Yesterday we had a snow storm move in about mid-night.

Snow  It left some pretty nice wet snow, which was gone by noon.

Work

The cows came out to eat after the snow left and the air warmed up.  They were still eating around ten at night so I figured we might be having more stormy weather today.

Leaving-1

There was nothing happening before light, but I saw the cows heading back into the corn field…appearing as ghostly shadows until it lighted up enough you could see them

Leaving-2

Now this morning (as I write this) big fat lazy snowflakes are drifting down out of the heavens, taking their time leaving the clouds and softly landing on the earth.  It’s cold, but it as to be cold to have snow.

I always watch the cows, they know…trying to fill up before they have to hunker down and wait a storm out.

I worked at the animal shelter yesterday.  Some of the things people do to animals just amazes me…and I really would like to choke out the people……….GRRRRRRRRRRRr

Four dogs were brought in from a Real Estate woman, who had gone to a foreclosed house to make sure everything would be ready for a showing that afternoon…inside she found the foreclosed on families three bird type dogs (I think Brittany Spaniels)  and the little tiny bit of fluff poodle.  They had been left in the house by the family in the hopes that the animals would leave huge messes for someone to find.  Of course there was no food or water (all the water and electricity had been turned off…this was a foreclosure).

The dogs were just stunned and hungry and extremely thirsty.  One of the bird dogs got adopted yesterday, which was good.  But the others have to wait.

The things people do to animals, just makes me sick.

These people are known and will be prosecuted for animal cruelty, which will take time, but it is something.  In the meantime I hope just the right families will come looking for wonderful sweet animals that need love.  The shelter has lots to chose from.

  1. That is so wrong! Pets are a lifetime commitment. If you are not going to treat them right don’t get them in the first place. Grrrrrr. You are so much braver than I. I would be heartsick every time I went there and would bring home every dog in the place. Which I can’t afford. So I send blankets and money to our local no-kill shelter. Nessa approves.

  2. I love animals more when they belong to other people, but animal shelters always make me want to grab a big patch of desert and open a giant shelter ala “Dog Town.” I’m glad those little doggies are getting new, better homes.

  3. The kitty in your header sure looks like it is headed somewhere with a purpose!! Cute. Your sky and snow pictures are really pretty. Yes, cows seem to know weather changes better than NWS!!
That said, it is now snowing here pretty steadily..hurray!!

Sweet of you to volunteer at the animal shelter…it can be so sad and aggravating what people do to their pets..or don’t do for them. Just heartbreaking! Hope all of them get homes soon.

    Blessings!

  4. Oh they WILL get adopted out and bless you for going to the shelter and loving on these poor babies. Imagine what they are feeling, being left behind and the little one being there with three big dogs that would if needed kill her. They need to throw the BOOK at those people, if they couldn’t keep the dogs then they should have simply brought them to the shelter. IDIOTS! (actually worse but I can’t say those words) That is why I can’t work at the shelter, I can foster dogs but I can’t deal on a daily basis with STUPID PEOPLE!

  5. What a pity these people didn’t just take their unwanted pets to a shelter rather than just abandon them. But from what you say they wanted to leave the dogs to make a mess of the house. They couldn’t have cared much for the dogs in the first place so maybe they could be banned from keeping animals altogether. Just as well there are people like you to help rehabilitate these poor dogs.

  6. How brainless can people be? Are they going to claim they didn’t know the animals were there? I hope they get fined enough money to set them back far enough they find out what it’s like to have no food. I also hope their names are published in their local paper.

  7. I do hope they find these people and make an example of them. I guess anyone who has a home foreclosed and tries to get revenge isn’t the highest calibre person.

  8. anyone who abandons animals with no food or water should be treated as such themselves. so sad.

i loved your skies in these photos, though.

  9. LInda, I can imagine how your heart is wrung, coping with such sadness. You are so wonderful to do it, and how much your love must be appreciated. We’ve had seventeen dogs – three at a time – mostly unwanted, one left to starve etc etc., and like Boomer and Fuzzy, they know when they;re rescued and love you to bits …Look after yourself as well as looking after the dogs….
How fascinating about the cows, and their knowledge of the weather…. better than a weatherman or a weather vane !!!!

  10. What is wrong with people? Sometimes you do just about want to give up and then you remember that there are also people like you! And beautiful blue skies! And hope. That’s wonderful volunteer work you do Linda… And I hope some other angels come forward as adoptive parents for the other dogs.

  11. and others dump their beloved pets well I often wonder if they ever were, out on the roads to fend for themselves. I have a neighbor who gets all her dogs from the ASPCA and she beats them all till they listen to her 😦 I have never had to do anything but give love for all of my babies to do what I ask 🙂 I must be a whisperer 🙂 Thanks for doing all you can to show them love.
