When the Wind Tears the Earth to Shreds —- Wednesday, May 26, 2021

The is an UpSide to the wind—Sorta

It helps the sap rise up out of the roots of the trees, so the leaves can gather light and we can have shade

It can bring in a storm…it can, not always, but it could

But the biggest thing it does (on human terms)

is it keeps the bugs

At bay. 🙂

There Lingering in the Sky — Sunday, November 15, 2020

We ride out daily now…

Checking the cows

Keeping count,

Making sure the cows are comfortable with us

Checking fences (and gates)

Overhead the Canada Geese keep us company

We have a NEW little one—very early.   But, for some reason or other, there always seems to be one cow who springs a surprise.

Last night I saw a Sundog…colder weather on its way.

A Few Magic Storms Arrived — Wednesday, July 15, 2020

If I could choose one single moment to live inside for all eternity, it would be that.  Fredrik Backman, Things My Son Needs to Know about the World

Monday we had storms, off and on all-day

Off and on the rain would blow in, falling in heavy coin-sized drops, then moving on; the ground staying mostly dry.

Our busy days of work continued

Completing one chore

After another

Then the skies would clear and I would think…”I guess that is the end of the storms.”

Back again they would blow in.

But the ending…OH MY, THE ENDING of the DAY!

Was STUNNING!

Complete with the most unusual and delightful Rainbow!

Which grew darker and more red as the night crept onto the land!

WOW!  I kept saying to myself. WOW!  This is an amazing gift from the Heavens!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Wisp of a Tiny Story —- Thursday, July 18, 2019

Somewhere up there in that vast wonderous sky

Must live Angels

Or possibly demons—(Maybe the demons live on earth, or under the earth somewhere)

Maybe it isn’t Angels, for they are very busy running prayers to the proper Diety to answer them.

And we all know there are masses and masses of prayers heading to Heaven every moment of every day and night.

Maybe it is, hmmm

A wonderous being who is in charge of Clouds

Yes, that is it!

A couple, Man and Woman, who look after the silver-edged clouds

Tugging them here and there

Creating shadows on the earth

Which race across the land

Or leave the sky blank so the clouds are only memories

But when the couple, who are in charge of clouds, decide

To fill the sky with that fragile mist

And the Sun God allows the rays of his beautiful sun to be captured in the clouds

The world is bathed in colors so wild and marvelous it is a wonder to behold.

The Sun, That Sky—Makes Me Sing Hallelujah — Tuesday, July 2, 2019

The sky has been just wonderful the last few days

The colors swirling and dancing as the sun rises and sets

Storms building up on a daily basis

Bringing thunder, lightning, and raindrops

Then the wind shifts the clouds moving them into swirls of patterns

So the light breaks through them and seems to actually shimmer

Sometimes cooling us down to a feeling like Fall is soon to happen.

Still the sky, the sun, the moon, the wind

All murmur in huge [brilliant] voices

Come outside and be with me

Let me fill your mind, and soul and all the shades of your heart

For the Time is swiftly passing.

From my heart to your world,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Out and About with Mom and Mindy (sometimes)

Mom and I

and sometimes Mindy, took walks in the rain, in the wind, at night, and in the storm we had.

But this morning we took a walk in SUNSHINE!

Anyway, here are some of the things we saw

These tiny birds are back…YAY!  Mom and I love to see them and watch them…they watch us, by freezing very still, not moving at all.

If Mom talks to them, they get very nervous but don’t move.

Last night, after the storm left, Mom and I went for a short walk to the old tree, which is no longer there, because the ditch company sprayed and killed it….and Mom saw a helicopter coming our way.

She took a picture (Mom always has her camera with her) just to see if the helicopter would show up.  Only the lights on the helicopter showed up.  Still kinda cool.

Our storms were mild compared to other places so the renter is back on the land this morning.

The sun setting through the storm last night was rather cool.

Mom and I checked the apricot blooms…yep, froze.  There might be a few that make it, but nothing like there could have been.

The canal water came yesterday!

Mom and Dad and I all thought YAY!

Dad says today we make ditches!

Oh!  I hear a big truck!  I know that motor!

Gotta go!

See ya,

Boomer

A Song of Storms and Wind—-Sunday, February, 17, 2019

Friday night a storm started blowing in

The moon once clear, but with a halo, became fuzzy with clouds

By morning we were in a series of storms

The clouds grey and vaporous, dark and wraithlike

The wind pushing them along in a haunting song of winter’s lullaby

The wind was so sharp and cold it could peel your skin

All around the storm’s outriders turned the world to grey and then white

The wind howled and the rain fell flat and stinging

But by evening the lashing storm had spent itself, moving onward to other parts of the land

The clouds turned to gold and the air filled with sunshine.

Although, we are cold today…the day is beautiful; singing a much different song then yesterday!

There in the Sky Simple and Definite—-Thursday, September 20, 2018

We had thick heavy clouds all day yesterday, threatening rain, but none fell right here

Then as the sun was starting to set the whole sky lite up in a lighthearted affair…the sun striking the clouds in a golden shower of color.

The slanting rays sending out streaks of light blazing the underneath of the heavy hanging clouds with a brilliant glow of gold, and orange, and pink, and purple…

The color echoing throughout the sky and on the land, making plants, soil, buildings, even Terry and Boomer, Mindy, and I thick with the beautiful light

Then there in the southern sky was a blazing sign glittering and trembling in the liquid gold of air.

A crescendo ending to a grey and storm filled day!

From my heart to your world,

The Farm is Our Heart—-Monday, March, 26, 2018

Thankfully we got all the wood cut and piled.  Our youngest daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren came and helped us finished up the wood.  We are set now for at least a couple of years, depending on the weather.

The signs of spring are here, they are in the air, on the earth, in the fading sun or the rising sun, in the lighting shadows and the lengthening day.

I still feed the Red-Winged Blackbirds, although I’m seeing more and more Song birds in the yard and on the farm

I love their songs and strive to keep them here, as long as they will stay.  But as soon as the Upper End and the Back Forty green up…they will be gone to sing and mate in that special wonderland they call home.

Then once they are gone—the hummingbirds come so my little bird kitchen stays steady with the joy of winged-friends.

Everyday now is a call to the land, where work is not drudgery, but jubilation—we are adding to the chorus called Spring.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Unbelievingly Beautiful Vista of Sunday’s Storms—Monday, May 8, 2017

Sunday was a day full of wind, threats of rain and stunning beautiful storms

The mountain ranges surrounding us filled with dark and threatening clouds, dumping either snow or rain, creating an endless series of drama

Even on the sawtooth mountain range of the San Juans…the snow-clad peaks etched needle-sharp against the sky received their share of the storms

Silent forks of dazzling light split the sky on the Uncompahgre Plateau and across the desert between Delta and Grand Junction.

Dull rumbles of thunder boomed in the canyons and hollows of the deserts beyond our farm. Sheet lightening shimmered far, far away threatening to come closer and closer to us.

Although the sky was a stunning crystal blue between the storms; the lightening would light up the plateau like an X Ray.

The air was filled with particles of dirt when the mighty gusts of wind pushed through

The storms raced here and there; composed of energy, and full of sounds echoing through out the sky and the earth

It was actually very beautiful.

We changed the water in both of the corn fields in the rippling, storm-filled spring skies…all of us driven here and there by the wind…shifting to hold ourselves upright and still set and move water.

It was exhilarating, to say the least.

From my world to your heart,

Linda
