July 2, 2013

We hit 100* again yesterday…I looked at the long-rang forecast -the next 10 days shows no relief in site.

Heat-ride

Please send your thoughts and prayers to all of the grieving families who lost a firefighter in that horrible fire in Arizona…my heart goes out to everyone.

This morning we woke to scattered clouds…which means that the morning starts out a little cooler.

Up-you-go

Blade is trying to learn to ride Terry’s unicycle (Terry is multi-talented)…he was suitably astonished at how very difficult it is to balance yourself and GO FORWARD.  That is Kelly, Blade’s Daddy, helping Blade.

Another-snack

I still have the 6 hummers (three pair) at my feeders.  I had wondered if I would get more, but the territories seem to be set now.

Use-this-snack

The Orioles have their own feeders (now) so they are not interested in the hummer feeders.  Use-this-snackI haven’t been able to get anymore photos of them as they seem to be shyer than the hummers.

Almost-rainbow

Once more we had almost a rainbow as the storms played out in the heavens, nothing dropping to the earth since the air is so hot.

Have a good Tuesday everyone, I must get back outside before the heat sucks my energy flat!

Hugs,

Linda

  1. Sounds early mornings are the best time of the day for you, outside anyway. We are still getting the rain that you need so much but not getting the hay harvested. It’s dead ripe and I fear the nutrition value is decreasing with every day. We both will get through!!

  2. We’re leaving our hot and dry for Paonia, due to arrive on July 20. Our monsoon is trying to get started, but only wind and more dust so far. Not good for our already tragic fire season. Both of our states suffer from forest neglect and those men paid the ultimate price. So hard.
Can’t wait for the “cooler” Colorado summer!!! Take care!

  3. Wish we could send you some of our rain and cooler temps. It was only in the 70’s here yesterday and we got 2.5 inches of rain.

I have 3 hummer feeders out –but seldom see any… Don’t know where they are this year.

Stay COOL and have a good day.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Corn is looking good!
Photos of Terry riding the unicycle, PLEASE! I’ve always wanted to try. I can’t remember how old I was when I saw one the first time, but I was tiny.
Stay cool. I’m off to see if hay is dry enough to swath. Baling will start tomorrow, I think.

  5. Prayers said for the loss that is felt across not only AZ but the whole country 😦

We will be in the 90’s with sticky heat and humidity they say for a week or better It is down pouring as I type and has been all week with tornadoes, and huge thunder storms and road loss just crazy these strange weather patterns not nice to mess with Mother Nature and now it seems we pay 😦

  6. Yes Linda, I agree those terrible fires, those grieving families, those folk who have lost their homes – they all need our thoughts and prayers. I find it difficult to imagine the kind of heat
you are experiencing. We came to Denver in May once and it was very hot then – we went on
the Amtrak to Salt Lake City and then through the mountains ending up in Phoenix, where it
was absolutely scorching hot – even as early in the year as that.

  7. Stay cool Linda and have a great holiday with your family!!! I finally heard our hummer buzz by the other night but haven’t seen him feeding. Your last shot is absolutely lovely!

  8. We are in the century mark too, but scattered clouds mean that we have humidity, which we are definitely not used to. It seems to add 20 degrees to the discomfort level

  11. I hope you get rain before 10 days. Tragic what happened to the firefighters. Now I have enough trouble standing on two feet on the floor to keep my balance. I admire this guy.

  12. Learning to ride a unicycle is a good summer project. So sad to hear of the loss of the firefighters. They work so hard, under extreme conditions. God bless their families.
