Our stupefying heat has broken! Yesterday a big storm blew in, crashed around and blew out–no real rain. But right behind it was cool air! Enough cool air to feel like an early fall day! It isn’t, but it is a nice.
This little Swallow was a little puffed up this morning waiting for the sun to break through the clouds.
We have been seeing lots of the Gambel’s Quail in the hollows and valley’s along the hillsides of the farm. This one was trying to keep us from the nest!
Boomer and I saw Ruth the Wise Owl…she was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over there, that’s why the photo is so blurry. Boomer bayed at her. She did not respond.
Then there is this lovely (does anyone know what type of bird this is?) I have several living in the old cotton wood tree in the yard.
Terry and I are just about caught back up…only hay to haul and wood chips to scatter on in my yard. Sure is a good feeling. The ditch rider cut the water back, we will have to change water more now and not be able to set as many rows. It can all be done, it just takes time.
I hope each and everyone of you are having a perfect summer day.
Your friend on a Western Colorado Farm,
Linda
The bird looks like our mockingbird but I’ve also seen it on the National Audubon site but can’t remember the name.

I wonder if it is a mockingbird. It sure is pretty.

How about this guy? I don’t know my western birds all that well, but it is some kind of flycatcher. If you want a positive id, Facebook Bird ID Group of the World will help.

So nice to catch up on projects I bet but then YOUR projects are always going I think. Glad it cooled off – we are looking at record setting heat this weekend – YUCK! Stay cool and hope you get rain – IF the hay isn’t down that is.

Beautiful sky and birds! She looks like a Western Kingbird with that head and beak – check for wing bars if you see her again 🙂 If no wing bars, she sure looks like a Western Kingbird – especially if she has narrow white edging on both sides of the tail. If she has wingbars, perhaps a female Scott’s Oriole… perhaps?

I’m glad your heat has broken. We’re supposed to get some relief on Saturday. I very much enjoyed your bird photos. I’m happy to hear that the two of you are getting caught up on the work that needs to be done.

Perfect summer’s day Linda? I wish. Here is cloudy and dull and really rather cold. Next week hot humid weather is forecast. We shall see.

No not really, but nice. Although a big thunderstorm is building right now. I hope it isn’t full of hail.

Owls are tough, B. Be careful it doesn’t swoop down and take you for a ride. *gulp*

Oh, there’s nothing like a cool change to make everything seem better suddenly. But I don’t think our notion of cool is quite the same as yours! Our coldest night so far this winter has been 48F…

It cooled off to 86 f sure was pleasant after 111*

I bet! But I’m glad to think you don’t suffer the same humidity where you are that we do, being in the tropics and on the coast. That would make 111F totally unbearable.

It’s pretty bad here when the storms build up. We are so NOT use to humidity …I don’t know how you do it.

I love the little quail. We have Bobwhite quail here. I’ve mastered their call and can often get them to come closer so I can see them. They are terribly skittish! I’m thrilled that you were able to get a photo of yours!
