Dad, Mom and I are so excited! The Sandhill Cranes have found our farm!
They sure are skittery birds….Mom and I have to SNEAK up on them, which means I can’t go running at break neck speed right into them or
- Mom yells at me
- Dad Yells at me
- The Birds FLY away
So I have to walk very carefully BY Mom so Mom can get photos of them.
They sing a cool trilling sound…I sit out by the granary and listen and watch. I got yelled at once by Mom, then once by Dad. That was enough for me!
So I watch them and Mom watches them…Dad says he just enjoys their songs.
P.S. If you would like to hear how they sound go here! Click on all the sound links so you can get a good idea!
Bummer about the “rules,” B. Those big guys look like they’d be fun to chase….
Love and licks,
Cupcake

Boomer, you are an angel being quiet so that those cranes stay around. How lucky you are to have such beautiful birds so close. Wish we had them here in this country.

You guys are so lucky! I’ve seen a few Sandhills in several different States, but never seen that many on the ground. Yay! I’m glad you learned to sneak up so quietly Boomer. Good for you.

Do they sleep in your fields at night or do they fly off somewhere?

They stay there 24-7— what they eat I don’t know.

We love the sandhills here in Wisconsin too, Boomer….but they never stay around during our winters….when spring comes we will see them flying back here and staying until Fall! And we love the sound they make too. When we first moved to our house in the country 11 years ago, I couldn’t figure out what was making that sound! Be good Boomer! :o)

lot better than my recent pixures, which, as you remember, probably were west and a few miles away from your house. their distinctive high-sky croaking always gets me craning my head back to look ~
