For some reason sleep seems to elude me.
Night can be so long. Sigh.
Sometimes I fancy I can feel the touch, of that feathered wing, of the Dark Angel flitting around searching for those ‘whose time has come.’
When that happens I get up and read or Boomer and I take a midnight walk.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to be a little child again…you know that time when you would feel all fretful and fussy inside, unable to relax. Then along would come Momma–holding our little child’s body against the warmth of her body. My Momma would hum as she held me; until rest came.
Terry and I have decided we need to move more…get outside…Do Something.
At different points in the day I put put on my large, large coat…it’s so big it swallows me whole, but I like it for hauling wood–it allows me to move around easily. I, also, don’t care it it gets torn.
Terry, Boomer and I take a walk.
We walk to different parts of the farm, make mental lists of the things we want to get done “come Spring” and then head back home. Feeling refreshed and glad of the momentum in the fresh air.
Then maybe…..just maybe…my mind will GO TO SLEEP at night!!!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
I understand the feeling Linda , there are many nights when I lay awake worrying about things I cannot change. A walk always help.

A walk does help. And those chasing around thoughts always seem to be not so horrible when daylight comes.

Yup, same, maybe two hours again last night… The rain drumming hard on the metal roof isn’t helping, of course, but if I were able to relax it’d lull me to sleep instead of bothering me! Nothing too fresh about the air outside either, it’s still 78F and 90% humidity!

Too much heat is miserable. Well, too much of anything is miserable. Maybe tonight will be a better night—for both of us!

Fingers crossed :-). As I always say to the Husband when we tell each other good night: Sleep well, sweet dreams and have a good rest.

I’ve started listening to either books on tape or podcasts at night when I can’t sleep. Stays dark, droning voice usually puts me back to sleep and if not, at least someone else is doing the thinking and I’m either learning something or being entertained :-).

To shut off the mind is a mighty good thing at night!!! Sigh!

Dear Linda…won’t say more than this: I have exactly the same problem. Sleep comes rarely in its peaceful form. And those witching hours are hard…breathe deep, I always tell myself. And sometimes I think of the ocean.

I’ve been getting up and reading, or playing with color finding beautiful color of pinterest anything to to get my mind to focus on something.

Can’t help noticing that you are walking in flip flops. I haven’t done that since I was very young. I don’t wear old ladies’ shoes yet, but can’t walk far in flip flops.

I need to re-learn how to walk in tennis shoes. I’m rather addicted to crocs!

I hope you and yours had a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and are looking forward to a very HAPPY NEW YEAR. May we display your header on our new site directory? As it is now, the site title (linked back to its home page) is listed, and we think displaying the header will attract more attention. In any event, we hope you will come by and see what is going on at SiteHoundSniffs.com.

I tried to find your site, but I can’t find it.

I kinda panicked when you said that you could not find SiteHoundSniffs.com. For this is my first experience with a regular website, and I am still kinda paranoid about SEO tricksters making it harder for it show up at the top of a Google search. Anyway, it does indeed show up at the top of a Google search for SiteHoundSniffs (with or without the .com). The full address is http://sitehoundsniffs.com . I sure hope you find it and like the free service we are trying to provide.

Wonderful! So, may we display your header, which will certainly stand out over just having the text-links? You don’t have to do a thing but give permission.

Smiling at the crocs as well. Do you wear them in the snow too? A walk in the moonlight is great especially with a friend like Boomer to point out the tracks and scents. Stay warm and stay away from that Dark Angel.

I wear flip-flops year round, but sometimes I have to go to closed toe crocks and then on to crock winter boots. But if I can wear flip-flops that’s my choice above all others! 🙂

Oh Linda, so sorry to hear you’re having trouble sleeping at night. That happens to me sometimes and then I lay there wondering if I should get up for awhile or not. You’re lucky that you can get out and hoof it a little. Here it is all ice and snow outside and with all my joint replacements, it would not be a good idea to go out for a walk. I am surprised that you don’t have a lot of snow at your place. Do you not usually get much snow? Anyway, what a good idea for you all to get out and walk a bit. I’m jealous.

We get snow…sometimes lots of it. Enough you could snowmachine on the farm. But this year, for some reason, it’s staying in the mountains and hills and around us, but not here. Which works for me.

Chronic insomnia here too, 3 am and after that it’s just doze, wake, doze, wake and finally wake up tired. Finally gave in to my doc’s suggestion of a sleeping pill two or three times a week. Don’t like the idea but getting a couple, three night’s decent sleep makes a big difference. Still wake at 3 but actually sleep again thereafter! I’ve even noticed I don’t really need it that often as after one night of a pill I get a couple of pretty good nights without.

So…what is bothering you? What is on your mind? I fall asleep readily when I am stressed…so I cannot identify….but it must be awful. I am a night person…maybe that is the difference. Think good thoughts just before going to sleep:)

I want to move more too but never in flip flops. If my feet are cold, so am I. I want to do more walking and will have to find a way soon. Right now I’m moving plenty with the packing. Who took the photo of the two of you walking?

We have night cameras up. I love trying to capture the wildlife on the farm…sometimes the camera catches us! 🙂

You are walking around in shorts and flip flops this time of year? That absolutely astounds me — It’s a lovely benefit that you can walk outside at midnight on your own beautiful and safe place (as long as detective boomer is keeping it safe for you). Still I’d probably fall in a gopher hole or something. …. I have nights when sleep eludes, but as long as it doesn’t happen more than a couple nights in a row I can handle it….. (of course I am retired and not working and it doesn’t really matter to anyone if I’m not at my level best).

I wear shorts and flip flops year round…I only resort to long pants and socks and shoes if I’m forced into it!

Wow! Now, I dislike working in the heat, but I don’t think I could do shorts in your winters! I’m usually barefoot at home.

Today I had to resort to jeans…snow over my boot tops in places.

I have those nights, where I wake what seems like every 30 minutes because my brain won’t stop.
Glad walking helps you. You remind me of our youngest son. Shorts and flip flops. We are more like Terry. Bundled a little more warmly this time of year.
I hope you all have a blessed year.

I’ve been waking up at 4, 5am, but I read on my iPad and it puts me back to sleep quickly. Unless the book is really good!

Isn’t it irritating when the mind is busy at night! It does this to me when I’m busy at work .. probably why I have lived these holidays. Work Monday 😉
