After much checking and checking and more checking Terry has decided that the corn is now made
All the signs are there
The husks are turning golden
The silks no longer bright and shiny
When the animals try to bite into them the kernels are hard
We made it!
The growing season is done.
Although, we are NOT over yet….
The pinto beans are drying…big fluffy plants
The new fall field is soaking up the water..
The alfalfa is really growing, but it won’t be cut again.Β Four cuttings deplete the plant going into winter. (For us anyway)
Slowly, slowly, the summer is dwindling down…sinking into that hugely busy time called harvest!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

Soon the harvest? here they wait until the whole field is a rustling brown. I find it interesting how different regions grow the same plant differently – due to climate I suppose. So now you can turn off the water?

Our corn will dry down now. It will take at least two months maybe more…we have to wait until the moisture content in the kernel is less than 15% It takes a long time…but the waiting for the dry has now come!

It’s always interesting and I always learn something here. Was fascinated by the picture of the beans drying in the field.

We got rained on…the rain was lovely, but not good for drying crops. Oh, well…on to another day.
