The pastures are looking very nice this year.
Terry is creating new ones and refurbishing old ones
Yesterday, he planted a mix of grass and alfalfa seed in a whole new area
And covered a huge scar up at the Upper End with more rich grass seed.
Spring is holding steady full of the sound of humming bees and the smell of rich green lushness.
Terry is saying often now…how much he is enjoying putting into reality some of the dreams and plans he has had for the ‘rest of the farm’. 🙂

So, not so much retirement as doing the same stuff but a bit more slowly… That grass is looking really good!

A lot more slowly, so very doable.

He looks happy playing in the fields. Glad the weather is cooperating. It’s so beautiful I’d want to take off my shoes and run barefoot.

As long as I am alive, I will never stop missing the orchards of the Santa Clara Valley. Also, I will never stop missing the vast pastures of surrounding regions. I don’t know what happened to them all. A few are still there, but they are not vast like they used to be. Town grew up, and surrounding areas became vineyards for those who want to brag about their own wine labels.

That happened to me where I grew up…all the orchards and pastures have gone to subdivisions. It sure is sad.

My great grandmother, who had more to complain about than I do in this regard, had a much more positive attitude about it. She thought that it was so nice that a million other people get to enjoy living in the Santa Clara Valley where she had enjoyed living for so long. None of those people can enjoy it like I did (because that way of life is ruined), but at least they can enjoy it in their own way. There are more than a million of them, and only one of me. I just wish I could go home.

She remembered when San Jose and Denver were what would be considered average sized town by modern standards. She can remember much of San Francisco being destroyed by fire in 1906, and getting rebuilt.
