Chapter Eight
The deer quickly outran me! I puffed and panted along getting further and further behind.
Finally, I just sat down; if I am going to be coyote food then I might as well get it over with. My elder weight, my old-aged bones, and my lack of speed made me a prime target.
I sat there panting and puffing. Hoping and against hope, but without much hope, I could somehow get away from being dinner.
Puff, pant, pant, pant.
HUH!?!?!
What is that?
I sat up quickly from the prone position I had gradually assumed as I rested and panted.
A ball of dust was coming down the long, long, long farm road heading toward ME!
I raised myself to my up-right-ready to run position when—-KIT! Bounced into view!
KIT!
“YAY! KIT!” I barked, whimpered, and whined!
Kit screeched to a halt sliding up to me in a huge whirlwind of dirt.
“Whew! I finally caught up with you, Boomer! Goodness, you were moving so fast you looked like a blur.
Me? I pondered. Gosh, I guess I thought to myself. Maybe I moved faster than I thought I did.
“Hi, Kit! I was running fast because the coyotes were in the area and I didn’t want to become coyote food.”
“Oh! I was running to catch up with you because the coyotes ran on over the hill and I wanted to see what you were up too.”
“The coyotes are gone? Yipppee! Let’s go see what’s out on the farm.”
Now THAT is a very good thing, I said to myself.
I put my paw up. Kit put his paw up, we High-Fived each other and barked out laugher!
Off into the night
for a nice adventure.
We wonder why the coyotes ran away. Maybe they heard about the scary Beagle who ruled the farm.
