On the Way to the City

road-to-grand-junction

We travel through a really neat prairie, full of interesting dunes and canyons.  I love the play of shadows across the land.

wild-horse-mesa

As a child I was always fascinated by this huge plateau called Wild Horse Mesa.  Even today I love driving by it.  There are NO wild horses!  Besides it doesn’t look like it could support life.

Then after all of that lonesome beauty we enter…..TRAFFIC!

I Deleted by Accident My Award

uberaward1

I didn’t mean to delete my award!  Shoot!  I was trying to figure out how to fix it; therefore I lost everything I had printed on the post.

Boy am I sorry!

Last Year’s Leaves

leaves

The storm hit our area yesterday, bringing a strong wind with sleet and rain.  Our trees were still hanging onto thier summer leaves, but today, the leaves are all on the ground.

Although this looks like lots of bugs, it is really leaves being pushed off the trees.

Happy Halloween

Work begins at dawn.  There are animals to feed, water to fill, wood to haul, stuff to get done BEFORE getting ready for the town job.

This is dawn (daylight savings time, October 31, 2008), right out our backdoor, just as we are heading out to do morning chores.

HALLOWEEN Came Early

Last night a cute group of goblins came to our house……

Weaning the Calves

I suppose this really isn’t that same as sending your babies off to school for the first time, but it does strike a cord in a mom’s heart.

The kids (calves) were so scared they were trembling.  But hard as it is, it must be done.  Cows are terrible about never weaning their babies.  I have seen calves as old as a year old still nursing, another younger calf nursing on the same mother and the mom pregnant with another calf.  Weaning the baby just doesn’t seem to happen in cow world.

Cows are the true “earth mother”, and hard as it is, babies do need to grow up.

In the strain of trying to follow the babies this cow broke the top fence by trying to jump over it-Bad Cow!

Farm Sales

One thing about farm sales it is a great place to socialize, even if you don’t buy.  Of course if you do buy then it is a great place to find something cool.

The sad thing about farm sales, it also means someone is leaving, being bought out, died, or a subdivision pushed them out.
