Baby It’s Cold Outside

It’s terribly cold here!  As you can see….wind chill is zero.  Not much snow and it’s a dry snow right here on the farm.

Although, we can see lots and lots of snow on the mountains surrounding us….which is wonderful!  The farmers in our area have been told that, unless we get lots of snow in the mountains there will be no water for the farmers next year.

Towns and cities come first, then however the call of the water happens in the rank of seniority.

Please pray and cross your fingers and your toes and whatever else that we get lots and lots of wet snow in the mountains.  Please also add in that this horrible drought, which has effected all the states in the mid-west and the west ends.  Food is a precious thing.

Yes, I am well aware that food will still come in from other countries, but local food is always best.

And Yes, I know that I am also saying, that with local food the local industry of farming stays solid and whole.  Another dust bowl is not something the United States needs or should ever want.

But I should not preach to choir, as all of you loyal readers know and understand the plight.

So I will get off my soap box and show you….

My 4 O’clock photo.  You can see the snow is starting to fall.  For two days we have had terrible bitter wind and sleet and rain.  Then the snow.

The 10-day forecast shows us warming up starting tomorrow.  This has been a brief taste of winter….the snow is most welcome.

Please enjoy your Sunday, and Thanks for visiting our blog.  I will try not to whine too much about winter as I KNOW WE NEED THE SNOW!

🙂  🙂 🙂

Linda

  1. Brrrr—looks SO cold there. We are fairly warm now–but a front is coming through tomorrow and will lower our temperatures… Today we have some high winds –which I’m glad to see (since there are some leaves still hanging onto the trees)… I hope all of the leaves will come down–so that we can rake/blow/mow the yard one more time before winter….

I will pray for lots of mountain snows for you all this year… We complain about Mother Nature–but we need her —and need those things to happen (like mountain snows) which help us in our lives….

    Have a great day, Linda.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. I will pray you get lots of snow! I know towns need water and all, but we also need food. I hope lots of moisture comes soon and you don’t even have to think about drought anymore.

  4. Brrrrr!!! Minus 10 Celsius! Shivering just looking at the gauge.
On the subject of support your local (country products), I couldn’t agree more.
Here all food in supermarkets etc. have to be labeled – there is a big drive now
to support Aussie products. All food has an international code, you will see the numbers
on the pack or tin. Find out the US code and only buy that product – you are supporting your
own farmers and they bloody well work hard to put that product on the shelf.
Here I only buy products that are marked “Product of Australia and Processed in Australia”.
The Australian code is 9 300 and 9 310 and then a heap of other numbers which must mean something.
Naturally some foods are not produced in your own country so then of course you buy either
Danish or Swiss or whatever the item is and comes from.
Yes, good blog Linda – full marks to you.

Hope you get plenty of snow in the surrounding mountains for a good 2013 water supply.
    Cheers
    Colin (Brisbane.Australia)

  5. Good that some things are going your way with the snow. But you’re not that cold…minus 8 or 9 on your Temp. Lots of snow in the Rockies here.

  6. I’m with you, Linda. I hate the snow BUT I’m praying for it. Our water comes down from the Mesa and it has smelled and tasted awful for the past couple of months. We finally had to get a filter for our faucet. They say that there is so little water up there that algae has taken over what little water is left in our source lake. I’m ready for this not to be a problem anymore! 🙂

  7. Yes Linda we did get snow – 1 foot local and more in the mountains. I now see a bit warmer and the cold and snow can pause for the next week or so as I have a trip coming up! LOL We have no control of the weather so we will see.

  8. Boy Oh Boy I hear you! All the way up here. Please send snow! But if you can, could you make it warm snow? Didn’t get above freezing here all day and there’s snow on the ground. Finally broke out the firewood and warmed up the house. Brrrrr! Stay warm down there if you can.

  9. I know CO needs snow and water as we were there in Oct. We need more rain here in IN to get back to normal too. The white regular American people have to get back on track and stop letting one person stop things such as the prayer in schools, Turkey Day, Happy Holiday instead of Merry Christmas and Christmas trees and songs in schools and trees in court houses and all this other crazy un-American stuff. We are now the minority, if not now soon. God has got to be welcome here soon or else!

  10. I so agree that we need lots of moisture this winter. Wells are going dry here in NW Texas. Gardens did poorly this last summer as one could hardly get enough water to them or in town the water was so expensive. The cotton harvest will be done soon, then bring it on!

It has been cold here since Saturday night. Temps only to 52 yesterday and was 15 when I got up this a.m. To be about the same tomorrow a.m.

Prayers for us all for good moisture! Blessings!

  11. We got a bit of snow here in Montana too. Only 2 inches where I am. And it was dry. But the mountains got more. We have been in the same shape as you—very, very dry. We are hoping for good snow pack in the mountains too. And some moisture in the ground before it freezes.
