We are having the oddest weather for January. Weather more along the line of July. An unusual warm air mass has funneled itself up from the Gulf of Mexico, giving us RAIN.
Friday we were rather warm with heavy fog, the weatherman was calling an inversion.
But we never cooled down to below zero, instead we stayed warm…22* all that day, into the night, and even into the next morning.
Visibility was very poor.
Then the weather people started telling us about the odd weather pattern we were now in.
Fog is beautiful.
We see very little fog here. As a child I was always fascinated that (for us, here in the high mountain desert) when we have fog it is really a cloud sitting down and surrounding us. Living in a cloud made me feel rather ethereal—light, airy, not earth-bound. It still does.
Then it started to rain…a very wet drizzle, you could walk in it for thirty minutes before getting soaked, but very steady. On and on it rained, all day, all evening, all night, until about 4 in the morning. Then it stopped. But the heavy fog didn’t leave.
Visibility, as I write this is 1/4 of mile. We are surrounded in cloud. It isn’t raining …. yet.
But it could start.
It might snow! The water guys are saying that it is snowing in the San Juan’s and up at Gunnison. That is good news. I hope it dumps FEET of very wet snow! 🙂
For FEET of snow I can enjoy living in a Cloud! 🙂 🙂
Linda

Fog make me very nervous. I will try to think of it as living in a cloud.

We had a strange misty fog last night, too. I thought the rain would wait until tonight to come, but it made its appearance early. Sending you ~~wet snow vibes~~!

I hope that weather system stalls over your mountains for most of the week. I just read another blog where long range forecasters are predicting a severe drought..so whatever moisture we get is good..enjoy the fog! I like to take photos when the sun starts to break through:)

Rain!! Oh how we loved the rain all day yesterday. But is is unseasonably warm – in the 40’s F around here. If it would just rain more often, predictably every week, maybe we could see this drought come to an end. Hoping you get the snow you long for.

Crazy weather for sure… BUT–I’m sure–since you need moisture, that you enjoy the rain as much as the snow. I love FOG too–but we have alot of it here.. Most of the time though, it is below us in the valley… Fog makes for some great photos, doesn’t it????
We are warming up –after our Ice Storm. Will have a few days of really warm weather and then it gets cold again on Thurs/Fri…..
Hugs,
Betsy

Fingers crossed for the Feet of Snow – better than Feet of Stone, eh?
Today was the first day in a week that was above 20F. Tomorrow it will snow again, and Wednesday will be 50…
Odd winter, all the way around.

-I keep wondering what sort of summer we’ll have after this very strange winter. We’ve had some sun, but it seems like more clouds and wind. Not very much really cold weather and some days that are really too warm for January. I’m thinking that the really cold stuff will wait until the first calves start to arrive in late march.
We are all so glad to hear that Fuzzy is feeling better. Gus and Pickles said to tell him HI. And Hi to Boomer too. Gus thinks the large number of geese you have is very interesting and he is anxious to meet a crane.

I would think that rain would be very welcome. Cloud and fog would help to stop evaporation which robs our soil of moisture. Snow cover also stops evaporation.

We too have had unusual weather. It rained like you described so we have a “pond” on the lawn. Then it gets so blasted cold so the pond turns into a ice skating pond. Then it snows a couple inches of light fluffy stuff over that which makes it so dangerous to walk on.
Yesterday it rained off and on all day so now its a water covered pond. Even more dangerous.
We are very thankful for the moisture. However it comes.

Fog, like extreme snowy conditions are best viewed from a stationary position, to enjoy the beauty. I hate to travel in either. I do hope you get the snow, since it will keep the drought conditions at bay.
