We had another winter storm come in, complete with wind and drifting snow…I guess I really should expect it since IT IS FEBRUARY!

Snow-1

Some of the farmers, around here, started plowing…now they have a mess.  Plowed up ground is like a huge sponge, then when it drys out (finally) it is just as hard and brittle as a dried out sponge.

Snow-2

Water is still an issue, although the snow pack should have grew some with the last several storms —- the last we heard snow pack was 77% of normal.  Still a ways to go to normal, but much improved.

Usually the water is turned on the last week of March, but not this year — they will turn it on the third week in April and then at only 50% of your allotment.  Of course, you still pay for the 100% you are entitled too.  Our water bill is higher than our taxes, go figure.

Goose

As I am writing this the sun is starting to break through the clouds, always a good feeling.

Yellow-Sky

I hope you enjoy your Sunday.

  1. Glad you are getting more moisture this year, Linda, but it doesn’t seem right to pay for 100% of your water allotment when you only receive 50%…. Goodness—farming just gets harder and harder, doesn’t it? And with our Govt. doing everything they can to penalize and punish farmers, that doesn’t help either. Grrrrrrr.

Beautiful sun.. We have a gorgeous, sunny day here in Tennessee. It started out cold –but will warm up nicely. Took a picture of a crocus in bloom yesterday here in the yard.

    Have a great day.
    Hugs,

  2. Sorry they are so stingy with your water! I understand it, but I know understanding it doesn’t make it any better for all you that farm! That last photo is just beautiful! Hope we get to see you in July….we might have to put the trip off till October. I bet it will already be snowing some by then!

  3. Happy Sunday Linda, WE were up at Estes this weekend and it started to snow heavily last night. We drove down the hill in some iffy weather and road conditions, but glad to be home-safe and warm.
    Stay warm and inside.

  4. That’s a lot of snow, but definitely worth to improve the water level. The billing and water allottment just always boggles my mind when you write about it…I would never have known about it without your blog. The sun is beautiful.

  5. I’m glad you got more snow. Hopefully that snowpack will get up to normal.
I can’t believe how awful it must be for the water to come later, at half the amount, and you still pay the same. It doesn’t make sense to me. I am already feel stress for you guys!

  6. Think we’re getting your snow tonight and tomorrow. In a blizzard warning area! Sure hope the mountains get more snow for the snowmelt. March 1st is when we have to start reporting how much water we use for irrigation and if we’ve used more than they think we should, we get fined!

Your last picture is so pretty! Love the goose and ducks, too.

    Blessings!

  7. Good that you re getting moisture no matter what form it’s in. At least they tell you ahead of time how much water you will get so that you can decide which crops to plant.

  8. Linda, What a lovely sunset…It has been snowing here all day and continues as I type. Spring feels such a long ways away for those of us here in New England…eventually spring will arrive, it never skips it’s turn. From snowy Maine, Julie.

  9. That’s a beautiful sunrise you captured. I was surprised to learn that you have to pay for all of your water allotment even if you only get half of it. That sounds like something our politicians would dream up.
