Nothing stops for very long. (Getting ready to cultivate)
There is always something to do. The work begins in that strange dawn light, called First Light. That time when the light just starts to swell and become real.
The work is solitary, but not lonely
There is always something (here he is going to knock down the dirt so the plants come push through)
Planting the last of our crops, the pinto beans. The type we plant is Bill Zee.
And always, always there is the water to change…morning, noon and night….and sometimes at mid-night.
I do NO tractor work, but Boomer and I always help with the irrigation.
Wind, rain, sun, and in the shredding of the night, called Dawn
or the slow leaving of the sun’ dominance of the day
We are there. Moving together as one.
From my world to your heart,
Linda
What a lovely post Linda – from the heart.

Blessings on your days! I hope you have a bumper crop this year!
I remember hearing stories from very western Kansas, where my sister and brother in law lived, about irrigation ditches, and getting the water started in those hoses. I’m sorry, I don’t remember the correct terminology! (spoken like a true PA farmer who knows nothing about irrigation!!)

We are very, very fortunate! We do have drought sometimes, but we are very thankful that we don’t have to irrigate. I’m sure that’s TONS of work!!

Its the steady part of the work. We used to milk cows, so we understand the work you do. Lots of it!

I’ve always thought driving a tractor would be so much fun, but I suppose there is a skill to it.

There is. Lots of levers and the feel of the land and the need to NOT destroy the plants.

I’ve always thought that First Light was so misty because it was filled with the soft grey Dust of Night, and it wasn’t till that had settled that the clear light began. Very bad physics, but a pretty idea!
We’re packing today, and starting for home first thing tomorrow after a meal with friends tonight. My own bed, in three days’ time!

OH! Wonderful you are on the way to painfree days!

I had an almost pain free night; I barricaded myself between pillows and slept on first one side and then the other, and left my spine unstressed all night. Magic! Wonderful that I can do that now without it hurting 🙂

First light is my favourite time ( it’s the promise of a new day – a fresh start eh ) and the pic of you with your husband carrying the spade is my favourite ( it communicates “teamwork” ).Thanks for posting.

It’s my favorite time of the day also. Although the gloaming comes in a very close second.

I don’t know who took your photos there in the fields together but it’s almost an ethereal union. You have a great team going there with Boomer to boot. 🙂
