Third cutting. We won’t do a 4th. We let everything grow tall and keep it wet so there is feed for the cows come winter.

I went out early in the morning to fork the ends of the just-cut hay into a baling row
When a skein of geese flew overhead. This is an old photo, but it looked like this. All loud and wonderful.

Lots and lots of summer birds are leaving our area, over 40, 000 in one night.
This is August. And the days are HOT. (103-105*) BUT —- HOPE is on the horizon.

Yep! It’s time.
Now that there are spears of green lush alflafa growing
The equines don’t want to eat anywhere else but in the alfalfa fields.
Time to move them off and move us on to the fields!

The corn is doing well—We have three fields of corn!
The second alfalfa field is just about ready to cut—maybe tomorrow. Forward we go! Another round of Hay and Hay customers. YAY!!!
This is the first cutting for two fields. We are going to have a busy summer with two fields of alfalfa!
Second cutting will be close to the Fourth of July!

LADYBUGS! Keeping the alfalfa free of pests!
Once the stems dry down the Lady Bugs fly away. They come back after the plant gets a few leaves back on it.
