Chapter Six Boo Berry Tells a Story, Friday, June 20, 2025

Time moves on, as they say, and for me, time did move on.  There was a ‘time’ when time was stuck.  From the moment I was moved away from Mom until I was sold to my really nice man owner—time didn’t move at all.

Oh, yes, there was day and night.  Breakfast and no food until breakfast again.  Visits from different male dogs —- I always hide when I see Male dogs now.  I hide and growl — then puppies.  But as for time—it just stayed stuck.

At the really nice man’s time, it did a weird sorta leap forward, then stuck right fast all over again.  Same ole same ole time.  Different pen, different male dogs, more puppies, until the day I got sick, sick, sick.

Time was still stuck, but I was so sick I didn’t notice.

It was after the sick, sick time, and Mom coming to get me to live with her, and Dad, and TLC, that time started moving again. On a very regular basis.

There was always something happening—I learned to climb the stairs and come down the stairs all by myself, I learned it’s okay to put my head up in the blue box of safety, I learned how to let Mom or Dad know I needed to go ‘outside NOW!,’ and I learned to like the CAT!

I still had stuff to learn: to not run off when Mom took me to irrigate, that it isn’t scary to ride in the car (I’m always afraid Mom is going to give me away so I hate car rides), it’s sorta, maybe kinda fun to go to town, and I will always until my dying day HATE THE VET trips!!!  Always!  Although Mom and Dad go with me, I get to sit on someone’s lap and look out the window, all safe and secure.  It is AT the Vet’s office I don’t like.

But we won’t talk about that—way too scary to talk about.

So, time moves on…there is a fireplace to toast my toes by in the winter, sun puddles to soak up the rays all the time, trees that have marvelous shade, and outside, smells!!!  Many wonderful smells—Sigh!  Peace.

Time moves on and time has taught me there is good things in this world and I’m part of them.

4. Chapter Four Boo Berry Tells a Story, Friday, June 6, 2025

OH!  MY! GOSH!

My new pen was HUGE!!!

I MEAN HUGE!!!

Mom showed me everything—here is the kitchen, Boo Berry. (Mom calls me Boo Berry.  I finally get to use the Berry part of my name 😊  ).

“This is where we eat, and you will eat here also.  TLC will eat up here because I don’t want you to eat TLC’s food.  He won’t eat your food, because he doesn’t like your kind of food.  [TLC is a particular cat}.

This is the room where your daybed will stay.  It can be your Safe place.  All day long.  If you get tired, you can sleep right here; if you get scared, you can run and lie right here.  This big soft bed is right by my chair.  So we will be together.”  Mom smiled big at me.

Then she showed me my BIG nice, soft bed in the bedroom.  This one is right by Mom on her side of the bed. TLC likes to sleep on the other side.

Sometimes TLC sleeps at the end of Dad’s feet.  Just say’n.

Me!  I always sleep with Mom.

We walked through the house….here is another bed if you want to try this one out, or here is a bed in case you want this one.  I got you LOTS of beds so you can pick whatever bed you really like.” She explained.

But the scary THING!  The scariest thing is UPSTAIRS!  Mom showed me upstairs.  She had to carry me upstairs, and then she had to carry me downstairs, where I hid my head in Mom’s arms.

That was when I first got here to the HUGE pen I share with Mom, Dad, and TLC.  Now I run up and down the stairs like they were a flat floor.  I like to come upstairs and lie in the sunshine in the morning.   Ah…..bliss!

Then we went outside.

I didn’t even have to have a harness on!

Just out the door we went.  First Mom carried me ,then I walked right with her.

But—-

OUTSIDE WAS TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BIG!!

I ran back to the door and stood there shaking.

“In?”  Mom asked.

“IN!!” I shivered and shook.

So In I went—-only going outside WITH MOM to do my duty, then running right back inside.  As fast as possible.

Mom had to tell me it was okay to do my duty outside, she says: “Go, Good Girl.  Picked up my leg {I still pee with one leg up}, and said—“It’s okay…Go, Good girl.”

I’m a fast learner.  That’s what Mom says.  😊

WHEW!

Learning the big pen took me a good two weeks, or more.

And in the meantime—-I had a vet visit.

No more puppies for me….ever!!

Chapter Three Boo Berry Tells a Story— Friday, May 30, 2025

Well, I figured out adulthood.  I became an adult—very soon after I was moved to that hidden pen.

Yep—babies became part of my life.

I loved those little sweet squirming babies.

But I didn’t get to have them for long. As soon as they hit their 8th week zipp, they were placed in a pen next to me.

I sang calming songs to them, like Momma did for us.

Soon, I repeated the whole process all over again, and again and again.

Then one day, the lady showed up with a man.  The woman said that I was for sale!

“FOR SALE!!!!”  She was getting rid of me!!!!

The man reached down and picked me up.  Held me close to his heart, and I felt Peace!

Wow!

I really like my new ‘owner.’  He was good to me, gave me a bath once a month, and let me exercise in the sun, which was a tiny distance from my new pen.

Of course, I still had my ADULT duties of having and raising puppies.

Then one day…actually, night,  the puppies and I almost ran over the rainbow bridge together.

It took me a long time to recover from all that.

After I got well, my man owner came into the pen.  He was wonderful, he talked to me and to everyone else in the pens all the time.  Telling us good things about ourselves, telling us things about each other. You know nice stuff.

Anyway, in he came.  Picked me up.  Gave me a kiss on the nose and said:  “Today is a big day for you, Boo.”  He called me Boo, even though my full name is Boo Berry Betty and the lady called me Betty.

“Today, you are going to take a bath, get all cleaned up, because today you are going to live with a family.  No more adulting for you.  Last time was just too much.  I’ve found a wonderful family who will love and keep you, and you can learn to be a farm dog.”

Farm dog?  What’s a farm dog, I thought.

Anyway, I had a bath, toenails clipped, and a nice brush.  I felt so good.  My owner always gave us really nice baths.

Then this lady showed up in the doorway.  I didn’t pay attention, because people were always coming and going — leaving with puppies.

My owner picked me up.  Handed me to MOM and gave Mom my papers (whatever those are), then walked with Mom and me to the car.

“Thank you, Alan, Mom said.  I promise she will have a wonderful life with us and get to do lots of fun things.  No more ‘work’ Boo Berry.”

With that, we drove to my new life!

Adventures with TLC and Boo Berry, Friday, May 9, 2025 Boo Berry Tells a Story

I came across Boo Berry just sitting in the sun, eyes closed, just sitting.

“What ya Doing, Boo?”

“Just sitting—letting the world go by.”

“Really!?!!  Nothing?  Why? There is so much to do and so many

Things to see.  Why just sitting there doing NOTHING!!!?” I expounded.  “NOTHING!”

“Well, ya.  See the sun is warm right here.  I’m sitting in this perfect sunspot, my fur is black and the air is cold so this is perfect.  Just, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, perfect”  Boo Berry closed her eyes and laid down.

I just stared at her.

“You always do nothing.”

“No, I don’t.  I have been writing a story….first I write in my my mind then I will put it on paper.”

“A story?”

“Yes, a story, and it’s a very good story.  Once I’m ready Mom will put on paper and then—-well, there it will be.”

“I think you are silly, Boo Berry, why sit around writing a story when there are things to doooooooooo!”  TLC scrammed off.

The Adventures of Boo Berry Betty and TLC Cai-Cai on Friday—-Getting Closer and Closer, Friday, April 11, 2025

Mom said we are getting closer and closer to starting the water on the farm

There are just a few things left to do—

Mark out all the fields—the alfalfa fields

The corn fields

and fix the gated pipe

Gated pipe always, always, always walks apart over the winter.

And make the ditches (and clean the ditches) Gosh, there’s lots left to do. But much closer.

Once those things are done—

Then, we go out to check/change the furrows twice daily (maybe more often).

Until it’s harvest time in the fall.

Boo Berry, Mom’s helper all the way

Good, you do that—-I’ll protect the farm!!!

Hurt my eyes, so I had to go into the house.

Then it started to rain—

It was hard working with Mom in the rain

Then the hard snow came. And Came. and Came.

And the temperatures dropped to 23* at night.

It gradually warmed up—-

But staying outside was HORRID!!!
