In the Sweet Light of Autumn — Sunday, October 19, 2025

Even those dastardly weeds look beautiful

And the flickering light upon the birdbath with the scattering of leaves–divine

Autumn is a promise of beauty in every angle, upon every vista, with that dread of solemn

Winter loaming just over there–just a wee bit closer, just on the rim waiting.

Not Time Yet, But—- Thursday, October 19, 2023

Seems like there is always a fence to repair

This one was at the Upper End by the drain ditch.

Fixed! Several spans of it. From the gate to that tree you see.

All repaired and ready for the cows when they come.

No, the cows won’t be here until after the corn is harvested.  Several more weeks yet.

What Are Friends For —- Wednesday, October 19, 2022

Shannon and her rehabilitated Mule, LaVerne.  LaVerne was treated extremely poorly throughout her life.  But Shannon has taught her people can be kind (it took a full year) and that Shannon IS kind.  Today she rides and packs and loves on Shannon.

Bruce (on T’Ata) and Lenard (on Glory Bee)

Took time out of their busy day to come over and ride horses with Shannon.

Once a horseman always a horseman.

Thanks, Guys, everyone seemed to have lots of fun!

From our world to your heart,

Linda

TLC Cai-Cai and I went out to check the drying down of the corn

Still spots of green…still drying down.

WHAT! WOW! I Made it FIRST! —- Monday, October 19, 2020

As you know I love to feed the little wild creatures

fun little snacks they would never ever get

unless someone goes to the grocery store and buys them.

Usually,

it goes down like this —Stanely or Stewart or someone

from the Vacuum Cleaner family shows up—Cute little furry rodents with darling little faces

Sometimes, but not always, the Quail get there and can snarf up the remaining bits leaving a clean plate for everyone else.

But yesterday, the little chipmunk made it up there before everyone else.  He/she stood and his/her mouth flew open as is to say: WOW!

It was a perfect treat for Chipmunk and a perfect treat for me!

We Left Early This Morning—-Thursday, October 19, 2017

Once more I will be gone, early, early, by the time you read this.

Yesterday afternoon Terry and l loaded up the trailer and the truck and headed up to Montrose to sell the metal we have gathering here and there on our farm.

I always find the HUGE equipment up there amazing.  There really isn’t anything they can’t pick up and place in some of their piles waiting to go to the recycle of metal places back east.

It’s all pretty cool to watch.

I’ve posted something like this before, this yard really doesn’t change..just the stuff we haul up there.

Also a neat service/business they have…we get rid of the metal, make a little money off it, they sell the metal and make a little more money.  Whoever buys the metal melts it all down and changes it back into something useable.

Pretty cool I think.

It’s Raining Here—-Monday, October 19, 2015

Rain-2It’s raining!  Lovely drops of rich moisture, turning the drying corn a golden color.

Rain-1When you go outside the air smells good.  It’s a different smell from spring and summer rain.

CloseYou can smell the drying corn as absorbs the moisture, the earth as the dust is settling and the rich odor of the leaves as they are pushed from the trees, landing with little pitter and patters on the grass, the sidewalk, against the house, on the roof of the buildings.

Rain!  We have been needing it.

As far as Terry and I know all the crops are now in…the hay is cut and stored, the pinto beans harvested, the ensilage/silage chopped and packed into the pits, and the onions are in the sorting sheds.  The sweet corn harvested ended on Labor Day.

The warm autumn days are starting to give way (now) to the cooler and wetter weather.  The forerunner to that four-letter word, which starts with s.  (Although, snow IS an important component for survival.)

Soon, very soon, the corn will dry to the perfect moisture content and we, along with many others, will begin the last harvest of the year….pick’n corn.

Until then…everyone is enjoying the rain.
