About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at https://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/ Your Friend on a Western Colorado Farm, Linda Brown

I Delight in Shadows —- Sunday, October 16, 2022

Sometimes, while I do chores around the place,

Or am fixing food

I marvel at the beauty of all the shadows coloring our world.

Shadows so wonderful and deep, and heavy

I am sure you will marvel at them as I do.

Shadows and light

Moving across our day and into the night

The shadows of Autumn are different than the other seasons.

Shadows with a sky so clearly blue it sometimes hurts one’s eyes, the shadows seem even darker and more defined.

Shadows—that’s what I’ve been thinking of and wanting to share with you.  Those wonderful deep dark shadows defining the ever-changing light.

The Adventures of TLC Cai-Cai and Boo Berry —SCATTER— Chapter 12, Friday, October 14, 2022

“I want in—Don’t you TLC Cai-Cai?”

“Yeah.”

“I want in now!”

“Well, I think you are going to have to wait.” TLC Cai-Cai replied with all the wisdom of a cat.

“Why?  Where is Mom? Where is Dad?”

“Let me look” TLC Cai-Cai responded.  “Inside. Dad is inside.”

“I WANT IN NOW———HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

“Oh, hush! Mom is out here somewhere.  Dad is inside.  He doesn’t listen when you cry.”

BAM!

“WOW! What was THAT?!” Mom asked as she came around the corner with her wheelbarrow.

Suddenly Dad was at the back door.

“WHAT was THAT?” We all asked Dad.

“It sounded like a gun!” Mom exclaimed.

“It was—Dove season has begun. And our new neighbors are sighting in their guns.” Dad explained.

BAM!

“Oh, geez, Get in the house quick, Fur Kids…. guns and little animals don’t mix AT ALL!”

Mom opened the door.

You know the rest of the story—run inside and SCATTER to our favorite places to hide!

P.S. This is the end of SCATTER.  Story Over.  TLC Cai-Cai 😊

In the Hum of the Night — Thursday, October 13, 2022

That lovely, lovely full

October moon —filling the earth with its own delightful

Heartbeat.

Causing a unsettling feeling, a yearning of sorts

Pressing down …putting its silver weight on our shoulders causing our souls to stop and listen.

A beautiful experience — hard to explain, but wonderful to have it happen.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Crush of Migration — Wednesday, October 12, 2022

Migrating is such a tiring bit of bird life.  This sweet little woodpecker is having a wee morning nap. (Click on the blue)

Later on in the day, I noticed this little bird, tail down, eyes closed.  At first, I thought it might be a hawk, but now I think it is just a tired bird resting.

You can click on the dashboard and see the amazing migration going on in your area.

Did you know that scientists have proven that birds can see

The Earth’s magnetic fields and this is how they migrate?!

Pretty neat, I do believe!

Grass Edged in Gold — Tuesday, October 11, 2022

As I stood watching the long grasses in the pasture (the Upper End)

The sun broke through the west’s low-lying clouds, lighting up a unique edge on a stem of grass!

Thank Heavens for cameras, otherwise, this beautiful experience would only be a memory.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Mom and I.

Although, I do like The cat!

And I do like being

WITH MOM WHEN I AM OUTSIDE!

I don’t like outside

If Mom is Inside and

I am outside.

If something HUGE

shows up

TLC Cai-Cai

And

Since dry dirt is a memory right now

I thought to myself—the rain has left us an amazing

Heartbeat of its own

Well, actually a bazillion heartbeats

A heartbeat of such beauty it surprises me into awe and wonder.

Okay—Here is This Creature Again —- Wednesday, September 5, 2022

Okay— remember this creature from the other day

And no one (including myself) can seem to figure out what it is?

Well, here it is again.  I wish I could get a good photo, one that could identify it.

Here is a pig caught in our yard.  I only saw it once.

Not this! This is a Badger!!

Ahummmmmmmmmm and we know this one.

SKUNK!!!

Here is the badger

But this?!  I can’t figure it out–although, I think this is different than the one at the top

This one is easy to recognize

Here is a porcupine

Just a huge puzzle.
