The Cottonwood trees are blooming soon to break forth into leaves!
AH! The Joy!

The alfalfa is growing rapidly now
The grass field is showing perfect clumps of grass
Soon!
Very soon Terry will mark these fields out (three alfalfa fields and one grass) and we start the water on them.
The only thing we are waiting on is for the canals to fill.
Then we begin; twice a day, every day for the rest of Spring, Summer, and middle of Fall, irrigation!
Soon! VERY SOON!

It’s that time of year when we haul dirt from the settling pond
One truckload at a time.
The wind was terrible in the afternoons
With little showers the first day
After 16 loads Terry said–“Done for now, we will get the rest later in the year.”
It wouldn’t have been too bad but for the wind.
Anyway,
Done for now.
We go home to hot baths, a light supper, and to stop for a spell.

(I don’t realize how old I am until I see my hands! Then I know 🙂 )
Getting closer and closer to marking out these two fields and starting water.
We always pre-irrigate before planting.
Terry lets the ground dry down to perfect moisture for sprouting the seed.
Once we get to that perfect moisture it will be time to plant. Usually around Mother’s Day.
Farming season is moving forward in a most satisfying way.

Terry has let one field sit for three years. A chance to rest.
Now he is opening that field all rich and fallow and perfect to plant in
A lovely warm ‘new’ piece of soil to grow many nice large plants
Our air has the smell of freshly turned soil. It’s a delightful smell.

Terry went out to check the plowed fields and guess what?!
It was time to roll them down.
Let this set a day or two, depending on what the soil tells him, and it will be time to level the fields.
Spring work. This are lots of steps in it.
But they are all happy steps!
