A Little of This-A Little of That—Monday, April, 13, 2015

faint-sundog.jpgAs we were finishing up the last set of the day yesterday evening, I saw a Sundog in the western sky.  It wasn’t as bright as Sundogs are in the frigid winter months, but it was still there just the same.  The old-timers say if you see a Sundog cold weather will arrive within three days.  Looking at the 10-day forecast for our area…Wednesday we will see a dramatic cool down.    Seems like this weather phenomenon going to ring true.

1The White-stemmed Evening Primroses are starting to pop out all over our rocky hillside, on the cactus hill, and the Coyote hill.  They are also showing up in the deserts all around us and between Delta and Grand Junction,Colorado.

2If you are not really paying attention, as you speed along, in your car these precious white flowers look like someone flung trash out their car windows scattering the trash everywhere.  Slowing down, or even pulling over and stopping the car, gives a person a rare treat of these lovely desert flowers.

FamilyWayne and Carolyn, Terry’s sister and brother-in-law,  stopped by for an over-night stay Saturday.  They were on their way back home to Arizona, after attending a funeral of Wayne’s Aunt.  We were very grateful they made the detour to come see us for the short-time they were in our state.

BookendsMy tremendous work load is just about to ease.  It is looking like we have potential renters for the other house.  I am crossing my fingers and toes everything works out.  I have been stretched so far I can’t even get started on my yard.

Evening-setWe finish up the irrigation of the alfalfa field tonight, then it will be only the corn field.  The irrigation of the corn field is coming along as well, it just takes time, because it is such a huge field.  Once that field gets wet, we move to the smaller field by the house…Terry hopes to plant corn the first week in May.  Boy is time flying.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment or just reading.  I enjoy sharing this tiny spot of our life, on this part of western Colorado with you.

Linda

We Finally Finished—Thursday, February 5, 2015

HomeFinally Terry and I are done with the trees and the fences.  What a huge intense mess we had for a spell.  But now we are done!  YAY!

Now the cows can come and I can enjoy them.  It’s always fun to see the girls arrive–these are first year heifers and second year cows, which means this is the first year for the young cows to have a calf and the second year for last years heifers to calve out.  The reality is these cows are 2 and 3 years old. They have spent their youth here on our place and/or calved out the first time here with us.

I delight when they come, they run here and there, grabbing bits of food, heading to old favorite spots AND coming over to visit us (in particularly the fenced off hay yard; one never knows if the hay yard just MIGHT not be fenced off.)  It takes them a good 10 days to settle into a routine.

Uncle Spike posted a double Rainbow, he said I could link to him so you can see it also!

Even if there wasn’t rainbow right here on the farm, a beautiful sign of hope appeared in my inbox.

All is well!

Before I forget here is the skyline in full daylight.   The only blight is the dead tree stump—which is 30 feet or so in air.   We still might cut it clear to the ground, but this is the stump Misty wants to have Kelly make into a platform for the kids to play on.  Our grandchildren are NOT afraid of height, their grandmother is.

Night-HouseToday I’m going to CLEAN my house!  As you might know it is in dire need after the last several days of trees and fences.  I also need to go buy a birthday present for a certain little granddaughter who will be 7 on the 15th of February.

Thanks to each and everyone of your for stopping by and reading about our Life on a Colorado Farm.  I also appreciate all your comments and your support for the Sherlock Boomer story.  I’m rather jazzed to see if I can actually create a full book.

The sun is shining here and we are heading up to 62* by this afternoon!

Life is Good!

Step Through My Gate — Thursday, August 7, 2014

GateThank you for stopping by!  I always love chatting with you.  Sometimes I’m a little slow getting your comments answered, but I do try to not go too long.

This August has been very busy (so far) with the two oldest grandchildren staying with us for the week.  We have worked at making their days special and full of memories.  We are exhausted but pleasantly so.  Today their Momma comes back to pick them up.  She is bringing the other little grandkid with her so we will have all the family for two days.(Well, accept for Kelly he is extremely busy with his new job.)

The  coming week to we have to ourselves.  That is good…we need a rest.  Then the two little girls will be back for a week then school starts for all of them.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting, or pushing the like button, or signing up to follow the blog! I will be visiting with you very soon.  Until then I hope you enjoy my contribution to the Teresa’s Thursday’s Good Fences and Gates.  Please hop over and visit Teresa’s blog and check out all the other ‘great finds’ located there.  Also, if you would like to add a cool fence or gate just post yours on your blog then link the post to Teresa’s post about Fences and Gates.
