And Then There are Bees —- Monday, July 7, 2025

Busy. Humming while she works. Singing to me, the flower, and herself.

I sat quietly watching her work.  Listening to her song.

Contented.  She and I.  And the hollyhock.

A feel-good sort of moment.

Word of the day: Omnism: the belief that no religion is truth but that truth is found within them all.

I love getting emails that open up with a wonderful surprise—

“Thought of you from our farm in western Nebraska…” The email said.

How absolutely marvelous!  This rainbow.  The wide expanse of Nebraska farmland, who could ever ask for more?

Snapping Wasps — Thursday, July 3, 2025

It really isn’t easy!

Not like photographing the hawk

Or a bird landing in the grass

Or a cute little chipmunk

Or a very handsome buck

But it IS a tad fun to see if I can capture one on my camera.

Word of the day—Desiderium (n): an ardent desire or longing; a feeling of loss or grief for something lost

We’ve Decided to Take Wee Trips Now and Then— Wednesday, July 2, 2025

Since all work and no play make Terry and me EXHAUSTED!!! We decided to go somewhere close (a day-trip, if you will) once a week.   This time we headed to Collbran, Colorado, by the route of Grand Mesa. (Click on the blue links to learn more)

The ski resort on Grand Mesa

Still snow up there on the rims

From Collburn, we turned toward Vega State Park.  Then we turned onto a side road heading the back way to Silt, Colorado

Yep, we went by this

Back roads all the way—gravel part of the way

Then on to Silt, and after that

To Rifle, Colorado, where we stopped for a late lunch at Dickey’s Barbecue.  YUM!

Then home again, home again…ready to take on the work.

Easy Peasy, Thanks — Tuesday, July 1, 2025

A neighbor stopped by.  A rancher whose ranch connects to our farm

( photo from the archives)

“You folks be open to me buying that hay?  I’ll rake it, and bale it, and haul it.  So much a ton.”

Heck YEAH!

35 bales—1,500 pounds apiece!  A win-win for all!
