That Herd is Going to Be a Big Problem Next Year — Sunday, September 21, 2025

This is corn damage from the deer.

Once the silk is gone, the corn stops making kernels.

They are as bad as the bear and the raccoon, and skunks — these guys will tear the corn off the stalk and eat part of it.  Of course, the corn is dead when that happens.

And let us not forget the coyotes and the fox!  At each and every stage, there is yummy corn to eat.

They all love corn!  YUM!

Sigh!

Chapter Four

Bears!  Let me tell you what we (Dad, Mom, Boo, and I) know about bears.

Let’s see:

  1. There have been lots of fires this summer on the Uncompahgre Plateau. All the fires were started by lightning and burned for most of the summer, and were only put out sometime in August.
  2. The Uncompahgre Plateau is where the bears live. So do mountain lions and other types of predators.  Just say’n.
  3. If there are fires up on the Uncompahgre Plateau and the bears live there, they are hungry and in need of food. You see, bears must put on tons and tons of weight before winter sets in because they sleep all winter.  If they don’t get enough fat stored on their bear bodies, they die in their sleep because of starvation.
  4. Also, if there isn’t any rain up on the Uncopahgre Plateau, the bears can’t find anything to eat.

AND #5!!!!  It’s CORN Season!  I don’t know how they know, but they do.  It doesn’t matter if there are no fires on the Uncompahgre Plateau, and the rain is plentiful, the berries and nuts and all other yummy things are abundant, when Corn Season hits (from green field corn to that most delicious of sweet corn), the bears come.

Moms come with their cubs, young bears come that don’t get to stay with mom anymore, and Dads come because they LOVE corn!

(All the photos Mom posted on here are bear(s) who have been here in or around our farm.

Oh! Yes!  And here is another thing that happens when bears come down from the Uncompahgre Plateau—

  1. They poop big giant wet poop, which Dogs love to roll in. (Just so you know, to keep your pup away from such smelly stuff)
  2. They really don’t like people. They are shy.  Even more than a fox.  They usually hide in the cornfield to be sure, but still, they hide
  3. People are stupid around them and want to hang out with the bear. Beats me why.  They drag out their cameras, point and take photos, and try to pet them.  Kinda stupid if you ask me.  A ton bear can wipe a silly human right off the face of the earth.  Especially if that bear is a Momma with cubs.

Anyway, our bear went into the field.  Stayed overnight and crossed over into our neighbor’s sweet corn field.

Boo and I followed his scent trail, so we know.  Mom and Dad also know because they saw the bear poop going down the canal and then a big bunch across the way.

Bear Gone!

That is a good thing.  We have more stuff to talk about than BEAR!

Look for Peace — Thursday, September 18, 2025

If you become so busy that your mind is full of noise, a rushing feeling floods your body, a need to Move, MoVE! MOVE! over takes your being.

STOP! All those feelings create a heart, mind, and soul of pure overwhelm.

Go to a special, quiet place and let everything settle.  Then, I promise you, you will hear God — however and whoever you perceive God to be.

Give yourself peace.  It’s a gift that will carry you through the rest of the day (or night)

From my heart to your world,

Linda

I’ve Been Thinking — Wednesday, September 17, 2025

I’ve been thinking about getting old(er)

And still flourishing—how to keep on keeping on, as it may

I think it comes down to just a few things:  thrive by creating joy.  Really, I know I seem to harp on this, but I can’t express it enough.

Events promote happiness, but joy comes from your soul.

Move!  Get up and ‘do’ something that brings happiness to your core.

Then look for glimmers to fill your thoughts instead of negative, beating yourself up, thoughts.  Replace those horrid things with Glimmers.  Once you have the glimmer, tell the negative thought to banish from your mind, evermore.

Then quiet your mind and observe your world.  No matter where you live, country, city, suburb–on a riverboat…it doesn’t matter.

There are gifts everywhere, and these gifts can change your life to one of beauty and joy.

From my heart to your world,

Linda

Thank you! Each and every one!  Thank you, Cliff.

Who Knew?! —- Sunday, September 14, 2025

I love light!  I love looking at things that expand and filter, and

Showcase light

Did you know that a person who loves light is called a photophile: a person who loves light?

I never knew.

The Adventures of Boo Berry Betty and TLC Cai-Cai on Friday—-MY TURN!!! TLC , Friday, September 12, 2025 , Friday, September 12, 2025 Chapter Three

Chapter Three

One day—well, humm, I would say around after daylight, and before I go into the house for my nap.  I was outside doing some scouting by the gated pipe.  Mom, Dad, and Boo were up at the Biggest Corn field setting water in the new alfalfa field. Well, it’s really not new; it was planted last year, but this year is the first year it could be harvested.  See it takes that long for the baby alfalfa plants to become strong enough to handle being cut three times a year.

Dad says some people do cut the alfalfa the year it’s planted but he never does; the stem on the plant is very fine and extremely full of protein.  That protein is so strong it can cause an alfalfa eater to bloat and, well, die.

Therefore, Dad Never cuts alfalfa the first year of growth.

Now on the second year of growth, the plant has become an adult.  Therefore, the protein is distributed throughout the whole plant and not collected in just the stem.  Also, the leaves—the yummy, yummiest part, are full and round and hold a perfect amount of protein, minerals, and other good stuff for alfalfa eating animals.

I DO NOT EAT ALFLAFA!

Boo Berry does not eat alfalfa.  Just say’n.

Hooved animals eat alfalfa!

So anyway—back to my story!

Since this new alfalfa field was getting water again (one cutting had already been hauled away). Mom and Dad and Boo Berry were setting up the syphon tubes to start the water on the just finished being cut, baled, and hauled field when Dad stopped everything.

“I Know!  I KNOW!!! I’m the one who told you what Dad saw!”  Boo Berry yelled excitedly.  “It was a BEAR!!  Going into the corn field right by the house and right next to the gated pipe!!!

Right!!! I confirmed.

Like I said, I was out there, scouting around—

hummm, skunk here last night.  Squirted someone…oh, squirted the fox.  Silly fox!

Yep, that black cat was here again.

GRRRRR!

I kept on sniffing and learning things.

Suddenly, a squirrel dashed in front of me.  I was so startled I didn’t even give chase.  Besides, I was full.  Yummy canned cat food mom got me that I ate down without gagging.

I was looking this way, sniffing that way, when suddenly coming right toward me was a BEAR!!

Oh! My Heavens!  I’ve never really, ever seen one up close and personal.

It was big and super furry and had hooked claws and was BIG!

I stopped, stunned and scared.

The bear looked right at me.

Then the bear turned into one of the corn rows and disappeared.

I ran to the house as fast as I could and stayed next to the back porch and awning for the rest of the day and the next day.

I always sleep inside at night — I know I am safe inside.

SING! LOUD! SING LONG!! — Thursday, September 11, 2025

Joy! Joy! To you and me —-that amazing, glorious moon, rising through the haze, seen peaking at us from beneath clouds!

Shadows under the Willow tree— giving shade to any who wish

One!  (1) lonely Heavenly Blue Morning Trumpet—what an amazing glimmer

And then, when I am a little on the sad side, or the worried side, or just feeling a bit down…I am gifted kisses from the earth!

Oh! Lift up your heart!  Sing loudly from your soul!  Who can ask for more?

Fall — Autumn — It is HERE!, Wednesday, September 10, 2025

We are seeing more clouds—some storm-laden.

The grasses are turning red

Something I’ve really never noticed before.

They are actually rather beautiful.

The trees are starting to turn yellow–a true sign, if there ever was one.

Spider webs dot the landscape

The light is changing!

Yep–no matter what the calendar says, the earth, the sky, and all the plants say fall is here!

I am so thankful, happy, and very, very grateful!
