The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday—Blessings

Mom says everything has been a roller coaster ride…the last three weeks!  Boomer and I talked about a roller coaster and decided we don’t know what a roller coaster was.  Since we couldn’t figure it out we decided it wasn’t important.

As for riding…heck!  We haven’t really ridden on anything that was really bad…we’ve gone to do water several times, rode to town several times, laid under the pick-up lots, but as far as anything else…I guess we just don’t understand.

GUESS WHAT!!!

WaterThe water is now in the canal!

My-best-helperWe’ve started the water on the alfalfa fields…I LOVE IRRIGATING!  Most of the time I like to stay home and guard the house and the buildings and the yard [now].  But Mom makes me go with her (and Boomer and Dad) sometimes.   Boy, am I ever glad I go!

You see—IT’S IRRIGATION TIME!

Hank-helpsHank even comes over from his house and helps out.

We had to stop…irrigating, I mean. Dad’s main ditch…the one that leaves the head gate and enters onto the farm washed out.  A huge hole washed into the bend, the side caved away with Dad standing on it, and everything went splash!

The splash part was sorta neat, I rushed right over to see if something cool was in the water…nope, no water rats, or mice, or snakes…but there was DAD!  I skedaddled out the way when I saw it was Dad.  😦

Fuzzy-helping-usMom and Dad put 300 pounds of cement into the ditch, worked on the sides, and created a whole new bend.

Fix

Just as soon as the cement cures the water will be back on and we will be IRRIGATING!!!  YIPPEE!!!

Main

We have had rain and the snow and  sleet and ice.  We went from a HOT day to several days of very, very cold.

Hot

Boomer and I are still sleeping inside.  I’m not sure if I’m going to move us outside at all this year.  Old bones really don’t like cold, you know.

Dad and Mom have the water back on and in the alfalfa that didn’t get watered yet.

You know something, I just thought of this, our lives(Dad, Mom, Boomer and I)  are all governed by the irrigation water!  Now THAT is cool!

Just-a-swing'n

Here I am just a swing’n.  I like to sit in this swing and feel the breezes on my fur.  Now days I have to have Mom put me up here.  I get really close to the swing and look beseechingly at Mom until she comes over and picks me up and sits me on the swing.

AHHHHHHHHH!

Life is good!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Thirteen Years and Counting

This is my BIRTHDAY month!

Birthday

Mom says I have a whole month for a birthday!  That is because she doesn’t really know when I was born!  I was a lost dog when Mom and Misty found me.

I was also five years old when Mom and Misty found me.

You see I was ‘dumped off’ in the country by my other people.  Since I am part Border collie and part Sheltie (that is what my vet says) I sat by the side of the road where they dumped me for days and days and days.  Anytime Mom or Misty would try to get me I would run off…I was waiting for my people to come back, you see.

I waited until I went from 40 pounds to 25 pounds.  I was sooooooooooo hungry I almost couldn’t run anymore.  But I waited!

Then Misty came out with ROAST BEEF!  That was it…I was Mom’s for life.  Mom took me home and gave me lots of love and took me to the vet and well…here we are eight years later!

Beautiful-Fuzzy

Since Mom brought me home in June that is when my birthday is…I get a whole month…because neither she nor I could figure out a good day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ME!!!

Dad had a meeting so Mom, Boomer and I did the water without Dad.  We had lots to do.

Dead-Skunk

A skunk got in one of the gated pipes so we had to get it out and then bury it.

WAY COOL!

Boomer and I wanted to sniff it up really well, but Mom didn’t let us….  “Leave the dead alone you guys!” she said.

Beans-are-up

We had to walk up to the middle of the pinto bean field and check on a pipe there…it was horribly HOT!

What's-out-there

Then we rode the four-wheeler up to the hay field to see how the alfalfa was in the hay making process.  Boomer jumped off because he smelled a cool smell and had to run home.

With-the-dogs

Then we sat outside and had a couple of really yummy Dog Treats and a milk bone for my Birthday while Mom watched the hummingbirds. And I got lots and lots and lots of pets.  Boomer got some too, but it was my special day so Boomer had to let me have the most!

Night-food

Then around 10 o’clock that night we all went back out and changed the water in the front corn field.

It sure was a nice day!

A perfect Birthday just for me!

Yesterday Terry and I had to change out the rubber gaskets, which had hardened over the winter. (They were leaking and making a mess)

Changing-out-the-gaskets

We had to pull apart the pipes and then reset them after the gaskets were in place…not hard, but time consuming.  One of those little housekeeping jobs that is so necessary, but tedious to do.  I’m sure every last one of you can relate to that in some fashion.

Today we try to take off…as much as a farm and running water will let you.

  • Our grandson has two soccer games,  either both or one of us will attend.
  • Our oldest granddaughter has a soccer camp, which we will NOT attend.
  • Our youngest granddaughter has a dance recital that Shannon and I will be taking her too.

Then after all of that we will be celebrating our youngest daughter’s 36th birthday…goodness time flies!

Most of the time Terry and I don’t really feel old, but when we look at the ages of our four children we realize we HAVE moved into the last part of our lives.

But we AREN’T Dead Yet….so onward we go!  🙂 🙂

Have a great Sunday you’all!  It’s supposed to be 80* here today.

 I’m delighted!!!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Just Another Day on the Farm

We have been busy.

Nothing real exciting, but real busy.

We are still irrigating.

Sometimes the grandkids come over and help, and Mom-mom, and of course Hank Puff comes along.

Mom’s been cutting all the volunteer corn for Misty’s goats.

We cut the last corn last evening.

I’ve about decided that getting in out of ditches is getting too much for me.

This morning when we went out, and this afternoon, I just stayed on the back of the four-wheeler and waited while everyone moved the water from one spot to the next.  That was enough work for this old dog.

I’ll just let Hank chase the water for now.

Of course Boomer still jumps off and runs around.  Sometimes he gets left behind, but not as much as when we first started water this spring.

On the way back Mom scared up a doe…she was hiding in the biggest corn field.  She jumped right out in front of us and lucky for Mom she had the camera out and in her hand.

In two weeks Dad will cut the hay for the third and last time this year.  Sure seems early.  Usually that happens about the second week of September, makes me wonder if he will get a fourth cutting?  I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Got Ya

Now as everyone knows, it’s been hot here!

Hot and dry!

Dry and Hot!

Did I tell you it has been very hot and dry here?

Well, it has.

Still the work has to go on.

We are still changing water every eight hours.

Boomer and I LOVE to change water.

We were out with Mom and Dad changing water last evening when Boomer hollered that Pete and Polly were over at the old apricot tree!

I didn’t go see them; the bubbles in the water were more fun.

Boomer said he just barked “Hello” and went on his way…there were lots of things to smell out in the equipment yard:

  • The bunnies have had more babies
  • Two more ground squirrels have set up home next to the leveler
  • The badger has two little badgers hanging in the badger hole
  •  Nope, still no coyotes…..yet (we hope they don’t come back…they can live in the draw or the canyon, but not here, please!)
  • Hummmm, the raccoons and the fox were fighting over the fallen apricots
  • The big buck deer is sleeping in the middle of the corn field
  • There are two new fawns

You know lots and lots of news.

A whole bunch of storm clouds blew in around the two o’clock setting that afternoon.

It cooled down real nice.

Then suddenly the heavens broke loose…thunder, lightning (shudder, shiver, pant, panic) and big wind.  Boomer and I headed indoors to be with Mom.  Thunder doesn’t bother Boomer at all. Nothing really bothers Boom, outside of some men and some boys in caps and the garage other than that…he is always happy!

While we were inside it rained!!

Yippee!  Mom and Dad were so happy they sat outside and watched it rain.  Lots of rain, really nice rain!  (Oh and when they went outside I (and Boomer) had to go outside with them (shudder) because I am NOT leaving Mom when there is thunder in the sky!!!!

EVER!

Then Mom saw it……

A RAINBOW!  Just as the sun was starting to set!

“A perfect ending to a perfect day”, Mom said.

Just then the phone rang….it was Mom-mom, seems that Hank Puff met Pete and Polly.

(Taken with a cell phone)

Which reminds me, we did hear Hank sort of barking and yipping down at his house, but since there was so much thunder I didn’t really listen to him.

I keep telling that boy, he can’t chase everything, nor can he bite at everything.

(taken with a cell phone)

Boomer asked me later, just as we were going to sleep…

“Fuzzy?”

“Hummm?”

“Do you think Hank Puff has learned his lesson about trying to catch everything that walks close to him?”

“I don’t know, Boomer.  I really don’t know”
