A Moment of Relief—Tuesday, August, 30, 2016

StormLast Thursday the heat of the afternoon bore down on us in such a wave of intensity I thought this fall weather had made a huge and dramatic turn back to summer.

The-color-redTerry was gone for the day, having flew out of Montrose for a meeting in Brighton, Colorado; it was up to Boomer and I to check the irrigation and  keep the farm running.

It was late in the afternoon; the gnats and mosquitoes were in swarms of carnivorous activity wherever we walked along the ditch bank—- when I felt the cool down from the swiftly moving clouds.

Storm-2It started sprinkling just before we got back to the house.  Then it started to rain.

Birds-on-a-wire

Not a bad rain, a gentle rain, a moment of relief from the suffocating heat; enough so the sparrows hung out on the wire taking a bath.

HailSuddenly the sky turned into hail, the birds, Boomer and I scattering. The blows from the hail and the wind silencing everything and everyone as we hunkered down waiting for the end.

Yellow-2Gradually the noise lessened; the air ringing empty—only the canal talking loudly as the water rushed by.

We got an inch of rain from that storm…a mixed blessing, because of the hail.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

A Freak Spring Hail Storm—-Sunday, May 8, 2016

Early Saturday morning, around 3-or 4, I don’t really remember now.  We had a terrible hail storm

Hail-1It came in swath straight from the south

Hail-2

Tearing through the farm yard and damaging the trees

Hail-3We have little leaves stuck everywhere.

Although, we feel we were lucky because none of the plants set out under freeze covers were damaged, the covers stayed in place…and the corn is not up in the fields.

Saturday-MorningThe sunrise looked like this!  Stunning isn’t it?

Then the rain clouds came back in…only rain clouds.  We are still changing water through all of this rain, mud and cold.  Irrigation doesn’t stop once we start.

Saturday-eveningBy sunset Saturday evening the clouds started parting.  It was glorious!

Today is cold and only partly cloudy.  Once more I’m very thankful the corn isn’t up yet and my covered tomatoes and other things are still doing fine.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Linda

Maybe Today—Nope!—Sunday, June 14, 2015

Conversation Saturday morning….7:00

Terry-“What does the weather people say about the weather today?  If it’s going to be nice for a week I really need to cut the alfalfa.”

Clouds-1

Me–“Hummm, a slight, chance of scattered thunderstorms.”

Terry–“Okay, I’ll get ready and then go out this afternoon.  First I need to haul some dirt.”

Me–“Sounds Good!”

2:30 p.m.

RainHail, rain, thunder, lightening, flooding.

Terry, after coming in soaked, —“I guess we were in the path of the SLIGHT chance of a thunder storm.”

Me–“I guess so.”

Your friend on a very wet western Colorado Farm,

Linda
