Stamped Upon the Heart and Brain—Thursday, August 13, 2015

xSometimes in the evening (after irrigation is done) we sit, Terry and I, upon the outside chairs.

If we get in Before the sunsets.  Last night was one of those nights.

We relaxed and let the evening take over…the little swallow family was busy feeding the tiny mouths for the long, long rest until morning.

The hummingbirds zoomed by us, filling up for their night, Boomer lay on my feet and Sam-Sam our outside kitty sat on Terry’s lap purring.  In the bathroom window, Monkey the house cat (because she eats birds) lay stretched out longing to be outside with us.  But birds come first on our farm.

It was one of those moments when you are aware of your own heartbeat.  A watching.  A space in time, which stamps itself upon your heart, brain and soul. A moment instantly recalled in every detail for the rest of your life.

Your friend on a Western Colorado farm,

  2. We have the presence of night hawks, very much like swallows in their flight capabilities, this time of year for only about 3 or 4 weeks; amazingly agile and graceful birds that fly only in the evenings through early mornings. When I’m out with the dogs, they chase the flying insects, performing impossible-looking aerobatics – very similar to the millions of bats we have in the desert, but their wings are very long and shapely instead of short like bat wings.

  3. Hi There, I always enjoy your posts although I seldom have time to comment on blogs these days–nor even do one myself…Crazy life we have –but wonderful. Just wanted to tell you that the Cannas are blooming in their new home (new flowerbed George built for me this spring).. I’ll share a picture sometime… ALSO–I have a question for you. What has happened to the special corn from Colorado (which begins with an “O”)??? Haven’t seen any around here this summer and we really love that corn…

  4. Peaceful evening for you both.
Cute robin and it’s nest – do you have to spray for
ticks and lice where these little blokes nest?
Looks like another perfect day here – the public
show holiday had just one swift and certainly dramatic
burst of weather fury. A tropical storm came up from the
south and for about 20 minute lashed the city – I couldn’t
see the houses across the street with rain lashing down at
    a 45 degree angle.
Then it just vamoosed out over the Pacific!!! Weird.
