About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. Yesterday’s Wind, Memories in Sunlight—Monday, November 27, 2017

We are lucky, in this day and age of digital cameras, computers, and instantly being able to see what was ‘there’ just a short while back.

Wisps of shadows in the late fall sunshine,

Of the barely audible murmur of childhood growing up.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

A Thousand Tiny Bits of Everyday Dreams—-Sunday, November 26, 2017

One evening this week the sun slid behind the Uncompahgre Plateau painting the sky over Grand Mesa shades of apricot and peach

While Boomer, Romeo, and I took a wee walk

to take Romey back to his barn (I left Mindy in the house toasting by the wood stove.)

Gradually the shadows blanketed the farm and the air started to crisp

On the way back I heard my named whispered faintly in the wind, calling me…calling me

I thought about that…hearing my name in the wind— finally deciding it really wasn’t a very lonely sound, or something to shatter a heart.

Boomer and I walked home in the evening’s silver puffs of air me thinking how much I love this earth we call home.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— My Week

First off…TALLY CAME!!! Tally always hugs and loves on me THE BEST!

Tally also had a first…Dad announced she was now old enough to drive the four-wheeler BY HERSELF!  She was really proud of that moment. She drove here and there and wherever Dad said she could go!! Not all the time, but when Dad said she could!

One day we all were up at the Upper End when Mom spotted the biggest news at the Upper End (and the Biggest News of the WHOLE week)!

Something killed and ate a HAWK!!!  Feather’s everywhere.

Later on in the afternoon Tally took a bike ride and we went way back up there to check out the feathers, and the news…you KNOW I love gathering the news!

Tally took three feathers — two for her and one for Grammy.  Grammy likes to find feathers she puts them in a special place.  When Mom/Grammy finds a feather she always thinks it’s a gift from the bird to Mom/Grammy.

Anyway, as Tally was gathering feathers she JUMPED back and gave a start I came over to see what happened…  “There’s a foot/claw in there, Boomie” she said. “Whoever ate this hawk forgot to eat one foot.”  I saw Tally shudder.  Humm…wonder why she shuddered.

Then she put the three feathers in her ponytail and we headed back.

The next morning Grandpa and Tally went for a very early four-wheeler ride and they saw a GREAT! BIG! BIRD! Sitting in a tree close to the place where the hawk was dinner.  Grandpa/Dad wasn’t real sure what the bird was, but Tally thought it looked like a Golden Eagle…Grandpa/Dad said that was very possible since we have them around here.

Mom, Tally, Dad, and I saw the buck who is living close by. He lost the battle of the Back Forty to a younger buck (Dad saw them battling); he mopped his way down here and has been sluppling around in a depression ever since.  Mom says he is beautiful but she isn’t sure she likes him hanging around in her yard. (Although, I did see Mom take out two pumpkins, smash them, and pull them open for the buck to eat….just say’n.)

Oh…to be fair Mom did put the pumpkins in the corn field, not on her lawn.

We went to town one day TO MY STORE!!! But Mom wouldn’t let me get out this time…she said Dad was just running in for a minute (more like FOREVER) and we were waiting in the truck.

I pouted…that’s MY STORE!  The only store in the whole wide town I get to go in and smell TOWN things.  Grump, grump!

Then it was time for my little buddie to leave. Sigh…sure was sad to see her drive off.

I took myself to my bed and just laid there forever feeling so sad….

Mom came to me and said she and Dad were going for a walk…do I want to come or continue laying on my bed.

I sat up and looked at her….WALK!

You bet I’m ready for walk!

Well, that’s my week…lots of ups and downs.  But when it comes time for a walk…I AM YOUR DOG!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!—-Thursday, November 23, 2017

“There are four unbroken rules when it comes to Thanksgiving: there must be turkey and dressing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.”–John Hadamuskin

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Each Day Brings It’s Own Gifts—Wednesday, November 22, 2017

“Each day comes bearing its own gifts.  Untie the ribbons.”–Ruth Ann Schabacker

Tally came.  We got to have her for three days and two nights

The time went fast for Grandpa and I…

I’m sure, what we saw as shimmering motes of time; specks dancing in the light, passing faster than a heartbeat–

Probably had long-drawn-out-moments for her

But for us…each second seemed to shimmer in the air

Grandchildren are that place in your heart where flowers grow and journeys are short–
They color you heart in shades of color you never knew existed.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Two Gifts…NO! Wait! Three Gifts—-Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Terry and I had to go to Grand Junction last week to purchase a few items.   While at Home Depot

A man was just coming back from taking his two Macaw Parrots for their daily walk, through the building then a wee trip around the parking lot

It was so much fun meeting these very tame birds.  Neither one is tethered to the walker, they sit calmly talking loudly to everyone about everything they see.  Then after the wee walk about…they get to go to Sonic and have a CORN DOG!!! Oh! MY! the delight in their little voices when their Dad asked them if they were ready to go to SONIC!!

I enjoyed getting to meet these birds and their human.

Then on the ride home…among the hills and canyons a very faint rainbow appeared.

A day as perfect as anyone could dream!

In the First Shadows of Early Morning—-Monday, November 20, 2017

Early, early Saturday morning we took a ride into the Escalante-Dominquez Wilderness just a few miles from our farm

Map of Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area

We wanted to see the new bridge the county put in by The Escalante Cattle Company Ranch and then to find where the old bridge was moved.

Of course Terry didn’t want to take the ‘regular’ road 🙂

Stopping on top of a huge knobby hill we took a walk here and there

Looking upon this land where the shadows seem to dance unfettered

Across timeless vistas

And there below…the Gunnison River moving ever toward the joining of the Colorado River at Grand Junction, Colorado.

Not far from us…just over there….

Finally Finished—-Sunday, November 19, 2017

“Everyone thinks you make mistakes when you are young.  But I don’t think we make any fewer when we are grown up.” — Jodi Picoult

Finally…after working a little here and there all late spring, through the summer, and just now finishing in late fall I can finally say “DONE!”

It’s just a kit.  But for me and my skills it was a fun evening past time.

I’m also glad it’s finished.  That white rose was terribly hard to do with all the different shading and subtle use of color.  I (very much) enjoyed the big bold colors of all the other flowers. 🙂

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Helping Mom and Dad

It’s that time of year!!

It that time when Mom and Dad and I help put the farm to bed.

That means we load up all the two million billion trillion syphon tubes and take them back to the barn to store them for the winter.

And the dams…we can’t forget the dams, they go back to the barn also.

This year Dad decided to bring the pick-up and we would load one load at a time until we get everything done.  Usually it’s Mom and I with the trailer and the four-wheeler.  Having Dad and the pick-up goes ever so much faster!!!

THAT IS FOR SURE!

Mom lets me out to run around while they slowly pick up the tubes, then when they look like they are about ready to go to the barn I head over to them and GET a ride home!

Riding home is MUCH better than trotting along behind or getting LEFT behind. (Yes that has happened, but I’m trying really hard to not let it happen again!)

Guess what I saw last night?

I had gone out to check out the yard before I settled in for the night and

There it was….

I didn’t bark, howl or anything…I just slowly, ever so slowly backed up and beat it back to the house.

Sleeping outside in this cold is not an option….or having to have a bath with a NOT VERY HAPPY MOM scrubbing on me late at night is NOT another option!

Anyway…gota run, it’s back to the pick-up and out to the field time.

See ya soon,

Boomer

GHOST!?!—Thursday, November 16, 2017

Sometimes the world of dreams is alive and present here in our daily living

That other world is there…spreading ripples through out the air

But we have a tendency discount the presence of a twin world…turning the mist into something more ordinary

Still a look out the corner of your eye catches that ‘something’, which hangs in the alertness of the air

If only…only we would turn quickly enough…if only we looked hard enough…

We could see the wind picking up  mundane corn leaves telling us there are others around us….here.
