Blue Mesa Reservoir —- Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Blue Mesa Reservoir is the primary Reservoir from which OUR irrigation water flows THROUGH.

Our irrigation water comes from Taylor Park Reservoir, owned and operated by the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users.   The Water from Taylor Park flows into the Gunnison River through Blue Mesa Reservoir then out to all of us.

We took a short trip (it’s about an hour or so to the reservoir) to see how low it is.

It’s low.

You can see by the water line.

Gosh, I sure hope we have lots and lots and lots of snow this winter.

For our water in the Gunnison and the Uncompaghre flow into the Colorado River and all of you know how bad THAT is.

A Day in the Life of an Ordinary Farmer —- Monday, September 12, 2022

We spent all day Thursday hauling dirt from the settling pond a mile from our farm.

Load the trailer, dump the trailer repeat.

We will use this dirt to fill in low spots on the fields, to fix a road that washed out, and to pack areas which  the wind has whipped bare (like over culverts)

Last load—8-5 we are tired and ready to stop.

Done for another year.

I SAW A SUNDOG!!! —- Sunday, September 11, 2022

I saw a sundog (through our dirty car’s windows 🙂 )

Our temperatures are starting to come down.  YAY!

It sure is time for a break in the heat and for lovely Autumn temperatures to arrive!

The Adventures of TLC Cai-Cai and Boo Berry —SCATTER— Chapter Six, Friday, September 9, 2022

There is something just marvelous

About

Birds!

Just so you know.

Although, Mom says I like them for the wrong reasons.

Not really, Mom.

I like them because they are….

DO NOT EVEN THINK OF IT!!! Mom yelled at me.

Shish!

Hummmm I like them because they have lift off

They can fly

AND THEY CAN

SCATTER!

They did, lift-off,

and they did

Scatter.

Sigh

FIRE!!!! Thursday, September 8, 2022

Driving home one evening Terry and I saw black smoke rising swiftly and darkly on the horizon

It was still strong and black on the Uncompahgre Plateau when we went out to change the water.

But, the fire map I consulted didn’t mention anything, so I guess this is subscribed burn.

Sure looks scary to me.

Heat Shamelessly Covering the Land —- Wednesday, September 7, 2022

It’s so hot (right now)

All our work is done early in the morning

And late at night

Although, the night has those amazing darting, biting bugs in it.

Do I sound whiny —- sigh— I guess I am.

I must do something about that.

So here is a stunning photo of the brilliantly hot sun through the corn!

Lovely!  I must say!

Savoring Summer — Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Although the birds are migrating

There are still lots of feathered friends around

The little squirrels are busy gathering and eating and gathering

While our majestic hawk has the challenge of finding food from the sky

The heat has returned to our part of the world, we are reaching triple digits again

Stil the daily work of the farm

And the everyday bliss of Summer goes on.

Of which I am shamelessly

Grateful for.

These darling little hand-carved ornaments come to me by way of Connie

She and her husband, Gene, craved them all year long, then gift them for Christmas.

Aren’t they marvelous?  And so very creative!

Once more, THANK YOU, Connie  https://farsideoffifty.blogspot.com/

THANK YOU!  THANK you! THANK YOU!

Rain Added (Although Not Right on the Farm), Sunday, September 4, 2022

Although watching it shower on the A’dobies was a delight.

The sunset bedazzling and very elaborate

The clouds gradually quieted as the sun subtracted itself from the simple life

Of our each and every day.

Work tilting forward always
