About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at https://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/ Your Friend on a Western Colorado Farm, Linda Brown

In the Golden Indian Summer Days —- Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Before the huge storm blows in tonight or tomorrow, or whenever it happens to hit

(The weather people are clanging the warning bell, even as I write this)

(The alfalfa is frozen, but still showing color)

I thought I would show you the last flickering lights of our Indian Summer paradise—a wee piece of afternoon warmth before the temperatures plunging into December levels and pale wintery sunlight

We are very dry again. Although the shadows on the road are lovely.

The unharvested corn has gone from golden to pale yellow

I saw a possible Sundog, as Mindy and Boomer and I were taking a wee walkabout.

Storm coming in they say….maybe so, only time will tell. (As my Momma used to say)

Until then it is a beautiful Indian Summer.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

A Little Madness is Delightful—-Monday, November 18, 2019

After a predictably BORING morning,

There is nothing better than to shatter the calm

With a little bit of WILD horseplay!

For Two Nights and One and 1/2 Days —- Sunday, November 17, 2019

It wasn’t a long visit,

But was a very nice visit…then noon came today

And they were gone.

Sigh!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— We Take A Golden Walk, Mindy Kit-Kat, Friday, November 15, 2019

Hello!  It’s Me, Mindy-Lou, Min-Min, Kit-Cat Brown.  Today is MY day to visit with you!

I had a very busy night, last night.

I checked out this and that and all things

around Mom’s yard.

Then I came in and took a very long nap right on my bed on the BIG Bed.

Then I got up and ate lunch headed outside; I had lots of stuff to do before it got dark.

There is lots of work for a busy kitty on the farm.

BUT the best part of the whole day yesterday WAS a walk with Mom, Dad, and Boomer

in the Golden light.

You see when the sun started sitting the whole world turn GOLD!

It was beautiful!

So Beautiful

I had to run and jump and skittered here and there and everywhere.

Mom said the Golden Light made her feel the same way.

(Dad and Boomer said they don’t get it…it just felt cold to them and time to head back inside.)

But Mom and I got it…so I guess it must be a girl thing…loving that Golden Light.

Two Gifts from the Earth’s Heart —-Thursday, November 14, 2019

These little kids, (teenagers, really)

Are Mom (Gambol Quail)

and Dad’s last of the summer’s bevy, (or flock). And they look like they are all boys!

They LOVE to see me head over with my sack of black oil sunflower seeds, waiting patiently for me to appear, ride up…then fluttering off to sit in the old tree while I spread out all the seeds.

I love feeding them, our farm is full of wildlife, for I believe a farm without wildlife is empty land.

While there I looked down, where I had walked many, many times and saw

Shining there in the tracks on the road was a HEART!

What a dazzling find!

Moving on, from feeding my wild creatures, I went down to see Shannon’s goats, horses Black Beauty

I found another Heart!

Wonderful, gentle gifts to warm my soul!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

On a Late Autumn Afternoon—-Wednesday, November 13, 2019

Under a darkening sky

The geese steadily winging their way to the Upper End and the harvested pinto bean field

Beaglie and I headed over to feed the creatures

Waiting patiently for their yummy snacks

At the equipment storage area. 🙂

In the Hidden Glimmer of Cloud Covered Moonlight—Tuesday, November 12, 2019

The sunset casting orange and pink lights along the Western sky; flinging light of soft pale pink, orange, and lavender in the East.

The full moon of November (the Beaver Moon)

Rose quickly through the high, scudding, pink-colored clouds

Casting a half-light on the high branches of the freeze-dried leaves.

Shrouded in lavender clouds the full moon’s light

Petenerated, in a soft glow.

(And I was there to see 🙂  )

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Moon-lighted Darkness— Monday, November 11, 2019

On a wee walk-about in

The moon-washed world

Boomer and I strolled taking photos in the November cold

The vibrations of the night were full of ghosts, sprites, elves, and Winter-time dwarves.

Prowling silently throughout the darkening land.

These wee unseen creatures stalking alongside the predators of the night

Shimmering mysteriously suddenly there

Adding to the unusualness of a star caught in the glow of the moon.

The world…strange, glowing, twinkling

Everything and everyone in the shadowy darkness

All caught in the silver moonlight.

With a Sigh, the Canal is Now Quiet —- Sunday, November 10, 2019

The unfettered sounds of rushing, dashing, crashing water

Has now passed.

The fresh and heady scent of clean, clear water

Has dwindled down to

To nothing.  No more frothing white ice fairies

Or the orchestra of rushing water singing to us

Only the pebbles resting on the bottom, drying slowly in the sun.

The year has come full circle; March the water will be rushing back to fill the canals and our farms. For now, everything waits.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— I Protect Mom, Friday, November 8, 2019

Mom and I were out and about.  Doing this and that and other things.

We would get on the four-wheeler; Mom would drive to here and there, then we would get off and Mom would do something.

I would sniff around and until Mom would call.

Back on the four-wheeler, we would go.

(Socks and flip-flops 🙂  )

It was way over by the old Apricot tree when Mom and I got off to ‘go for a walk’.

That’s what Mom said we were going to do

We were walking straight down the road when I suddenly saw

DANGER!

I crouched down real low, growled deeply in my chest; I had Mom to take care of, you see.

I kept like that for a long time.

BUT MOM KEPT ON WALKING TOWARD THE DANGER!

AND SHE KEPT CALLING ME TO FOLLOW!

Are you Kidding!  I’ve been out here on the farm in many dangerous situations and I KNOW DANGER!

I didn’t hurry up, but I started following Mom in my growling,

Creeping stance!

Making myself as BIG as I could make myself, raised my ears, lowered my tail and crept along.

Growl!

GROWL!  MOM COME BACK! I whined.

Suddenly the danger was right on me and it was

BLACK BEAUTY!!

I tricked Mom really well, don’t you think?

Boomer

(P.S. I knew there wasn’t danger all along, I was just tricking Mom.

Really.

My eyes still work very well, Thank you.

It was just to let Mom know I would take care of her.

Honestly.  This was all just a trick on Mom.)

Boomer

(P.P.S.S. I really thought it was a coyote.  But don’t tell anyone, okay.)
