Gifts from the Sky — Thursday, February 4, 2021

There is often more gifts in nature than we realize

Shooting stars are a gift…a flash of light, with a shower of sparks

So is the dim winter sun lighting up the beauty of a little collared-dove

Or to watch the flight of a bird being lit up by bright snowy clouds

Suddenly seeing a hawk flying low over the woodpile

Or to hear the call of the Sandhill Cranes as they wing over the farmyard

Or that flash of red on a Red-winged Blackbird

Lending brightness to a grey sort of day

Hearing an enchanting song

Even in the snow, there is a delight

Full of light, wonder, and song

No matter what is going on in your life…there are always moments of awe.

What a gift.

From the Heart of the Fire, A Heart — Wednesday, February 3, 2021

We have been clearing the pasture of old and dead tree stumps and branches.

Where we saw a sundog in the early, early morning sky

Shared the farm with the masses and masses of Sandhill Cranes (YAY)

Quail, a large Jack Rabbit (of whom I didn’t get a photo), and mice.

But, one of the neat things the fire gave us

Was a Heart Rock.  So hot I had to lift it carefully, with the rake, and place it in a snowbank to cool down.

A heart from the fire!

How neat is that?!

Those Wonderful Marvelous Girls — Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Even in the middle of winter

There is always so much to do.

Just ask T’Ata and Glory B…

Scattering Sandhill Cranes is just ONE of those fun things to do. 🙂

The Sky, Appearing Different throughout the Day — Monday, February, 1, 2021

There, just over-head…

Those marvelous pieces of vapor

Breaking up the melancholy feel

Of a bleak winter’s day.

Clouds…just a joyous as a sky full of birds!

The Mystery of Golden Light — Sunday, January 31, 2021

Sometimes…not always, but sometimes

The setting sun lights up the bare branches of the sleeping trees

Highlighting the gnarled and twisted leaves still stuck to the branches

Exposing the beauty of sleeping winter land.

A Mindy Adventure Story—Life Goes On, Friday, January 29, 2021 Chapter Eleven

Chapter Eleven

I was out doing my ‘stuff’.

Here

There

Everywhere

When I had to pause and really listen

“MINDY!!! MINDY It is getting dark!  You need to come in now!”  Mom called from a long way off.

“MINDY!”

I ignored her.  I’ve been trapped in the house for a couple of days now, because of the big cold snow storm we had.  I’m tired of the house.

So, on I went.

Here and there and just everywhere I could think of.

It was getting dark.

Even DARK!  But I didn’t care.  There was so much to do out here and I wanted to do it.

I was just heading around the Butler Bins, where Dad stores grain, when

OH! NO!

OH NO!

RUN! I thought RUN!

I turned as fast as I could and ducked UNDER the feed grinder, then slithered my way past the tractor shed.

Up toward the

OPEN GROUND!!!

I looked back… so far so good.

MOM!

DAD! LET ME IN!

That’s when I heard: COYOTES YAPPING

Oh, MY HEAVENS!!!
MEOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!
MOM!!!!

I was standing there yowling for Mom or Dad when suddenly

Out of nowhere streaked

FREDDY FOX!!!

He came from down the long-lane to the house, dashing past the chicken house and right on through the farm YARD!

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Then I heard…. yipping and yapping and in the distance the bark of Freddy.

It sounded like Freddy was leading them away.

OH, FREDDY THANK YOU SO MUCH! I mentally yelled.

THANK YOU!

Right at the moment, the door opened and I dashed into the house.

Whew!

That was close!

Earth, Sky, Snow, Sleet— Thursday, January 28, 2021

As the snow fell heavily on the farm

The Sandhill Cranes bunched together –trying to warm their soddened feathers.

I felt a tad sorry for them.

The Heartbeat of Winter — Wednesday, January 27, 2021

Winter can be sooooooooooooo long.

The dreary days have me dreaming of last summer

But—last summer is not the future

So I try to spend the long days

Capturing charming photos

Of winter’s birds.

They do lighten the days as they wing across the skies

Or glide carefully onto one of the large piles of firewood.

Shhh—carefully watching as

As lift-off occurs.

Birds, enchanting and spell-binding.

Perfect for getting through the long days of winter.

Some Would Call It a Bleak Day — Tuesday, January 26, 2021

Although, I am not a fan of winter

During the night Saturday

Off and on Sunday

Even on Monday

A wonderful snow storm washed over our part of the world

Shrouding everything in a ghostly white

Tumbling and swirling throughout the air…bringing moisture to our rather parched land.

A Marvelous, Delightful, Sparkling Gift!

From my heart to your world,

Linda
