Today is the The Day—Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Today is the shortest day of the year AND the longest night of the year.  Everything forward from this time brings us longer and longer days (and colder and colder temps, until March, that is.)

our-handsToday is also our 49th Wedding anniversary!

My we were young!  Terry was 23 and I 18.

2016-hands-49-years

Our elderly hands tell a story of their own (Terry is 72 and I am 67)…work worn and (in my case—full of age spots), but after living life on a daily basis, I guess it is to be expected.

We were both farm kids.

And we raised our kids on this very farm.  Over the years we milked cows, raised spring’n heifers, kept cows on the farm for weed control

We also had  rabbits, sheep, goats, a horse or two, cats, dogs and chickens.

We still farm, although not with as many animals.

49 years…next year 50!  What a wonderful thing it is!

When the Shop Cat Becomes a House Cat—–Tuesday, December 20, 2016

It’s terribly cold here.  (Cold is relative I know, but for us 4* at Nine in the morning was terribly cold)

dads-cat-001So Min-Min Lou was asked if she would enjoy spending her time in the house.

dads-cat-002She told us she thought this would be a very good idea.

Therefore, we now have an indoor/outdoor cat.

I told her she can come and go as she pleases!  She thought that was a VERY good thing.

Thanks, Joe!  I always enjoy seeing what is going on where my blog friends live.  I also enjoy sharing what is sent to me so everyone who reads, can also share in the kindness.

A Most Wonderful December Surprise—Sunday, December 18, 2016

After days and days of thick gloomy clouds the sky parted and the sun shone through giving us a December

A Gathering Chill—-Thursday, December 15, 2016

evening-pinkI had that one time shot of the perfect rising of the Full December Moon and the setting sun drenched mountains,  then it was back to clouds.

But last evening the the clouds thinned just a smidge

sprinkles-of-sunbeamsWith the air restless, edgy, and even agitated.

The clouds had thinned enough to show the disk of the sun, a pale blurry spot in the sky, but sinking lower.

Then the last rays of the sun burst upon the clouds in a luxuriously pleasant intense color of light

There is a feel of rain in the air today.  Although, the clouds are thick, they are high.  It’s not as cold as we’ve been having; I can smell moisture.  If it cools down we will have snow otherwise there is a strong possibility of rain.

A Setting Sun and a Rising Moon —Tuesday, December 13, 2016

december-full-moon-003

The Full December Moon rose so fast I didn’t catch it over the Eastern Horizon, until it was very high in the sky.

december-full-moon-002

But there is was…the setting sun splashing color on the frozen mountains, the mist-filled valley’s picking up a little of the color and that Moon!

That moon touching the rose colored sky; a most solitary, magnificent, sight on ice-cold winds.

Stunningly glorious!

From my world to your heart!

The Full Long Night Moon—Monday, December 12, 2016

The Moon 9

It’s been cloudy here.  Thick deep clouds.  Sometimes they clear and sometimes not.  So I have been unable to get a photo of December’s Full Long Night Moon.

The photos used in this post are old full moon photos, so please forgive.  If I can get a current one I will post it.

MoonriseThe full moon for December will occur TOMORROW!  Even though the clouds have been thick that wonderful, silver/blue light still flickers through, causing me to dance for joy!

You can be sure that Boomer and I will be out walking in the moonlight!  🙂

Sometimes the world outside is black and dreamlike—

Last night the sky was so full of clouds and mist so deep it was hard to find a shadow as Boomer and I walked along early in the morning of today I couldn’t help myself thinking we were walking into another world.

The time was about three o’clock with a  chill wind blowing.  The feel of rain was in the air.

I stopped by the hay stack yard letting the scent of baled hay fill my senses, reminding me of summer gone by.

Boomer stopped also, sitting at my feet looking out into last year’s pinto bean field a quizzical tip to his head

daddy

It was while I was standing there, leaning against the hay stack wagon I felt a shift in the very dark.  Suddenly the soft sound of the night was gone.

I stayed very still, Boomer also seemed enchanted into stillness.

Then the feeling vanished, like a shower from a falling star.

Walking back to the house, I stirred up the fire, got back to a nice warm bed; I realized how oddly comforting that space in time had been.  For I felt my parents were with me; Daddy put his hand on my shoulder and Momma leaned in an kissed me on my forehead.

Then the veil closed, and they were gone, leaving sadness and peace, all wrapped up as a huge smudged teardrop.

From my world to your heart.
