I just HAD to post again some photos of our Sunday flight!

Our part of California Mesa. The Swirly gray areas are the foot hills of the mesa, which then drops off into Roubidoux Canyon.
Okay. I’ll stop this now. It was just the neatest treat!

Early, early Sunday morning we received a phone call from a friend asking us to come fly with him.
Not being people who could turn down and invitation of such wonderful magnitude… we were off!
There (just above the wing tip), was Confluence Lake, in our small town of Delta, Colorado. You can also see the Gunnison River flowing toward Grand Junction, Colorado, and two large fields of sunflowers on the top of lower California Mesa.
We flew above the North Fork Delta County, and then he took us over Grand Mesa.
As time went on we traveled over the Book Cliffs (where wild horses roam) just above the city of Grand Junction, Colorado.
Then over the rugged and beautiful Uncompahgre Plateau (Un-come-pah-gray, with the accent on the pah)
The smoke from all the fires made the air a little hazy, but suddenly we were flying over our farm.
What a joy! What an amazing adventure and a delightful gift!

It rained off and on yesterday and then some into the night. The sun is out, our air is fresh and lovely, my lawn(s) are starting to green up, and I have lots of plants popping up in the flower beds! Life is good!
Terry plowed until it got too wet. So far there isn’t enough rain to cause our clay type of soil of harden into bricks.
Years ago we had a brick and tile making company that used our clay soil to make bricks. Today those bricks are much sought after as a collector item. That’s our type of soil…also our worry about rain.

We took a short ride. Just over California Mesa, onto the Highway 50 heading toward Grand Junction, Colorado.
Close to Dead Man’s Curve we turned off, traveled onto a rutted dirt road. We were taking a break from the ordinariness of every day. A small hike within the desert landscape that is home to rare plants, Indian rock art and rugged rock formation is all we wanted. Nothing more than an hour. There was still necessary things to do back home and evening was descending.
Above us Highway 50 was filled with fast moving vehicles traveling 65 m.p.h. I”m sure they never even looked into the rugged area alongside the highway.
That’s alright…works for me.
Way down the canyon road live fruit farmers …some of the riches and most delicious fruit comes from down in this canyon.
You can see the highway going from the point in the middle to the left side of the photo. The blue mountain in the center is Grand Mesa, the right side shows a part of canyon hill.
We didn’t stay long. Just a short hike.
Back home (after doing the last of evening chores) we sat on the patio watching the evening turn into black velvet skies, shimmering with stars and the early rising moon.
Sunday breaks are very necessary.

There is a hint of spring in the air!
The dogs didn’t want to stay in the house this morning, leaving around 5 :00 to hang outside and do dog things. I have asked them to come in a couple of times, but they just aren’t interested.
Today I head down to the Museum and Historical Society to work on transcribing one man’s many journals about his life. I’m on book three, there are 120 pages to each book.
He is one of the original settlers to our area, settling on Ash Mesa, which wasn’t named that when he applied for his homestead acres. It was so named after he applied — the mesa is named after him. His last name of Ash.
I am at the part where he and the other settlers of the mesa are starting to dig the Ironstone Canal to bring water to the mesa. (The Ironstone Canal is also the canal that brings water to our farm on California Mesa.)
Our sunrise this morning was outstanding!
It does have a hint of spring in the air….I do believe the dogs are on to something!
