Another Job Done Until Spring—Wednesday, September 30, 2015

DirtWell, we got half of the dirt cleaned off of the settling pond! (all the edges must be cleaned off so the pond can be re-dug in the spring.)

The rest will wait until March or early April, just before the water is turned into the ditches on that field.

Hay-CustomerBoomer had a great time…but nothing compares to loading up and ‘escorting’ in and out hay customers! ย Well, maybe right up there with the Mail Lady—and SHE always has a dog cookie with Boomer’s name written on it!

Evening-walkA good couple of days work! Nothing broke down, everything went smooth as glass.

You can’t ask for more than that. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

A Day of Catching Up—Thursday, August 20, 2015

We are picking up all the loose ends today–

BranchesTerry and I ran down early, early this morning to cut some tree limbs, which were too close to the roof on the other house.

CustomerA hay customer just left

Crop-beansWe checked to see how the bean crop was doing at the early morning irrigation –the pods are now at the green string bean stage…we need at least three more weeks of growing weather for them to ripen and strip.

Crop-CornThe corn is looking good. ย This is not sweet corn, but the kind of corn you have for cereal, corn bread, and animal food. ย Harvest for the corn is not until late October or sometime in November.

Crop-HayThe alfalfa is coming along nicely. ย It looks like around Labor day will be third and last cutting of hay.

Boy, the growing season is fast coming to a close!

CannasI’m pleased with my canna bed. ย This is where we cut down a dead pine tree this winter. ย I wasn’t really sure ย what I wanted to do with this area, but I think having the cannas here was a very good thing.

TubLike most of you, we are having cold temps. ย It was 47* this morning when we woke-up.ย Sure feels like fall. ย Although, we are NOT ready for a freeze. ย We need the heat to return to be able to get the crops to maturity.

Honey-BeeI guess I won’t worry about it…there is nothing I can do anyway.

Your friend as always,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Fridayโ€”Priceless

Hay-customerA HAY CUSTOMER IS HERE!!! DAD!!! YOU HAVE A HAY CUSTOMER!!!ย  BARK! BARK! BAY! HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWL!!!

Waiting

Hi, Ya, Sam!ย  Been catching any mice lately?

Wind

Your fur is getting messed up Monkey?ย  A bit windy out here for those of you with long fur!

Ohโ€ฆlook here is Mom.

Whatโ€™ up, Mom!ย  What cha goโ€™na do?

To-bed-1โ€œAre you up to putting the farm to bed, Boomer?ย  Come onโ€ฆwe will go on out and get started, Dad will come up when he is done helping loading hay.โ€

To-bed-2ย Mom reached down and picked me up and sat me down behind her on the four-wheeler.ย  (Mom has to pick me up and put me places ever since I blew my knee out.ย  My knee is healed now, but neither she nor I want it to get hurt againโ€”so she always picks me up and puts me behind herโ€”or sits me in the back of the pick-up or on the pick-up seat.)

Wait-2

“WAIT!!!!” Monkey yelled…..”I WANT TO GO!”

“No, Monkey—git! ย It’s too far up there! ย SCRAM!”” ย Finally Monkey ran back to the yard.Wait-1

Up we went to gather all the siphon tubes and stack them so the cows wonโ€™t stomp on them and destroy them.ย  Cows are like that ya knowโ€ฆif itโ€™s interesting they like to walk on it to see what it will do.ย  Cracked siphon tubes in hooves is not a good thing, nor is it something Mom and Dad want to deal with either.

Hot

It was hot workโ€ฆeven if the sky acted like it wanted to rain, we all worked up a sweatโ€ฆMom even took her coat offโ€ฆIโ€™m glad I didn’t have a coat like thing on, I was already hot!

BirdUp one field, down another we went, picking up dams and tubes and straightening up anything that might get in the way of the corn combineโ€ฆthen I SAW IT!!!

HALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Looks like the coyotes got a Big Birdโ€ฆsniff, sniff..snuffโ€ฆ

โ€œBoomer what you got there?โ€ Mom asked, as she walked up the last of the dirt ditch.

โ€œOh, sometimes nature is so cruelโ€ฆmy, that was a big bird, I wonder what kind it was.โ€

hidden-coyote-1

Dad arrived about that time—โ€œCoyotes!ย  They’ve gotten very brave againโ€ฆI saw evidence along the equipment area yesterday.โ€

Pink-1

Yeah, Dadโ€ฆ.Mom and I can hear them when we walk at night.ย  Mom and I think they are hanging out down around the other house.ย  They wouldn’t be at that houseย if Hank still lived there, but since he doesn’t they arenโ€™t afraid!

And we see scat everywhereโ€ฆcoyote poop!ย  I sometimes stop and pee on it.ย  Makes me feelโ€ฆGOOD!!!ย  Tee hee.

โ€œCoyotesโ€ฆnever a good thing.ย  You stay close by, Boomie, even if itโ€™s daylight you donโ€™t need to be scaring up some coyotes in their denโ€ Mom admonished me.

Not to worry Mom.ย  Since Fuzzy isn’t here I try to stay within eye-sight of youโ€ฆI know you donโ€™t have anyone to protect you now.ย  I can still get the news, but Iโ€™m the only dog now, so I know you need me to take care of you.

Gathering-1

โ€˜Come on, Boom, letโ€™s go.

Fun

We got done faster with Dadโ€™s help.ย  A nice little ride on the four-wheeler will cool you down.

Mouse-bucket

Then we need to go check all the water traps for the miceโ€ฆthe mice seem to be rather bad this year also.โ€ย  Mom lifted me up, started the engine and off we took right behind Dad.

iopย Wind in your ears and cool air on your furโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆpriceless!
