The Adventures of TLC Cai-Cai on Friday—-Farm Adventures, Those Who Live with Me, Friday, June 10, 2022

We have a chipmunk…

actually, two that live with me in the farm yard.  But Mom can never seem to get a photo of them.  These Chips are the descendants of two Chips

who were friends with Sam-Sam.

And Fuzzy.

And Boomer.  Now their great, great grands are friends with me.

Since Mom can’t get a photo of them, she is posting one she saw out on the farm—where I NEVER go.

We also have several ground squirrels who share the chicken feed with the chickens.

Once more these are the descendants of Stanly and Stewart and their lovely squirrel wives—Shirley and Shelia.

It seems whenever Mom is around and the squirrels are around, she never has her camera.  BUT— out on the farm, Mom saw a squirrel hiding behind his tail.  So cute-thought Mom.

We also have a family of bunnies.

Momma bunny told me it was much, much safer to hang around the farm yard, than the farm proper.  She knows, she was over by the equipment area when she grew up.

It was a dangerous and very scary place to live.

The Gambol Quails have migrated in to share dinner with the hens.  They are extremely fast.  (and, of course, Mom never has her camera when she is working in her yard.)

The pair of Gambol Quails have BABIES— that run and dart very fast.  I have a goal….no! No! NO!!!! I don’t.  Never!  I can’t even think of that goal!  EVER!!!!

One day I was a tad bored, Skitter Bug was close, I was bored so I hopped out from under the peony bush right on her back. (Mom saw).  Mom screamed NO!

She didn’t need to scream.

Skitter Bug turned around very fast and pecked the heck out of me, then when I fell over, she flew up and pounced on ME!

Let’s just say—hens are off the grocery shopping list. (Although to be fair to me, I didn’t want to eat her, just play with her.)

We have

birds,

and birds

and

lots of birds.

One day we had a hawk…

WOW,  THAT BIRD IS BIG!!!

I had to hide in the wood pile.  Mom was outside and saw the hawk.  She yelled at the hawk—“SHOO! Go away!

(I’m not sure if this IS a hawk—any ideas?)

These animals in the farm yard are NOT your dinner.”  The hawk just looked at Mom, but he did fly away.

So—that’s the working list of animals in the farm yard.

Plus, Me, Dad, and Mom.

(We also have a badger…Mom…did you hear me?)

There, Just There, Glimmering in the Sky — Thursday, June 10, 2021

Last evening, as the day softened into the evening, I saw a Rip in the sky

Or possibly something ghostly–glistening in the sunlight and dancing along with the clouds

The tiny white speck is a jet going west

It stayed a long, long time, never changing until a cloud passed over it and I forgot to look again.

I wonder what it was. 🙂

Sometimes I Struggle with Feelings of Dread —- Wednesday, June 10, 2020

I don’t know why I struggle with dread/ or the feeling of impending doom

I really don’t know why.

I even looked it up on the internet and found out that elderly people do struggle with feelings of despair.

Maybe it’s a subtle worry about aging and the future

Or the fact, as a septuagenarian death is looming ever closer,

Not arriving quickly, but not slowly either

So I am always rather amazed

Not stunned with amazement

But pleasantly surprised

When I look to the heavens and find residing there gently

Are diamonds….adorning the ether and my eyes—taking away the cheap feeling of impending ruin

All I have to do is Look

There within the white clouds, riding high above the breeze is that ancient symbol of hope, a promise of blessings, and the belief life is truly made up of roses and laugher.

All I have to do is look; give Thanks for what is to come,

All will be what it is supposed to be —- and that, in and of itself is Good.

From my heart to your world,

Linda

Some Things Clutch at My Heart —- Monday, June 10, 2019

This little cat, once a feral, now a very good farm/house cat

Loves Terry…she watches for him,

Always keeping track of him, wherever he might be

All I have to do is find Mindy and I know where Terry is working.

But sometimes, I also love to gather her up

And pack her around …it seems even I can make a pleasant little smile on her kitty face.

Summer’s Scents and Sounds (Although Summer isn’t here until next week )—Sunday, June 10, 2018

We are way too hot and too dry.  I know that other states are in the same scary place in time. Although I know I didn’t want rain during haying season, rain would be a very good thing now.

We are checking and changing water on a constant basis.  Terry is doing better, but I still must go with him to set the tubes.  Walking on a slanted ditch bank is just not possible for him at the moment.

The summer flowers are starting to come into the forefront of the yard now…with the spring blooms fading in the hot dry heat. (YAY! I LOVE SUMMER!)

Lady, that most wonderful mule, has gone to summer camp to work with Shannon’s friends on their huge cow ranch and with their Outfitter mules.  She had gotten very restless and in need of ‘something to do’.  Velvet and Cole just love her.  Cole is even riding her instead of one of his other mules.  Cole only rides mules.   They say she is a very good mule.  I’m so glad Shannon was able to spend the year helping Lady learn that all humans are not mean and cruel.

I miss her sweet mule kisses and when she would talk to me as I brought her apples. Still, I think it is a good thing she has a job to do.  She was VERY fidgety.

Our days are quiet, every day filled with the smell of roses

The sun pouring down, tingling upon or skin, glittering on the water, running or still.

As bigger and brighter colors fill my yard sparkling in the light.
