Chapter Ten

“Well, as you can see, Mindy,” I said, pushing Mindy behind me a little, “dark on the farm is way different than dark in the farmyard.”

“MEOW!!!” Mindy sobbed. “Let’s go home, Boomer.  I want to go inside and lay on Dad’s legs while he watches TV and gets lots of pets.  It’s SCARY out here.”

Just then we heard HOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO. Mindy jumped three feet in the air and yeowel!  “OWL! We have to RUN!”

Mindy started to fling herself out onto the farm road when I quickly put my front left paw down on her back. “NO! Stay right here!” I bayed.

“STAY!”

“I hear an owl, Boomer.  I have to hide, I have to get to the house, I have to get OUT OF HERE!  An Owl tried to get me once, but I got away.  That is why I have my whole right side missing on my mouth. OWL!!!”

Mindy squirmed and wiggled under my paw. Thankfully I had her smashed flat so she couldn’t get those wicked claws up and get my leg.

“I Know, Mindy! I know.  But you are safe right here with me.  You start running crazy and the owl will chase you on very silent wings, swoop down and your gone—up into the sky, then over to their nest where the little owl chicks live.”

Mindy looked at me with terror in her eyes.

“Stay right here, right next to me, and I will get you home.”

Mindy stopped wiggling and sighed.  “Okay, Boomer, my life is in your hands.

“Good.  I can protect you from pretty much everything but a coyote.  If we run into a coyote or three you run as fast as you can for home.  I try to lead them away from you.  But until, or if that time comes, you stick right by me.”

With that Mindy and I started walking.  We have a long way to go, but I feel pretty sure I could get us home.  We have the weeds along the ditch bank to hide in and if we are super lucky, we can crawl into some of the equipment (if we make it that far).

It was about that time, while we were walking next to the ditch, not on the road, but close to it:

Freddy Fox zoomed right in front of us!

Mindy and Boomer Have an Adventure Chapter Six

Chapter Six

I followed Mom to the kitchen door, she opened the door, held the door opened for me and said: “Do you want to come in, Boomie?”  I just looked at her and wagged my tail.  Just the tip of my tail.  I really didn’t want to come in and I didn’t want her to force me to come in.  At the same time, I didn’t want Mom to be mad at me for NOT wanting to come in.

“That’s okay, Boomie.  You don’t have to come in.”  she shut the door and was gone.

Now, it seems I was doing something before Mom came along.

What was it?

I put my nose to the ground and sniffed around trying to jog my memory.

“OH! YES!”  Mindy and I were going to have an adventure together.

“MINDY!” I bayed.  “MINDY!”

Nothing.

No Mindy.

I started searching here and there and everywhere.

UP one side of this and down one side of that.

Over to the fences,

down the roads,

up by the grain bins.

No Mindy.

No Mindy anywhere.

This is NOT good.

I think I had better sit down and ponder this problem. What I think I need to do is THINK LIKE A CAT!

OOOOOOO!  Now, this is rather hard to do.

Thinking like a cat.

Hummm

OH!  There is Dad—Mindy always likes to be with Dad.

I shoved off my old beaglie body, making it trot over to Dad.

Where is Mindy?  I looked and Looked and LOOKED!

No, Mindy.  Anywhere. No Mindy hiding close by or even far by.

I just sat down in total discouragement.

I really need to figure out where Mindy is-Night is coming on.  Night in the winter where hungry predators stalk.

Darn!  I have to find Mindy!  I got up and started walking to the grain bins to head out onto the farm.

If she isn’t in the farmyard, then she must be out on the farm.

Meanwhile …….

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— We Take A Golden Walk, Mindy Kit-Kat, Friday, November 15, 2019

Hello!  It’s Me, Mindy-Lou, Min-Min, Kit-Cat Brown.  Today is MY day to visit with you!

I had a very busy night, last night.

I checked out this and that and all things

around Mom’s yard.

Then I came in and took a very long nap right on my bed on the BIG Bed.

Then I got up and ate lunch headed outside; I had lots of stuff to do before it got dark.

There is lots of work for a busy kitty on the farm.

BUT the best part of the whole day yesterday WAS a walk with Mom, Dad, and Boomer

in the Golden light.

You see when the sun started sitting the whole world turn GOLD!

It was beautiful!

So Beautiful

I had to run and jump and skittered here and there and everywhere.

Mom said the Golden Light made her feel the same way.

(Dad and Boomer said they don’t get it…it just felt cold to them and time to head back inside.)

But Mom and I got it…so I guess it must be a girl thing…loving that Golden Light.
