The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-I Get a Treat

Tiny-Footprint-2I head out every morning to see whom and what has been walking on the farm.

Tiny-footprint-1

I know, I know…I could be outside GUARDING the farm, but Mom likes to have me sleeping inside.  She says I need to be guarding the inside of the house, so everything can sleep safe.

The-Reporter1

Anyway, there is always lots to know about once I get out the door.

I know, I know, I could go out the door much earlier than I do, but Mom likes me to have breakfast first.  Besides she says 5:30 is early enough to go check out the morning news.

Sam-the-Protector-3

Now Sam-Sam, he has a hard time sleeping all through the night.  Many times I’ve been woken up by Mom and Sammy.  Sammy yowls when he wants to go outside…that wakes up the dead, Mom always says…Sammy’s yowling.

Sam-the-Protector-2

Mom says Sammy is our guard cat, although she really doesn’t like Sammy to go outside at night (Sammy will be 17 this year), but Sammy never listens to her and demands his way ALWAYS!

SKUNK!

So let’s see…oh, this makes sense everyone in the house smelled skunk around 4 or so in the morning.

Busy-Sam

Sam was out by the canal…I know, I can tell by the smell of his footprints.

Busy

There was lots more smells, but I won’t bore you with them.

Boomer-andI

After lunch Mom and I had work to do.  Mom drives and I ride.

Then later on in the day Mom asked if I wanted a treat—you bet I did.

She put me in the truck and off we went!

Car-Wash-1

TO THE CAR WASH!  I LOVE going to the car wash!  I love every minute the whole thing is happening.

That was a cool treat!  I thought I was going to get a dog cookie, but instead I GOT TO GO TO THE CAR WASH!

A smiling, tag wagging,

Huge Push and Insane Cold Wind–Wednesday, November 12, 2014

We are making a huge push now to finish up the house and get it winterized for the winter.  The wind that arrived around six in the morning is miserable and cold.  It’s so cold it takes your breath away and feels like your skin is starting to frost bite.  (I’ve read this wind is much worse in Wyoming and other places….brrrrrr.)

Evening-2

Terry and I wired the kitchen yesterday.  We have some more electrical work today, then I will dust, mop and vacuum and wash the windows (maybe) and I’ll be done.

I still have the trim to paint on the west and the north of the house, but I got everything done on the east and south.  I’m thinking that I’ll just have to wait to finish those sides of the house come spring…it’s for sure winter is here—EARLY.

As for the fence…we still have to work on the fence, but that will be after the corn is done and before the cows come in—the cows arrive sometime in January. There again I might not be able to get it painted, but at least we will have the places that need repair fixed…I’ll just have to wait on the paint for a warm day.

The weather is just too nasty to start combining…rain and snow are expected in here tonight to last until Sunday….Terry isn’t even going to even think about combining until this storm moves out.  So far no one else has started here, only the ranchers, and they feed with high moisture.

Well, off I go now, Terry is warming up from getting the stuff ready to take to the other house, while I finish this up.

Waiting

Sammy usually loves to be outside, but today he ran out did his business; then waited for me to come to the door and let him back in.  He is toasting by the fire right now. 🙂

Sending all of you warm and toasty thoughts and wishes for a good day!

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer—Summer

It’s the good old Summer-Time!  Mom and Fuzzy and Sam and I are all happy, happy, happy!

Orange-at-NightAlthough, I’ve had a little set back…I got some Cheat Grass in my ears, it’s been a real mess.  My ears are starting to heal now, but it was a bit of struggle there for some time….I still have one ear that’s infected, but we are gaining on the problem.

Sam-Helps-Mom-2Sam the cat and I work with Mom wherever she is working.

Sam-helps-Mom-1Sam likes to ride in the wheelbarrow here and there, even if it is full of weeds and such.  Me, not so much.  Mom has put me up there; I always jump right out!

Fuzzy-cooling-down

Fuzzy hangs out in his dog house lots when it get really HOT, or he lays under Dad’s pick-up.  Sometimes he follows Mom around the yard, but not like he used to.  That’s okay, Mom will say, as she stops and pets him on the way to or from…’if you don’t want to come to with me, I’ll be sure and go by you’!  And so we do many, many times a day.

Junk-Yard

Mom and Dad loaded up a trailer load of metal to take to the crushing place…I wanted to go, but they didn’t invite me.  Sigh!

Orange-at-night

Guess what!!!!

Frog

Last night we saw frogs on the ditch bank!  Scared the fur right off me!! They were hoping here and there and everywhere!  I had to give one a great sniff…that’s when he plopped right into the water and peaked out behind a weed!

Dad, Mom and I gave a big laugh!  I haloooooooooooooed at the frog, but it didn’t really do anything…just stayed still.  I guess he felt safe right there.

Fuzzy missed out on the whole bit of excitement, ‘cause he was waiting back on the four-wheeler.  When I told him…he looked a little green, but then decided it was okay.  He would have had to get down and walk the whole long, long way down the cement ditch to see the frogs—-and he said it just wasn’t worth the walk.

Evening-and-Corn

We all rode home in the growing night.  We took the long way home.

Wind in your fur and bugs in your teeth!

NICE!!

Have a Great Summer Day Everyone!

The View from Upstairs — March 26, 2014

Yesterday was such a busy day I had a hard time getting everything done.  I was upstairs finishing up some things on the computer, working feverishly to bring completion to some projects that have been in limbo for some time.

Light-eGradually the day started to end, the sun sinking behind the rim of the Uncompahgre (un-come-pah-gray — accent on the pah) Plateau lighting up the canyons that border Highway 50 –Escalante, Dominguez, and others.  Thinking I had better get up and turn on a light I raised my eyes from the computer to see a stunning play of shadows and sun rays spilling across the yard and into the fields.

More-light-pI grabbed my camera and headed toward the alcove window, allowing the sinking sun to send healing light to my eyes and my head.

SamyAs I sat there watching I saw Sammy-Sam hunting along the canal bank…what a good hunter he is.  In January he turn 13 years old and still does his kitty duty.  Last fall Sammy ate something that made him very, very ill.  He must have eaten something that either was poisoned or very sick itself.  Since that time Sammy has been a little on the fragile side.

GAs I watched two late straggler Canada Geese settled down on the old corn field to spend the night.  They settled into a soft little spot in the dip in the ground fluffing up their feathers for a night of rest.

VisitorThe earth, the sky and the things that live all around us are amazing, really.  It is up to us to stop…look…listen…to be aware.  If we do these things then we become one with all, desiring to be good stewards of these wondrous gifts.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Through the House’s Yard

Just before first light, that sky that has almost has a feeling of light coming.  You know the sky, it’s still black and very dark, but your body knows the light is supposed to start showing up…well; I was sleeping away, just dead-to-the-world, really asleep when Fuzzy jumped up and headed outside.

Freddy-Fox-2

He jumped up so fast it woke me up!

Before I could get fully awake Monkey the Cat and Sammy the Cat ran past me growling, eyes big, heading toward the couch where they perched up on top, looking out the window, still growing.

I KNEW I was missing out; I jumped up and shot out the back door,

HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLL

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF

Yip,yip bark, bark….

Fuzzy and I were OFF!

Freddy-Fox-1

Mom wasn’t far behind me; I struck my baying pose and pointed toward the picket fence…

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Then I looked at Mom, she was flying out the door, pulling on her work jacket just as fast as running in flip-flops would let her…………….BARKKKKKKKKKKKKKK,  HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW

Mom didn’t run after Fuzzy and I (we were heading out into the old corn field by the house as fast as our legs could go).  No, Mom was heading toward the poultry house!

Fox-on-the-road

Well….too late.

Fuzzy and I trotted back to Mom…she was standing at the window talking to Tom who was standing IN the window, on top of the nesting boxes, letting out shrill gobbles and flapping his wings onto the glass.

Whew!  We were all hard at work!

Mom reached down and gave Fuzzy and I lots of pets, told us we were very good guard dogs, opened the door and gave a very agitated Tommy some pets, told him he did a great job protecting the poultry house, then we all went back inside.

Before we went in I followed the trail all over the yard…something wild this way ran…I tried to tell Mom.  Mom does pretty well about understanding, but she really didn’t know what ran through the yard.

Freddy-Fox-3

Only we animals really know, and we don’t have real words to tell Mom.

Back inside I heard Mom tell Dad everyone is okay, she isn’t sure what went through, but whatever it was it was very exciting.  It also had everyone very upset.

“Well, could have been a fox or a couple of coyotes” replied Dad. “We’ll have to be on the look out to make sure they don’t come back.”

We will be on the same look-out, Fuzzy and I said. We are the GUARD DOGS!!!

(The photos are of a known fox (or foxes) that travel through.  No photo of whatever it was this time as it was actually in the yard of the house and by the back porch and car port.)

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Oh, by the way, the other guy’s Insurance Inspector came up yesterday afternoon, looks like we are going to get our gated pipe replaced and all of the fences.

Keep your fingers crossed, that is what he said anyway.  Now we just wait and see if it really happens!
