We warmed up yesterday just for about thirty minutes…then it dropped rapidly and we froze back up.

Warmer

But for that short length of time the snow on the carport started to melt and drip off.

Drops

(You can see the two tiny drops against the background of the metal building, I hope)

I tried really hard to get a photo or two of the delightful melt, but they didn’t turn out very well…:)

More-Drops

Oh, well…short lived, but very enjoyed.

I hope your Sunday goes pleasantly for everyone.  Fuzzy goes in for his operation Thursday morning.  I am concerned that I’m doing the right thing…I sure hope so.

Dreaming

Yep, Christmas has just past, and yesterday was the New Year…but I’m ready for Spring.

Very ready!

Temps were -10* this morning with -18* for tomorrow….this is what I HATE about winter…the bitter cold.

But, my mailbox is filling up

DreamsI sit dreaming about warmth, vibrant plants and flowers… Where I’m going to put them and how they are going to look.

Then what I’m going to do with them after they come into their own.

Hooray for SEED Catalogs!

Over the River and Through the Woods to Grandmother’s House We Go

Over the river and through the woods,
To grandmother’s house we go;
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh,
Through (the) white and drifted snow!

While out getting fire wood, the dogs and I could hear excited voices!

Grand-Mother's-House-we-go-

Over the river and through the woods,
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes and bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.

Boomer started a HOOOOAL so Fuzzy and I had to go look.

Walk-2

Over the river and through the woods,
To have a first-rate play;
Oh, hear the bells ring, “Ting-a-ling-ling!”
Hurrah for Thanksgiving  New Year’s Eve Day!

There coming across the fields were three little children and Hank!

House

Over the river and through the woods,
Trot fast, my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground,
Like a hunting hound!
For this is Thanksgiving New Year’s Eve Day.

It took them awhile to get to us, because there were things to do….like throwing snowballs, romping with Hank, and making snow angels

To

Over the river and through the woods,
And straight through the barnyard gate.
We seem to go extremely slow
It is so hard to wait!

Gradually, they were there…running and laughing; cheeks and noses red

Over the river and through the woods,
Now Grandmother’s cap I spy!
Hurrah for the fun! Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!

Shadows-1

Hurrah for the gift of family!

Happy New Year’s Everyone!  2013!  We hope each and everyone has the best year ever!

2012 in review December 31, 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 83,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report.

It’s cold here…12*, but still dogs need to walk, and I need to walk, and the little kids like to get out of the house.

While coming back from the upper end masses of Sand Hill Cranes flew overhead….

Cranes-in-flight

My still shot was not very good, but at least you can hear their sound.

What a wonderful couple of days….full of food, family and gifts.  My brother and his wife stopped by on their way to sunny California, their car was full of gifts for us.  A complete surprise and much enjoyed.

Pink-1

The snow we had is melting down here, but in the mountains it looks like it is staying.  As I write this we are in another winter storm watch…Terry and I agree we will take it if it means snow in the mountains.

Pink-2

Our soon-to-be  daughter-in-law arrived last night from Grand Cash, Alberta, Canada for a week of visits.  She said we are much warmer here. 🙂

Pink-3

Hope your holidays were wonderful.  I’m off to visit your blogs now and then back to   packing up all my Christmas decorations.

We are heading toward 2013…  Boy, does time fly!

We are still cold here.  I know it is to be expected since it IS December after all.

Gunnison-River

The Gunnison River is starting ice up.

Our days are awaiting the return of the sun…if we have sun now it is thin sunlight, doing nothing to warm up the air. At some point in January we will have what old-timers called–THE JANUARY THAW–a false feeling of spring.

Nothing to get excited about, unless you are like me —once that happens I get HOPE!

Ever since the 17th of December the sun has been stuck in it’s day length of  9 hours and 27 minutes, with the last day of this reading to be on Christmas Day..then we start gradually increasing.  GRADUALLY is the term until sometime in January.

Evening

BUT…..changes are taking place —the sun is starting to get UP just a tiny bit earlier staring on the 18th of December…just one minute at a time, so on the 19th the sun gets up at 7:26 then on the 21st the sun rises at 7:27, which goes starts to increase every two days and going to sleep just a tiny bit later.

Slowly, slowly, every so slowly the earth starts to make it’s mighty shift – thrusting itself back toward spring.  By December 31, 2012 we will see a day length of 9 hours and 30 minutes, with the sun rising at 7:30 in the morning and setting at 5:00 in the evening, extending our day to 9 hours and 30 minutes!

January and February are bitter cold months, but the days are longer, which helps.

Which, for me, really helps!

Almost Christmas Eve!

Oh2

Merry Christmas,

Linda

A Nasty Winter Storm Arrives

The dogs and I walked around the place yesterday, just for the fun of it.

Storming-on-the-dobies

Just to get out of the house and ‘do’ something.

More-Storm

Although, we were in a winter storm warning and I could see weather all around us, we were not being effected.

But I could see it coming in.

Winter-storm-1

Then it hit….

Bitter cold wind, gusting to over 30 m.p.h. all most all of the night and still going strong. Not much snow, but the snow we have is flying all over the place.

Winter-Storm-4

Terry had been working on the ditch, but this took the farming urge right out of him 🙂

Took the need to get outside and ‘do’ something different right out of the dogs and I!

Winter-quarters-1

Of course the cats don’t ever really like to go outside anyway.

I think it will leave here sometime late this evening with temperatures falling way, way below zero.

Winter-storm-2

Baby, it’s cold outside! (By Frank Sinatra and Doris Day, of course, although, I know many others have also sang this song.)
