Two Gifts —- Wednesday, December 27, 2017

Our daughter Kimberly, and our son-in-law, Cliff came out one evening after their work and brought to us two quilts Kimberly made for Terry and I.  One for me–the one for Terry

The time and the work on these had to be immense!

Cliff posted the above photo of Kimberly and Gypsy working on the binding way into the night.  🙂 On his FB page.

I had to smile!

Thank you, both, for such amazing gifts!

The Journey without Directions—Tuesday, December 26, 2017

The Year 2017 is ending.

Bringing with it’s closing days — clear skies with very cold air.  No snow.

The moon is growing toward fullness, but for now it rises brilliant in its’ growing toward’ stage; in skys violet-black flooded with stars.

Then swings down in to the west long before morning; leaving the high vault of that bowl, which we call sky dark blue and chilled.

The soil here is dry.  Extremely dry, but works for walking on and not tracking in mud. 🙂

Cold air, brilliant sky…gradually we end this year.
A year, which begins, as all other years…a blank slate, going forward without a map, going forward into the unknown…

Grateful me– very grateful to be alive.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Fifty Years on December 21, Sunday, December 24, 2017

“Maybe the Universe fights for souls to be together.  Somethings are too strange and strong to be coincidences.”–Emery Allen

On December 21st, the shortest day of the year, and the Equinox of Winter Terry and I

Married!

For this momentous time our children all got together and gave us a Anniversary Trip to the Wiesbaden Hot Springs and Lodge in Ouray, Colorado—complete with 90 minutes massages and money for eating out.

They splurged on the Sun Room HoneyMoon Suite

And a special soak in the Lorelei Private Hot Spring Pool.

Shannon did all our animals and chores for us while we were gone.

Fifty Years and great kids…there really isn’t much more anyone else could ask for.

From our world to your heart,

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Cow Check

There are one hundred and eighty three pregnant cows on our farm.

183!

Now THAT’S a lot of cows.

Every day we go for a Cow Check.  Dad says it’s mostly a fence check, but Mom says it’s a cow check…for me it’s a check on the manure to see if there are still little bits of corn in there………….

Of course, when that happens…me checking on the cow patties I always get

“BOOMER! GET BACK HERE!  NOW” from Mom.

Dad thinks I’m funny.

I come back to Mom, but I take my ever so lovely time getting there.

Then when I get to mom she picks me up and hoists me onto the back of the four-wheeler and tells me to STAY.

And she says—“Your breath STINKS”!

I don’t get why she gets so wound up about it, but oh, well, whatever.

Then we ride all around the whole place checking on everything.  The cows are really good about staying in, but with 183 cows the feed starts to slim down.  When the feed slims down the cows start reaching over the fences until they stretch them and break them.

So far so good.  Only the electric fence for the equine pasture was broken.

Once they got that fence down the electricity didn’t work anymore so the whole herd could tromp into the horse pasture and have a WEED eating field day!

Which they did.

So now the equines run with the cows and the cows eat up all the weeds the equines don’t like to eat.

Pretty much a win-win.

Except Mom, Dad, and Shannon had to go roll up the electric fence and take down the stakes.

And Dad had to fix the corral gate where the cows pushed and pushed and shoved on it.

Now what about Me?

Mom made me stay on the four-wheeler the WHOLE time they worked on the gate and the electric fence.  SHISH!

Then when we get back we sometimes sit by Dad’s fireplace and just rest.  Mom says Dad has done a nice job out in the shop.

Just being with Mom and Dad where ever works for me!

The Reflection of Wonder—Tuesday, December 19, 2017

While out repairing the electric fence the cows so delightedly tore down—I couldn’t help but enjoy the cold touch of the almost winter breeze as it cooled our late fall land even further.

It was on the last string of wire, when Shannon stopped and asked her Dad to look at into the tree.  Hearing them talk I ha to leave my fencing duties to see what they found.

Another wonder of our magnificent earth…a huge wasp nest!

What a cool thing to find!

All About Lady—-Monday, December 18, 2017

Shannon has done a marvelous job with the much abused Lady the mule.

In the beginning no one could get close to her.

No one.

And for sure someone wearing flannel.

But gradually, over-time, lots of carrots and apples and loves and pets she has come to trust again.

Daily brushing are not tolerated but (actually) enjoyed. Putting on the saddle is not a sign of something ‘wicked about to  happen’ but an adventure with a much loved human.

Romeo and Lady are best of friends…if one goes somewhere the other is close behind.  They sometimes have little squabbles and then they make up.  Alway, always they are close together.

Lady even lets Terry and I pet and love on her.  She has learned…it’s all about love here and she is finally safe.

Which is a very good thing.

The Cold of Late Autumn—Sunday, December 17, 2017

We are in the last of what we can do this fall on the building.  Terry finished adding in the wood stove this Friday–

While I was helping him, I saw our youngest grandchild matching her Grandfather in time and space—

Only her activity was a tad more easier. 🙂

Then as the chill wind from the Uncompaghre Plateau picked up its normal speed for evening…

We all gathered around the woodstove in the wood working shop.

Outside the the wind gusts whirled across the corn field lifting and swirling last years golden leaves, the winter birds sang their evening song, as they looked for the perfect field to bed down in for the night; the shadows lengthened into the lavender light as the earth cooled.

Shadows filled the building (although there ARE lights); we stayed beside the fire.  Grandpa, a little darling granddaughter, Boomer and I…the outside wind sounding like angels wings heralding comforting peace.

From my world to your heart,

Linda
