Blessings—-Wednesday, November 23, 2016

the-edge-of-clouds-002

My blessing (anyway)

The earth and the sky

My destiny, of which I am still learning of daily

The sounds all around; creaking, flapping, sighing

rainThe hard brilliant lights of silver stars, and the shining of the moon in black velvet shadows

Plus all the people—family and friends who fill my life!

I am most blessed.

With heartfelt thanks,

Linda

Through the Snow and Rain and Snow and Rain—-Tuesday—November 22, 2016

christmas-tree-001

Our weather has been a tad wet side lately.  Snow and rain, then snow and rain again.  Although, the snow is not here, it is surrounding us on all the mountains and the lower mountain towns: Paonia, Crawford, and Cedaredge.

So….I decided to put up our Christmas tree and decorations.  This year I dug out the white tree and sorted through all my lights and ornaments trying for a white on white look.  Terry said it didn’t turn out too bad. ( He was afraid they would all blend together.)

I’ll try a night photo next…for daylight I think it turned out fine.

Love,

Linda

On Those Long Dark Nights—-Monday, November 21, 2016

my-hand-work-001

The sunsets so very early now, that the time change has occurred; making the days very short and the nights ever so long.

my-hand-work-002So for something to do, while watching TV I try my hand at different types of handiwork.

Don’t look too closely as there are errors.

It does fill my time nicely, though.

When Time Strips Away Everything—Sunday, November 20, 2016

golden-light-001

Our family, in Battlement Mesa, came the other day, bringing with them only one grandchild.  The other two have developed into a teenager, with friends, and a tween with babysitting jobs.

fluffy-corndogsStill the little one loves to come.  There are many things she likes to do, here, on the farm

Like gathering cattails, which she calls: “Fluffy Corn dogs”.

“Come with me, Grammy! she called; practically vibrating with eagerness, to slip and slide down the hill, into the dried cattail area.

We walked over the hill to that special spot where the cattails stems brush lightly together in the gentle breeze.  She gathered many fluffy corn dogs breaking them open to fly away in the wind allowing the little cattail seed to caress the earth as they landed.

Time moves on…always.  As a parent/grandparent you look at each one of your children and your grandchild and wish with all your heart you could take away everything harmful and make their lives perfect.  But you know you mostly can’t–they have to do ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ is— by themselves.

But for this tiny moment of time I enjoyed the essence of life a grandchild brings.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

When Out on the Farm—Thursday, November 17, 2016

‘Twas the night before Yesterday, when out in the farm
deer1
A tiny young deer came looking, looking
deer2
She was walking so softly, so softly with care,
deer3
Her Momma had said be gone —not  here;
deer-4
Being lonely, so lonely she came searching, searching wanting to be fed;
deer-5
When out next to the trash can there arose such a clatter,
deer-7
Boomer sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
deer1
Away, away out the back door he flew
scram
Scaring a raccoon so lively and quick.
deer3
And then, in a twinkling, the tiny young hooves
scram

Following the raccoon with hooves that go click!

Love,

Linda

P.S.  We think the Momma deer has told this young doe it’s time to leave.  She is very determined to hang around our farm house and in the farm yard (there go all my flowers, but oh, well).  Terry thinks come spring she will move back up to the Upper End or over by the equipment.  Until then she is determined to hang around here.  Really not very afraid of Boomer.  She is afraid of the lights suddenly turning on.

P. P. S.S.  A pretty bad poem. Chuckle!

Gay November Sunshine—Wednesday, November 16, 2016

sign-of-the-times

Yesterday, it was just Boomer, myself and the two cats:  Sammy and Min-Min.  Terry was away doing important things not connected to the farm.

blue-skies-3.jpg

It was a beautiful bright fall day, the air was crisp and warm and the sky the most amazing blue.

as-the-sun-setsThen as the sun set the sky turned into the color of a joyfully blowing leaf..causing me to rush to different parts of the yard to capture the golden light

golden-lightThen the sun sank below the Uncompahgre (Un-come-pah-gray, accent on the pah) Plateau and the first stars of the evening popped out. The air was decidedly cool.

Today we woke-up to clouds, with a promise of rain in the air.  The weather people are saying to plan on rain and light dusting of snow, in our area…more snow in the higher areas tomorrow.

We are hearing the Upper Country and the Mountains are very dry…moisture will be a good thing.

Kate’s Australian November Moon — November 15, 2016

Kate sent me a very cool moon shot all the way from way down there—a shot to share with you!from-kate

You and I had the same idea last night. I only had my phone camera, and it was a wet and very, very windy night, so this is all I got. But there she is, smiling down through the clouds. Not a Frosty Moon, more a Storm Moon.

Glorious Moon Light!—-Monday, November 14, 2016

“Most glorious night!  Thou wert not sent for slumber!”–Lord Byron

wood-pile-2

I climbed to the top of the woodpile…(down there on the end where there are four logs stacked on each other)—I needed to get above the neighbor’s corn field to see the eastern sky, you see.

novembers-super-moon-007Then There it was!  That most stunning Super Moon!
novembers-super-moon-011I stayed up on the wood pile— balancing carefully, while Boomer sat below whining, with Min-Min Cat winding her way up the very tall pile to be close to me.

novembers-super-moon-risinIt rose quickly showering the earth, with its silver glow, edged in pink from the setting sun.

novembers-super-moon-as-itStill lucky me— I got to see this wonderful, and unusually close to the earth moon setting in the western sky.

Waiting for November’s Full Moon—Sunday, November 13, 2016

almost-full

All month long I wait for that month’s full moon.  I even have an app that tells me the exact hour and time of what the moon is doing.

I so love being in the silver light of the moon.

light-on-the-tree

This time of year the air is thinning down,  and the sun heading to a different corner of the western sky…making the colors more on the shade of ‘pearl’ than vibrant.

As the sun rushes, to the end of the day the light causes the shadows to melt into the gathering darkness.  And I delight in the starkness of the sun rays catching on objects on the earth.

mowing-the-lawnI still have yard work to do.  Although I leave the flower seeds (and some cases the weeds I call flowers) to feed the birds through the winter.

Mornings are always full of frost…which [sometimes] causes, those who name moons, to call the November moon the Frosty Moon.

almost-a-full-moonJust hours now and the moon will be full.  I’m going to TRY to capture a great moon shot tonight.  Wish me luck.  (Even if I don’t get the image on my camera, it will be okay…I can still enjoy it’s stunning light!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

AND AWAY WE GOOOOOOOO—-Thursday, November 10, 2016

Image result for And away we go

As Jackie Gleason used to say!

on-a-ride-1Mom and Dad and I are B.U.S.Y!  Now that the farm harvests are all done, the water is turned off, the canal is dry, and everything is frozen— Dad announced it was time to go work on the other house  at my oldest sisters.

Shannon wanted a cupboard and a new fan over her cooking stove, so Mom and Dad loaded up all the materials, the tools AND ME!

Off we went — they get to work and I get to play with Etta, Shiloh, Black Dog, Houston and Rocky.  They worked and I played!  Pretty nice trade off!

on-a-ride-2

Then it was into town to get some ‘stuff’.  I get to go into Tractor Supply, pretty coo!  Me and a HUGE store.  I’m always on my leash and I’m a very well-behaved dog, so I get to go in.

Then back home Mom and Dad and I continue work on the building Dad and Mom tore down…they are at the stage where they are cleaning up everything and getting the forms fixed for the cement to come.

Dad says maybe next week we can pour the cement.  Here again they work and I gather all the news I can.  Min-Min cat hangs out with us looking for mice.  When she catches one she always brings it over for Mom to give her a big pet and tell her what a ‘good job’ she does.

Sam-the-Protector-3

Sam-Sam just picks out a spot in the sun close by and naps.  But  it is a nap with one eye on everything we are doing.  Sammy is ancient around 17 years old, Mom says.

sunset-1

We all work until dusk…which is early now…the sun sets before 5 in our neck of the world.

Back inside it’s SUPPER TIME!!! For all of us!

“This was a good day”, Dad announced “We got a lot done.”

boomers-cute-noseI’m always up for work adventures!

Aren’t you?
