Winter—December is Always Winter (here) — Tuesday, December 3, 2024

Baby, it’s cold outside. Our nights are getting down into the teens now—14* one morning.

The sky turns purple just before the dark fills all the corners.

Winter—December through the end of February.

“Winter is ….a quiet house in lamplight, a bright stars in a clear night, the roar of the wood-burning stove.  It is warming the teapot. It is reading quietly. It is thick socks and the bundle of a cardigan.”—Katherine May

We Came to a Huge STOP— Sunday, December 3, 2023

Friday we woke up to this

It snowed most of the day—then started melting in the late afternoon

Then more snow overnight

Stopped we are for a spell.

The snow is lovely, wet, and heavy.  A gift—we will take.

The harvest will happen again—as soon as we dry back out. 🙂

On a Day When the Stars Seemed to Wheel in Place —- Thursday, December 3, 2020

My thoughts and feelings were like a wind storm full of snow.  Then —–

I opened my email to this!

Linda,

I thought of you when I saw this rainbow while we were out birding, and I thought you might need one with all that is going on these days.

Take care,
Marianne

So there on her soft rainy day, a gift to me, and to you, appeared.

Thank you so much, Marianne

I always love a Rainbow! 🙂

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Looking into the Realm of Stars —- Tuesday, December 3, 2019

There in the pale sky, just right there two stars —slowly drifting toward the Uncompahgre Plateau horizon

A thumbprint made its sudden appearance one day…

Last night’s evening clouds thick and dark and threatening

Snow on Grand Mesa with clouds hanging full and damp

Walking back from the equipment area I saw another sundog

The sunlight casting a prism in the sky!

Linda

A Small and Welcome Snow—Monday, December 3, 2018

“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a Magical Event.  You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not Enchantment, then where is it to be found?—J.B. Priestley

The day is still cold enough the remnants of last night’s small snow is staying on the ground

We have been so terribly dry that even this small snow is a wonderful gift.

The Light of Almost Full Moon — Sunday, December 3, 2017

Hanging there in the light blue of the sky, glittering like a HUGE pearl, surrounded by pinks and golds

Was December’s gift to us of a Super Moon.  Gradually a deep pinkish gray painted cloud slowly floated over the giant milky glow

Covering that amazing orb.

Still……

The pearlized light seemed to whirl out of the air and brush each and everything it touched with brilliant radiance!

Lucky us!

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Corn Report—Thursday, December 3, 2015

30The deer are eating the corn, yum-yum.  Not a good thing.  Good for the deer. but not the bottom line.

29Still I don’t think we are going to be hurt!  It would take more than the small sized herd we have living on our place.

Corn-1We did have a nice melt yesterday.

23

A few of the farmers have started started corn harvest.  Just a small amount of farmers. Terry is thinking possibly Friday we can start…of course it depends on the melt, the mud, and the moisture content of the knerals.  I’m sure when everything gets just right for us the rest of the the farmers will be ready also.  🙂

That is when the lines are long, long, long at the elevator.  Still, it will mean Corn Harvest (and paycheck)!

Today we are building fence.  Seems like there is always something that needs done. 🙂

I hope your day is going well for you. As always, Your friend on a western Colorado Farm,

Linda
