I Ran Across These Photos a Day or So Ago —– Sunday, June 23, 2019

I had to smile great big at this little series of photos for a long time ago

Grandpa was holding Blade and baby Tally

He speaks to Tally who looks at him in a very puzzled way

Then Grandpa looks up at something.  Blade peaks around the blanket; Tally is WIDE-EYED at Grandpa

Blade covers up his head, Grandpa looks rather content, but baby Tally looks at me just stunned!

I’m sorry but I had to laugh out loud at this little series of photos!

The Things We Truly Love — Wednesday, August 23, 2017

“The things we truly love stay with us always locked in our hearts as long as life remains.”–Josephine Baker

As I said in yesterday’s post, the grandchildren came for two days this weekend, then the two oldest went home and the youngest got to stay “ONE MORE NIGHT”!

She was more than willing to make the night water checks

We are so blessed!

Our grandson has grown so much!  He helped load out hay–one hundred plus bales, and anything or everything else we might need help with–and, of course, helped Grandpa change water, even way in the dark.

I was so surprised to see that Blade has grown so tall over this summer…almost as tall as Grandpa!

Time flies if you measure it by children.

When Time Strips Away Everything—Sunday, November 20, 2016

golden-light-001

Our family, in Battlement Mesa, came the other day, bringing with them only one grandchild.  The other two have developed into a teenager, with friends, and a tween with babysitting jobs.

fluffy-corndogsStill the little one loves to come.  There are many things she likes to do, here, on the farm

Like gathering cattails, which she calls: “Fluffy Corn dogs”.

“Come with me, Grammy! she called; practically vibrating with eagerness, to slip and slide down the hill, into the dried cattail area.

We walked over the hill to that special spot where the cattails stems brush lightly together in the gentle breeze.  She gathered many fluffy corn dogs breaking them open to fly away in the wind allowing the little cattail seed to caress the earth as they landed.

Time moves on…always.  As a parent/grandparent you look at each one of your children and your grandchild and wish with all your heart you could take away everything harmful and make their lives perfect.  But you know you mostly can’t–they have to do ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ is— by themselves.

But for this tiny moment of time I enjoyed the essence of life a grandchild brings.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Christmas Blessings—-December 27, 2015

CraigWe loaded up the car, took Boomer to Shannon’s and WENT TO CRAIG, Colorado for Christmas!

SnowingEven though it was snowing here.  What’s a little snow when there are grandchildren at the end of the drive?

I drove…that is saying lots, since I do NOT like to drive on bad roads.  Terry drove home…it was much, much worse then.  But we caravanned with our son and our son-in-law and daughter from Grand Junction so that helped.

Snow-WalkWe had a great time.  I went with Linkin to see the pigs (then Uncle Evan went with Linkin) the pigs had lots of company off and on for Christmas.  20 inches of snow and -18* with a high of 12*.

The photo up above shows Linkin walking on her ‘short cut’ to the house from the pig barn…’Come on, Grammy!  I have a trail, just follow in my foot steps.”

“Okay”, I replied.  First step into the trail I sunk up to my knees…I’m just a wee bit—tad bit–a HUGELY bit bigger than an eleven year old.  We both had a good laugh.

Snow-MailThe grandkids and their Dad built a snowman around the mailbox…a surprise for the mail man.  I thought it was cute!

KidsWaiting for the big day!

We brought back the two girls. Blade and his Dad are going to very cold Bronco game on Monday, then they all will come here for the New Year!

Some gifts really are priceless, don’t you agree!

Step Through My Gate — Thursday, August 7, 2014

GateThank you for stopping by!  I always love chatting with you.  Sometimes I’m a little slow getting your comments answered, but I do try to not go too long.

This August has been very busy (so far) with the two oldest grandchildren staying with us for the week.  We have worked at making their days special and full of memories.  We are exhausted but pleasantly so.  Today their Momma comes back to pick them up.  She is bringing the other little grandkid with her so we will have all the family for two days.(Well, accept for Kelly he is extremely busy with his new job.)

The  coming week to we have to ourselves.  That is good…we need a rest.  Then the two little girls will be back for a week then school starts for all of them.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting, or pushing the like button, or signing up to follow the blog! I will be visiting with you very soon.  Until then I hope you enjoy my contribution to the Teresa’s Thursday’s Good Fences and Gates.  Please hop over and visit Teresa’s blog and check out all the other ‘great finds’ located there.  Also, if you would like to add a cool fence or gate just post yours on your blog then link the post to Teresa’s post about Fences and Gates.

Very Busy Saturday — March 9, 2014

All our days are seem to  be very busy, but now that late winter is here it seems our days are getting much more active.

First thing in the morning we headed off to Loma—outside of Grand Junction to the last consignment sale of the winter (which we attend).  It was stunningly packed with people and items to sell.  Packed!

Sale-2After waiting in line, for some time, Terry got a number and we headed off to see if there was something we just could NOT live without.

Sale-1

The place was packed with ‘stuff’, equipment and implements.  We didn’t see anything we just Had to Have.  After watching a few things  sell we headed back home.

That afternoon it was time to start the creation of the water trough. There is  a ditch which leaves our neighbors farm onto our farm…once water touches your farm that water is now yours and your responsibility–unless it is in the canal.  (The water company has a right-of-way through all farms along the route from the reservoir to the river.)

In order to not have the irrigation water from our neighbor’s ditch wash away the good soil and create large crevasses and groves Terry has created a cement trough to a pipe.  It was at the end of the pipe we were starting to get a huge mess.

Yesterday afternoon Terry and I cemented the end of the pipe and built a water trough that will protect the ground around the pipe.

WT2

I was in charge of mixing the cement (520 pounds of cement)

WT1

Terry was the cement artist.

We got done about dark.  This doesn’t look like it took much work, but believe me it was.

Our oldest granddaughter and a little friend of hers walked over to see what we were doing and stayed for a time ‘helping’.  Of course, when you are 9 helping means writing in the cement!  🙂  By the time we were ready for the ‘helping part’ they had wandered on home by way of the whole farm — counting baby calves and seeing if they just ‘might’ get to see one being born.

Evening

That evening Linky (our oldest granddaughter) and Tally (our youngest granddaughter) came back to spend the evening with Grammy and Grandpa…when asked if Linky and her BFF got to see a calf being born she had to reply no…BUT they did see a calf that had just been born and was getting all the yucky stuff off by the Mom.  Her BFF was suitably excited about the whole process.  I wonder what her parents thought…..

We took the little girls to eat at Wendy’s and then up to Uncle Evan’s so they could play with his two little dogs, two cats, one turtle and watch the fish swim in the aquarium.  Then we stopped by Aunt Shannon’s to check out Tommy the Turkey and his new girl friend/wife, the hens, her three dogs and one cat.  Then we headed home to watch cartoons.

Monday Terry starts more tractor work.  The cows leave. -Mr. Davis and Theresa have already taken out the ones who still have to calve.- Monday they will remove all the mom’s and the new little ones, leaving us cowless until next February.  I will work on the other stuff of getting a farm back up and in the production mode.  I guess you could say we  will begin in earnest on Monday.

Off now to do all the stuff that is hollering to me to get done!

Have a good one!

Your friend,

Linda

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — Summer Work

Golly Geez, this summer work fun!

This is my second summer here and I love every second of it.

We do ‘stuff’ all the time!  ALL THE TIME!!!

Well, I know we do things in the winter, but this is just so much better!

For Instance—-

We, meaning Mom, Fuzzy and I, went down to Shannon’s to work in her yard.  Shannon was building some raised beds so Mom went down to help her and to put the soil in the beds while Shannon went to work.

I played with Rock, Balou, and Houston in their yard and Fuzzy stayed out and helped Mom.  Mom made me stay in the yard because it has a fence and I have a great curiosity to smell lots of things so she put me in the yard with the others so we could play.

Shannon’s cats helped Mom.

Sunny hung around the old stump where some dried catnip was…he sure likes catnip…rolls in it and eats it and everything.  I took a huge sniff of the stuff….it only made me sneeze, so I don’t get the fascination.

Willow just lay down by Mom and Fuzzy he doesn’t get that catnip stuff either.  What he likes is to just be next to people so he can get a pet and a rub now and again.

That was cool….we were there for 2 ½ hours.

Then when we got home we went to the pinto bean field to change the water…I always like that!

Mom tells me I can play around the area, but if I hear the four-wheeler start I had better be back as fast as my legs can take me —  if I want a ride home.

There were a couple of little girls out in the field with us, so that means Hank was with them…we sniffed around lots of stuff, then I headed off to the equipment area, and Hank hung with the folks looking for mice.  Fuzzy stayed right with Mom and helped her chase water.

I was a little slow getting back to the four-wheeler so I ran in right behind them…well, not to ‘right behind’, but really close.

Then later on Hank (he’s in the photo with the others in the truck) came over to build bottle rockets with Dad (Grandpa).  He walked over with his family.  They walk down the bottom of the bean field, and then up the side between the bean field and the corn field…..it’s a short cut they like to take to get from their house to our house.

Hank and I played run, and chase until we got too hot and tired.

Sammy hung out with us

But Monkey spent most of her time trying to get back inside so she could lay around on the carpet.

Mom told Monkey she could be outside with the family, it was good for her.  She didn’t listen.

After that Mom, Dad, Fuzzy and I went back out to set the water for the night.

The sunset was really cool.

I stayed right with everyone so I could ride the four-wheeler back in.  I was a little tired after all the running I did today.

I sure enjoyed this day…Good night everyone!
