Fall is in the Air—Monday, August 24, 2015

Rabbit-BrushNo matter how much I wish to ignore the signs…they are here.

Fall has arrived!

The nights are cooler–so much so I must so I must shut the windows in the house by two in the morning.

AlmostThe Rabbit Brush is starting to bloom, the trees are sporting lighter leaves, even yellow in some places.

FledgeThe last of this year’s bird babies are rapidly growing and changing.  One set fledged yesterday…to the relief of Sam-Sam.  These little ones were on the back porch light, causing the parents to very aggressive to Boomer, Sam and Terry and I.

bWe even have a few leaves starting to leave the trees.

BrillantNo matter that it is still August…Fall has arrived.

Stamped Upon the Heart and Brain—Thursday, August 13, 2015

xSometimes in the evening (after irrigation is done) we sit, Terry and I, upon the outside chairs.

Song-1

If we get in Before the sunsets.  Last night was one of those nights.

Song-2

We relaxed and let the evening take over…the little swallow family was busy feeding the tiny mouths for the long, long rest until morning.

The hummingbirds zoomed by us, filling up for their night, Boomer lay on my feet and Sam-Sam our outside kitty sat on Terry’s lap purring.  In the bathroom window, Monkey the house cat (because she eats birds) lay stretched out longing to be outside with us.  But birds come first on our farm.

Song-3

It was one of those moments when you are aware of your own heartbeat.  A watching.  A space in time, which stamps itself upon your heart, brain and soul. A moment instantly recalled in every detail for the rest of your life.

A Jewel Sitting in the Middle of Work—Monday, June 1, 2015

CanyonWe, Terry and I, are at a wee breathing spot…a little time in-between.

All the children and grandchildren have left— going back to their every day lives.  We so Love them dearly.  But when they are here they are the focus and the intent for the day.  All we possibly can do revolves around them.

Pink-and-Blue-Cloud

We also had the most wonderful gift of old friends (who are traveling through) stop for the evening. We talked forever outside drinking iced tea, as the day waned into the evening, watching the swallows flying high and low catching mosquitoes for their supper.

DarklyAs dark descended we gathered up our glasses and came inside continuing to tell stories from the past, stories that are burned into your mind, memories that make you laugh-out-loud, just like you did those many years ago.

Orange-and-ApricotGradually the glooming turned into true darkness, so I turned on a lamp or two.  Still we sat comparing concerns over the economy, where the future is for our children and grandchildren, plans for the near future for ourselves and thoughts about ‘next year’.

AprictoThen it was truly dark.  All of our senior citizen eyes were wanting to close, yawns were being discreetly stifled, bodies wanting to slump.

It was time to leave.

Later, much later, Terry and I were sitting up in the dark of the night; the silver moon lighting up the room.  We sat side-by-side talking about the past week, all the hugs and loves–the swarm of activity —-  the grandchildren’s parents coming to  spend the night and head back home with our precious little ones.  The good friends we have made over the long, long years of our live.  Friends, to not only share memories with, but future plans, we decided—it’s okay be old.  It has taken a lot of living to get to this place, but with that ‘lot of living’ we’ve had some pretty darn nice things happen.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday — The Swallows Left

Yesterday, while Mom was washing the windows and the screen for the Living Room and the Dining Room the Swallows left the corn field – flinging themselves off the top of the corn tassels and into to the air to land on the electric lines way above our heads.

They gathered in huge bunches.

Mom hurried in to get her camera.

Whew

But well ….. I barked and barked at them — and they flew away.

I was sad.

So was Mom.

Mom said she wasn’t mad at me, she was just sad because when the Swallows leave the Hummingbirds will be next. After they leave it will start to freeze and the snows will come with huge winds that rip your face off your head.

She gave Boomie and me a huge hug and went back to washing screens.

We’ve been working with Dad in the New Hay field for several days now.  The hay just wasn’t drying down.

Checking-the-hay

This is Dad checking the hay to see if it is dry enough to bale.

Six

Yellow Strips where the hay laid until it was dry enough.

Five

Altogether he has ten loads!!!   COOL!

He is hauling the last as I write this!

One of the raccoon’s ran through the yard last night….

Boomie took off after him, so today Boom says his knee is hurting rather more than usual.

Hop  Mom gave Boomer lots of pets and a dog aspirin in a SAUSAGE!!! (I got one also, but I didn’t tell Boomer!)

Well, the day is warming up nicely and I see a really nice hole that has my name on it.  Boomer is resting his leg, but I think I’ll rest my eyes!
