Good Morning Everyone! Sunday, February 1, 2015

Good-MorningGood morning everyone!MovingAfter two days of heavy gray clouds blocking the sun and sending life-giving moisture into our rather dry soil, we woke-up this morning to a very beautiful day.

Another blessing in the storm is it  stopped our work on the removal of the wood from the two trees we had cut down.  I think that was a good thing.  It’s better to have a break in the work than to break something on your body (all three of us, Terry, Scott (our neighbor) and myself are over 65–just saying.)    If the weather stayed nice we would not have stopped…we needed to stop. A three day rest is a good thing (we always rest on Sunday, only the things that MUST be done is ever accomplished on Sunday.)

Tree-workOur neighbor is taking the wood for his outside furnace so we don’t have to haul anything far.  The wood from the front tree is way too wet to burn this year, but the wood from the lightening struck tree is dead.  This is a win-win for Scott as he has dry wood to finish out the heating season and wood to start the next heating season.  It’s a win-win for Terry and I because we have help cleaning up the mess AND we know that the wood is being put to good use instead of just dumped at the Upper End.  The GIANT logs we are taking to the Upper End to make hollows for fox (or whomever)  have a place to hide.

Tree-stumpScott and Terry both have tractors, Scott has forks on his and Terry uses the bucket.

ME

This leaves me to do all the brush work, rake up all the chips, and to chain up the logs.  We are making huge headway.  As soon as the ground dries enough we should be able to finish up next week.

We better finish up next week, since Hank stopped and said he was going to be bringing in his first year heifers and his second year cows probably around Thursday.

I just about have the chips and bark and branches out of the corn field gate, which is a good thing…I wouldn’t want any of the cows to get something stuck in their hooves.

If we can get the big stuff and the field stuff done before the cows we can finish up the back yard after the fence is built.  Lots of pressure right now to get stuff done.

THEN I told Terry it will be time to put the new roof on the tile house, after which we will be close, if not already started, on Spring farm work.

I think the time of February is going to fly by!

Many of you have emailed asking me to post a photo of the skyline with the trees gone.  I shall…I want to have all the trash cleaned up before I do.  Surprisingly (so far) it doesn’t look bad down there.  Misty wants us to keep the lightening struck stump in the back for Kelly to build something for the kids to play in, so we will.  Kelly built a tree house for the kids in one of the other trees; having something cool in this one will add to the fun of the back yard.

The front tree will be gone…I’m thinking I might put a planter where it was and fill it with something colorful.  Maybe.  It all depends on how it looks.  I might just fill in the spot with grass.  Grass is always nice on the eyes.

Good-NightLook at this sunset last night as the storm broke up and left us!  The colors are amazing for this time of year!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Gift to Me From Kate, and Now to You —- Wednesday, June 18, 2014

back-forty.jpgHere is the point of the Cactus Hill…a rocky point on the south west side of our farm.  This is the Back Forty—Those two trees, a dark green and a grey green make the boundary of the south side of that part of the Farm.  That dark wasteland is the west side.  When we had cows they loved this part of the farm second best…first best was the Upper End.

Catus-2The cactus are just starting to bloom up there…a peach colored,

Catcus-8And hot pink right now.  The yellow ones are a bit later.

GrassThe grass at the Upper End –also at the south end of the farm—is thick and full…

More-GrassSure makes me miss cows.–That’s Terry coming back from checking on a drain ditch.

Anyway after a night of horrendous  55 m.p.h. winds we woke to a beautiful morning and only 20 m.p.h. wind.

I’ll take it!  It’s cooler but nice!

Then when I came upstairs to read my emails I found I had a gift from Kate Chiconi

Double-rainbow,-Dorrigo,-NSA double rainbow all the way from, Dorrigo, New South Wales, Australia!

It’s so nice to have a rainbow after wild storms!  Even if this one didn’t appear out my window, it did appear as a gift to me from a friend way around the world!

Thank you, Kate, for giving us this wonderful sign of Friendship and Hope and Beauty!

Your farm friend,

Linda

P.S.  Don’t forget, if you have something you would like to share—story, photo, rainbows, animals,  or birds.  I’m always interested in what you send me.  If you don’t mind I would love to share them with all of those who have subscribed to my blog.

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Mom Said

Barking-All-NightAUGHHHHHHHHHHHH!  Fuzzy took us outside!  To sleep, I mean.  I go in and out as I please but for sleeping I much prefer INSIDE, unless, of course, yes…THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON OUTSIDE!!!

Fuzzy said we have to go!

I said………. “Oh, please NO I love hanging out in the house!”

Fuzzy told me I needed to toughen up as our job is protecting the property…grudgingly I said… “Okay…”

Walking-by

So out we went.

Mom said if it rains or snows we are always invited back inside…I’ll be sure and remind her!!!

We’ve always got lots to do—

Belamb-1

Now that the cows are gone our cousins can come over and walk with Fuzzy and I on the farm.

Dirty-Cat

Sam hangs out with us, lots!  Sam and I love, LOVE, to roll in the dirt…see this dirty cat walking by, that’s Sam.  I get so full of dirt that the groomer says she is always surprised at how dirty I really am.  She says Fuzzy is never really dirt.

HUMMMPH!

I’m not dirty…I just enjoy rolling on the grass!

Racc

The Raccoons keep on coming by…MOM SAID this is NOT good.  Raccoons love to eat trash (although, our trash is so they can’t eat it) and they really like a good chicken dinner.

Hen

(All of our chickens are locked up at night, tighter than a fist, so they are safe—Mom said.)

And they are mean!

The-Nose

Mom said:  “You boys have GOT to get your raccoon friends out of the yard and on to other pastures…you need to send them to the upper end.

You know what….THAT IS A BLAST!  Fuzzy and I are working really hard to get these rascals on out of here and up to the upper end.

We do have to be careful, because raccoons are mean…they will turn around attack if they want too…but so far we have it figured out….start running toward them barking, they head to corrals, by that time Dad is outside and Mom is right behind…when they come out they turn on the big yard lights, which scare the raccoons.

Five days now and no raccoons, which is good, once the corn gets to growing we won’t have them in the yard!

Better

Yesterday, Mom came out the door, hollered “Let’s go” and off we went.  Going to town is always a cool treat!  Sometimes we get concerned that going to town means:

  • The Groomer
  • The Vet
  • Or some other thing we won’t like

But most of the time it just means GOING TO TOWN!

Yippee!

After we got home, Mom said: “You boys can come on it, I need to work on some stuff upstairs and you might as well help”, we thought it was a very good idea.

Best-Friends-2

We are great helpers and we always do what Mom Says!

Boomer

The Adventures of Fuzzy and Boomer on Friday —Doing Better

Today, in just a little while, I go with Mom to get my stitches out!

I’m ready!!!

Those things itch!  My back paw fits right where they are and it feeeeeeeeeeeeels so good.  Then Mom grabs my back leg and tells me to stop, “can’t do it right now, ole boy”, she says.  And pets me until I forget I had the itchys.

My tumor was right behind my shoulder blade and had grown into the shoulder blade area which is why I was having so much trouble walking.

But not anymore!

Out-for-a-walk

Every day we go for a walk and I made it clear around half the place yesterday.  Who says old dogs need to be put out to pasture?!

Cows-1

Mom, Dad, Boomer and I were looking at all the really early spring work (or is it late winter work?) Dad and Mom want to get done before the farming season starts.

Birds-and-sunset

Boomer and I were looking for anything of interest!

Doves-in-a-tree-1

We saw lots of birds.  Some Mom was able to get a photo of but mostly she didn’t.

More-walk

Boomer had to run off to the upper end and over to the back 40 (I sure would have liked to go) and we all heard him YELP.  He hollered at me the rabbits were hopping about, but I just couldn’t do it this time.  Next time I told him, not today.  You give chase for both of us!

And he did.

Off-to-bed

We were up there a long, long time.  When we started back home the cows were heading up to sleeping draw to spend the night.  They were early because a storm was coming in and they wanted to bed down before it hit.

Hens

I was glad to get back home too…that bedding down idea sounded really good.

Resting

Boomer said he would take a nap with me; that’s what buddies are for.

sleeping

Well, anyway Mom and I are off to get the stitches out!  Everything is looking up.
