About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! Going Full-Tilt and Needing to Stop—Tuesday, August 6, 2019

Less distractions from the things that matter

Sometimes my life becomes so full I want to run away.  But, actually, what I want is to find a routine and a bit of down-time.

I have been wanting to paint the inside of my house since March.

March!

Here it is August and I’m still trying to figure out when to start.

So I suppose, instead of letting my worry about getting started run me ragged

Today, in just a very few minutes, I will begin.  Then by tonight, I will know if my shoulder will accommodate the up and down of the roller.

Where Do Childhood Dreams Go? —- Sunday, August 4, 2019

“Things you are passionate about are not Random They are your Calling.”—By Fabienne Fredrickson

Sometimes I wonder.  Where do all those fantasies we dreamed of, as young children,  vanish too?

They seem to become lost somewhere between growing up and growing old

I have spent some time pondering this: looking back upon some of my childhood dreams and desires

Their radiance of possibly more like a thin vapor in my old age

Still, within the scudding, mundane chores and routines of every day

They surely are there in the shielding cover of adulting.

Sometimes I get a wee spark of that time, of years long gone, when the possibility of life and being alive and creating a space in the time called living shine forth once more.

A place where it is easy to listen to the voice of your childhood dreams

Where the shaded windows of your own soul wake up and you remember and feel the excitement all over again.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Off on an Adventure Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten

While I was sleeping, I dreamed of MOM!

  Mom and I doing things.

You know just stuff.

I also dreamed of barking the mailman down the long lane

and baying at the UPS driver.

I even dreamed that Mom took me to that big friendly to dogs store and let me sniff around while she did some shopping.

That dream woke me up with a start.

I MISS MOM! I thought.

Here I am way over here and Mom is somewhere way over there.

WHY did I think I wanted to go on an adventure in 90*+ weather, coyotes loose on the farm and me in an elderly stage of life?

WHY?

As I was sitting there in the shade Harry the Hawk came coasting by. I just watched him.

I sorta, kinda, don’t really like Harry.  He likes to eat my friends or potential friends.  I really didn’t want Harry to see me…who knows he might want to eat a really sweet, fat, wonderful, old beagle.

I scooted back under the brush a little further.

Harry flew on.

Good!

About that time I noticed we were experiencing raindrops!

YAY!

Raindrops are good.  Cools down the earth and the sky.

Looking around I spied a RAINBOW!

Yippee! I shouted. Bouncing right out from under my bush and bounded over by the equipment, “A RAINBOW!” I bayed

“A RAINBOW!”

“I like rainbows, also. Beagle dog!” a tiny little voice called to me.

Turning around I saw a member of Chip’s family.  “Hey! I haven’t seen you before.  Are you new here?” I asked.

“Well, kinda new.  I’ve been living with my Mom and three siblings. Mom told us we could all go out and play now.  We didn’t have to stay inside with her all the time.”

“Pleased to meet you….” I paused.  “Ur, umm…I don’t think I know your name.  I’m Boomer and you are?”

“Beatrice—Mom says the name means Bringer of Joy in our language.”

“Well, now, isn’t that just perfect.  All things are starting to look up…I met you, the Bringer of Joy and I saw a rainbow.”

Beatrice gave me a huge smile, “I have to go now, Boomer Beagle Dog, it’s starting to get night and Mom told me I had to be back in the nest before dark.  She said danger lurked out of the nest in the dark.”

With that, she flicked her tail at me and was gone.

Hum.  I slept for a long time, I mused.

Dark.  I’m not looking forward to another night out here, but I guess I slept way too long today and here I am.

In the darkening evening.

BUT

I Saw a RAINBOW and I Met Beatrice.  Things are looking up!

I trotted down to the little creek and got a good drink of water, then put one paw in front of the other to head myself home.

Apricots and Raccoons—Thursday, August 1, 2019

I’ve picked and canned all the apricots I could ever need or want

I gave jars of rich lush jam away and

And still, I have apricots!

They are way up there in the top of the tree, where I can’t reach.

the ground is rather dappled with a rich golden glow  🙂

Nightly we have visitors.  Their bright  chitter, chatter wakes us up as they feast on the summer globes of goodness

So I sat up a game camera just so we could see

The exhilaration as the furry creatures feast

This delightful smile says it all!

Wild Wet Beating from the Sky —- Wednesday, July 31, 2019

You can’t Calm the Storm. What you Can do is Calm yourself. The Storm will Pass. (Unknown)

A small teasing wind started blowing around Two O’clock yesterday afternoon

When suddenly the clouds burst open

Causing Terry to come in as quickly as possible

Still not soon enough

Wet was the word.

Perfect for the earth, the plants, and the air!

In Time for the Destiny of Winter — Tuesday, July 30, 2019

“Embrace and love your body.  It is the most amazing thing you will ever own.”  Author Unknown

We started hauling our winter’s heat yesterday.

We only got one and a half cords.  4 and 1/2 to go.

Today I rest.

Well, not rest, exactly, but I will do other things: like weed, iron, and water— light work.

I need to wash windows, but it just isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

I also need to paint the inside and outside of the house.  I’ve needed to do this since March.

Maybe in August.  Maybe.

I will just have to wait and see.  The firewood must come first.

Our Thunder Comes from the West — Monday, July 29, 2019

We have been having afternoon/evening/nighttime showers.

They are random and quick.

Building up; crashing and booming with lightning and thunder

It’s amazing and marvelous all at once.

Friday night in our town, they had an outstanding experience of an inch of rain in 30 minutes.

Where we live we got lovely, just right, rain.  The air clean and refreshed. The air sparkling.

A Tiny Bit of a Slow Down—Sunday, July 28, 2019

We seem to have been extremely busy of late

So much happening, good times

And a wee bit of work-over-load

So, today, I am slowing myself down

I feel immensely tired for some reason.

See you in tomorrow morning!

Off on an Adventure Chapter Nine

Chapter Nine

We trotted here and there. I checked out the news (that is what I really, really love to do.  Check out news), and Kit snacked on a mouse or two or three or more.  I stopped counting.

Gradually the day started lighting up the sky.

“Whew! I’m tired.” I told Kit.  “It’s been a very long, long night with just way too much adventure.  I need a nap.  And soon!”

“Me too,” Kit replied.  “It’s my time for bed. I sleep in the day and hunt at night.”

“Okay, let’s head over to the equipment area and hunker down under a brush over there or under the stack wagon.  There got to be lots of shade under the stack wagon and we aren’t far from water.  Water is just right there in the little creek running behind the hill.”

With that, we were off.  Trotting in a straight-line way back to the equipment area.  It took a spell or so. We saw the renter show up with his dog, Achilles, then we heard the renter leave.  By the time we finally made it to the stack wagon, it was starting to get hot.

Kit and I stopped at the little creek, lapped some cool, cool water, then trotted up the hill, crawled under the stack wagon, turned around three times.  We each turned around three times, Kit by the left tire and I closer to the end of the stack wagon where air could reach me.

Meanwhile on top of the grain head, not far from us…was STANLEY.

Stanley was helping himself to the seeds Mom puts there to feed the wild creatures. She would always say, as she out handfuls of seeds and nuts “It’s good to feed a little treat now and again.  We all need treats.”

My eyes watched Stanley for a little while, but my mind and body were so tired and the day so warm…I fell asleep.
