Hemp—What I Know —- Sunday, October 13, 2019

Before the air came curling the breath before our faces—some of the big hemp fields were harvested.

The plants cut and then baled, they will be dried in an oven-like thing so mold cannot form.

It is my understanding that the plant is cut when the CBD oil is at it’s highest.

But what happens to the miles and acres of plants which were NOT harvested before the killing freezes appeared?

We heard that there is a possibility the plants can now be used for seed.

I hope so because there are more fields NOT harvested than were harvested.

A lot more.

It is the Way of Things—Thursday, October 10, 2019

The clouds were beautiful against the vivid green of the alfalfa just two days ago

So here are the moments, of the last few days, of summer/early fall

On we go into Indian Summer.   The memory of hot summer days dancing in our imaginations.

From my world to your heart,

The Sand-hill Cranes are Back —- Wednesday, October 9, 2019

The Sandhill Cranes are back (this is an old photo)

(Another old photo)

A pair flew over my head as I was shuffling around the trash cans yesterday morning

(From my archives)

They hollered and squawked at me as they flapped vigorously toward the Upper End of our farm

If was a happy feeling to see them arrive.

Since yesterday was lovely warm in the afternoon. We decided to take one last spin in the corvette before we have to put the top back on.

(Photo from last year)

We drove around and looked at the hemp farms…harvest has begun.  I wonder if the killing freezes damages the CBD oil in the plant? I will let you know if I find out anything

Part of my yard, now a beautiful memory.

The End —-Tuesday, October 8, 2019

This morning we finished up all the irrigation on the farm.

All the pastures are wet, all the alfalfa fields, and my lawn

I got all my hose picked up and stored for that long winter season

I cleaned out the woodstove and readied the kindling and logs for that time when neither Terry or I can’t handle the cold house anymore

A major winter blast is heading our way.  The weather people say Thursday the daily high will be 49* —Winter is coming, just on the edge of sight. Floating in the jet stream ready to develop into reality.

Forcing us to wave warm lovely days farewell.

The Surging Wind has Brought Us Colder Temperatures—-Monday, October 7, 2019

We have had wind for several days now, making setting tubes a bit of a challenge

Although the daytime temperatures have been warm enough we didn’t need coats in the middle of the day

The winds gusted and moaned through the standing corn, across the rooftops and slammed into standing buildings

swallowing all of us in fine coats of dust.

The wind flailed the electric fences

and drove leaves, weeds and other loose things across the land and into our hair and eyes.

Sunday day we were still experiencing a wee wind, one that had a tendency to make us shiver.

I hint (just a hint),  of winter coming.

That Rippling Sensation on a Ditch — Sunday, October 6, 2019

So far I have saved five (5) Woolly Bear Caterpillars from ‘death by drowning’ along one of the cement ditches

Three of them were actually in the water, curled up in little balls, floating along in the pounding waves.

They would have died if I had had not picked them up and put them onto the (now harvested) pinto bean field.

The bands on the caterpillars are suggesting we are in for a long winter.

Jolly, that thought just leaves me white-eyed.

It’s freezing here.  Mostly light freezes, but a —killing to the ground freeze— is predicted to occur in a couple of nights.

So we move forward, just like the seasons intend—but Autumn First…

As the hills and dales turn into lovely shades of brilliance and the sky stays achingly blue!

Together in the Wind —-Thursday, October 3, 2019

(From Pinterest)

Off we went, in the chill cool wind of late evening

Where we saw a rainbow playing around on the Grand Mesa foothills

The sunset was lovely

We stood on the ditch bank and just enjoyed being together out on the land.

Back on the Land—Wednesday, October 2, 2019

(From Pinterest—Julianna Creations Etsy)

We started the water on the alfalfa fields yesterday morning

It felt good to be back out on the land, picking up siphon tubes, setting dams, digging out rows

We’ve had a

tremendous amount of wind the last several days, which also brings with it trash from the harvested pinto bean fields

It truly feels good to be walking, lifting, shoveling, moving, smelling the water as it makes its way down the rows in the field, instead of an echo remembered

All of us were rejoicing/singing as we did our work.

The renters left the fields in good shape.  No complaints there.

Still, it’s okay to send round and tell the neighbors, we are Back on the Land!

On Silent Feet in Front of a Game Camera —- Tuesday, October 1, 2019

(From Pinterest)

The game camera captured a unique experience for you and I.  First here is a moth

Then a rather messy spider web

Suddenly the spider started tearing apart the web

She seemed rather disgusted with her work.

Then up she went

The next photo shows it RESTORED!!  Beautiful!

Here is the spider in the daytime

Just so you know.  I took down the camera.  The little panicky feeling I get when I see the web, not to mention the spider itself is not a thrill I want to experience every time I go out to get the camera.

That Delightful Time of Year—-Monday, September 30, 2019

(From Pinterest)

Friday night was Delta High Schools Homecoming Game

(they won).

And, most delightfully for us, Terry was asked to bring the corvette down for the parading of the royalty during half-time of the game.

Another special thing, was a very good friend of ours’ son, was the Homecoming King.

What an honor for us, to be asked to drive around the 2019-2010 King and Queen —what a privilege to be there.
