The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-Friends

After a night of checking out the farm (with Mom)

I got COMPANY!

Sage came!  It the first time I ever got to meet Sage. She is a Black Lab and LOTS OF FUN!

She is also still a puppy—I got tired and had to go lay down.  When I did, Sage’s dad put her back into the pick-up and then they drove off.

I was too sleepy to even bark her good-bye.

Then I got to go see my DOG COUSINS!

Penelope Penny Puppy is also a puppy she is just now a year old!

We played and played and played.

That’s Etta—Etta and I love each other.  We romp and play and frolic and rough house for HOURS.

Then I came home and slept for hours!

(That’s an old photo, but it’s how I looked only without anything green growing close by.)

I was wore out.

I guess I’m getting old.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— My Monday, and Tuesday, and….

Monday Mom and I went to the Groomer’s Shabby Chic spot.  Where MOM LEFT ME!!! FOR A WHOLE HOUR!!

Then she came back…Boy was I ever glad.  (To tell you a secret I like going to the groomer’s I just don’t like Mom leaving me so I act up until she is out the door.  Once I see the door shut. POOF! I’m a different dog.)

Then Mom was back.

I jumped very readily into the car; I always jump in very readily!

Then Mom and I WENT TO TRACTOR SUPPLY!!!

Where I checked out all the corners (again) and got lots of pets, but no treats this time.

On the way home Mom had to stop at the Vet Supply place.  They have cool dogs there!  We all sniffed butts!  You can learn lots of stuff by smelling a butt, let me tell you. Try it sometime, you’ll see. Er, smell..you’ll know.

The next day Mom, Dad, and I finished up gathering ALL the syphon tubes…there were fifty million trillion more…Dad said he was glad that job was done!

This time I stayed in the truck.  Mom didn’t want me rolling in something since I just got my white parts shiny.

THEN —–THE COWS CAME!

Which means we go out and check on them daily…by that Mom and I go for a walk.  Sometimes Dad goes with us and we go for a ride.  It’s really, really, really cold now…6* F (-14 C) Thursday morning;

this means I have to wear a coat when we go on the four-wheeler the air is just too shivery for me.

Thursday night we (Mom, Dad and I) had to go down and get a cow out of the fenced in area where the equines live.  Mom says: “One thing about cows…they always keep things interesting.”

Works for me…if Mom is interested that means I get to go with her and do even more things than normal!

A smiling beagle,

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— The Christmas Tree

GUESS WHAT!

I got to go to TRACTOR SUPPLY!  I got many pets, some treats, one man pointed out I needed to be on a diet…. 😦  I ignored him.

Sniffed all the corners…because you KNOW what is on corners!

Mom told me I could NOT lift a leg…so I didn’t!  🙂

Then we came home…I ride in the back seat in the car … I would help her drive if she let me, but she doesn’t.  So I sit on the back seat and wait until we get to the next stop.

In this case it was home.

Inside I helped Mom put up the CHRISTMAS TREE.  She did all the work and I hung out and watched.

Then when Mom turned on the lights….Mindy Cat decided this works just as good as outside…it’s now her bed.

Even the lights don’t bother her.  And she doesn’t bother anything on the tree.

It was a good day.  A very good day.

Mom says Christmas is her favorite time of the whole year…it’s sparkly you see.

Mom also told me I was to get a bath Monday and I get to go BACK to Tractor Supply afterwards as a treat!

YAY!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— My Week

First off…TALLY CAME!!! Tally always hugs and loves on me THE BEST!

Tally also had a first…Dad announced she was now old enough to drive the four-wheeler BY HERSELF!  She was really proud of that moment. She drove here and there and wherever Dad said she could go!! Not all the time, but when Dad said she could!

One day we all were up at the Upper End when Mom spotted the biggest news at the Upper End (and the Biggest News of the WHOLE week)!

Something killed and ate a HAWK!!!  Feather’s everywhere.

Later on in the afternoon Tally took a bike ride and we went way back up there to check out the feathers, and the news…you KNOW I love gathering the news!

Tally took three feathers — two for her and one for Grammy.  Grammy likes to find feathers she puts them in a special place.  When Mom/Grammy finds a feather she always thinks it’s a gift from the bird to Mom/Grammy.

Anyway, as Tally was gathering feathers she JUMPED back and gave a start I came over to see what happened…  “There’s a foot/claw in there, Boomie” she said. “Whoever ate this hawk forgot to eat one foot.”  I saw Tally shudder.  Humm…wonder why she shuddered.

Then she put the three feathers in her ponytail and we headed back.

The next morning Grandpa and Tally went for a very early four-wheeler ride and they saw a GREAT! BIG! BIRD! Sitting in a tree close to the place where the hawk was dinner.  Grandpa/Dad wasn’t real sure what the bird was, but Tally thought it looked like a Golden Eagle…Grandpa/Dad said that was very possible since we have them around here.

Mom, Tally, Dad, and I saw the buck who is living close by. He lost the battle of the Back Forty to a younger buck (Dad saw them battling); he mopped his way down here and has been sluppling around in a depression ever since.  Mom says he is beautiful but she isn’t sure she likes him hanging around in her yard. (Although, I did see Mom take out two pumpkins, smash them, and pull them open for the buck to eat….just say’n.)

Oh…to be fair Mom did put the pumpkins in the corn field, not on her lawn.

We went to town one day TO MY STORE!!! But Mom wouldn’t let me get out this time…she said Dad was just running in for a minute (more like FOREVER) and we were waiting in the truck.

I pouted…that’s MY STORE!  The only store in the whole wide town I get to go in and smell TOWN things.  Grump, grump!

Then it was time for my little buddie to leave. Sigh…sure was sad to see her drive off.

I took myself to my bed and just laid there forever feeling so sad….

Mom came to me and said she and Dad were going for a walk…do I want to come or continue laying on my bed.

I sat up and looked at her….WALK!

You bet I’m ready for walk!

Well, that’s my week…lots of ups and downs.  But when it comes time for a walk…I AM YOUR DOG!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—HAPPY BIRTHDAY—November 3, 2017

I had a birthday party this week!

Well actually I had and Adoption Day Party this week.

I came to live with Mom, Dad, and

Fuzzy-waiting

Fuzzy in late October.

I was a rescue Beagle!!!

Beagle

I’ve been with Mom and Dad six years!!

Everyone says I’m about 11 years old now.

But I still do all the things I love to do

I keep the farm safe!  I read the news All the Time!

Have great adventures…living on a farm is PERFECT for a Beagle

I play with friends.

And always, always, always (try to) come when Mom calls me!

Anyway…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Boomer Beaglie Brown!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-My Job

Besides going out with Mom

Helping Dad change the water

I have a really big job!

It’s to keep the farm safe!

I have much to do—those crazy raccoons are so brave they walk RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DOG HOUSE!  I know because they always leave a little poop behind.

That’s why I’ve taken to sleeping outside…MY CHOICE!

Mom brings me inside, but … well, you know … there are critters outside!

I chase off the

  • raccoons…they run zipping and playing, with me right behind them
  • I protect the corn!
  • Chase the fox—he is pretty fun to chase
  • Make the squirrels scatter
  • Go for walks with Mom

The deer have been pretty hard on the corn.

You see they eat the silk…

the silk is what feeds the little kernels of corn so they will fatten up and become

BIG FAT JUICY KERNELS of corn

It’s been pretty hard work this year, but so far I’ve been able to do it.

I am feeling well again.

Mom says that is a very good thing!

I agree!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-How IT Now IS

Mom is such an old bore….whenever I go anywhere with her I have to STAY RIGHT BY MOM!!!

We finished weeding the second pinto bean field…and I had to STAY RIGHT BY HER!!!

We had to go clean up a big branch that broke at my sister, Shannon’s yard…and I had to stay “CLOSE BY”!!!

Romeo took a big escape and hoofed it over to our yard…Mom and I took him to the canal pasture, but I had to STAY WITH MOM!

If Mom and Dad walk somewhere I get to walk with them…

I can walk ahead or behind, but I have to walk where MOM CAN SEE ME!

You see there is Rabbit Fever on Grand Mesa—so Mom is afraid it might be down here.  She says I’ve been too sick to get myself exposed to something awful again.  She says fleas carry Rabbit Fever and all animals in the wild get fleas!  (Rabbit fever: An infection in rabbits and other wild rodents caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis that can be transmitted to humans by contact with infected animal tissues or ticks. Also called tularemia.)

When my youngest sister and Linkin came to visit and they walked Shannon’s dog…Mom did NOT let me go with them!

Changing water I have to “SIT! Stay!” on the four-wheeler.

I think I have a

helicopter Mom!

Boomer, Mom’s Beaglie!

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-Mom Pronounced me WELL

I’m back at ‘em.  (Although, Mom says I do sleep much more than I did before I got sick.)

It’s been hot so I rest lots.

Sammy hangs out with me also.  Sometimes he rests where I’m resting, but lately he has taken to sleeping on one of the tractor seats in the coolness of the tractor shed.

I tell Mom I’m just conserving my energy for stuff—

LIKE—

CHASING IN THE FEDEX TRUCK!

But the other day, while Mom and Dad were gone somewhere, I decided it was time to check out the farm.  I figured I wouldn’t go too far.  I would stay close enough I could hear the family car coming down the long lane to house and be back in time.

I had a great fun out there…found out all sorts of news, things that were happening on the farm, you know stuff.

I made it home just before Mom and Dad got back.

Mom was not very happy with me…

Not that I checked out the news, or that I left the farm yard…but the fact I found

SOMETHING TO ROLL IN!!!

Sigh!

She gave me a bath…TWICE!  TWICE!  She took away all the wonderful perfume…dang it!

Boomer.

The Heart of the Night—-Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Last night was beautiful after a day full of heat and humidity

We sat water late.  Very late, as the sun sank orange and blue in the west.

It was way past last light when we got back into the yard

Later, in the darkest hour when the shadow travelers tread the earth —  Boomer and I went for a wee walk-about…Mindy didn’t know we were walking, she was on the hunt

We came upon a beautiful little kit fox hunting by itself, an owl hooting in the willow tree.

The night world trembling with small noises, which seem loud.

The wind picked up a couple of last years old corn leaves; flung them into the air…  a tiny devil twister making the night air swirl…

A wee night walk… shadowed grass, starlit skies, night creatures, plus Boomer and I.

From my heart to your world,

Linda

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-Finally Truly on the Mend

I’m truly on the mend! My pneumonia is going away.  I haven’t coughed in two days so Mom says YAY!  With her fingers crossed!

Most of the time Mom makes me stay on the back of the four-wheeler while she and Dad do the moving of the water.

She makes me sit!  “You Stay, Boomer”, she says.  “Stay.”

So I do.  Even if it’s hot.

She says I have to stay, because I am really not all the way well yet, and there are critters out there who could be sick, which might make me sick again.  She says my immune system is low.

So I sit.

But if I get hot she lets me get down and get a drink, but stay right by her.

Last night it was cool and fresh and lovely.  So lovely Mom and Dad took a ride in the pick-up truck!

I got to go with them!

A ride in the back of the pick-up truck.  I haven’t been in the back forever.

A ride feeling really good—-

Priceless!
