As Evening Fell—Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Storm-Leaving-1Last night as Terry and I were working on the last set of the irrigation last night.  The storm clouds were whipping around us, pushed by the wind—the air so cold it felt like January again.  Storm-Leaving-6

The night was starting to rise around us, bring with it a glaze of cold and a promise of more killing frost.

Strom-Leaving-5

As we loaded up to head up to check the weed catchers and the head gate at the Upper End I notice a starburst of light shimmering over our farm

Storm-Leaving-4

The light was stunning, the sunshine breaking through the western clouds shadowing the farm in a gold that seem enchanted even though already blue shadows were forming along the rises and furrows of the irrigation rows.

Storm-Leaving-3

A rainbow!  A beautiful rainbow…I followed it from one field, to the next, to the next, clear to the Head Gate.

Storm-Leaving-2

A rainbow saying anything is possible.  All is safe!

Scattered-Sun

Heading home I felt a deep contentment with the company we call the sky!

Gifts—Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Corn-and-Sun-1We are all blessed, each and every one of us.  But sometimes…just sometimes life gets in the way.

Fall-1Something that takes us away from looking at the good–something that makes our hearts and minds roil in panic or sadness.

Crazy-MoonStill the gifts of this world keep on shining…

MovingTelling us to be calm.  Given time everything works out.

Rainbow-2Everything!

As my dear departed Momma always said: “Everything works out for the best, if you just let it.”

Pink-in-the-clouds

And it does.  It really does.

Working in Rainbows—-Thursday, October 8, 2015

I’m slow today.  Well, not slow for the day, but slow getting up here to post my blog.  We are still working on the ditches and had a few things to do before Terry could take out the tractor.

(Sometimes I’m early, very early, because…well, I just can’t sleep at night.  The stay awake and toss and turn thing so I get up and write a post to you.)

Terry is doing the tractor work, so I came in to visit a spell with you.

Dirt-1Once more we finished all the dirt for the rest of the year.  🙂  (Where have I heard that before 🙂 )  Terry went over and dumped the last load, while I drove the tractor home, and put the tractor way.

DamThen we worked on digging out the orange dams in the mud ditches.  Always, always a huge job.  We have two more to go, but stopped for spell.  Now that we are ‘elderly’ we have to pace ourselves.  Ten years ago the story would have been much different.

Rainbow-3After supper (yes, we eat early…by 5:00–that is so we still have daylight to work in) we worked on winterizing the ditches.

Rainbow-4

We worked in a sky full of color and rainbows!

Rainbow-2It was wonderful!  I counted two rainbows, then a faint third one!

Rainbow-7The end was right over our house!  How marvelous is that!!!!?

Rainbow-1The sky was stunning!  Because the sun was sitting it turned the air/the clouds, the sky, and us—Pink!

It sure made our work go easier!

Pink-wateAs we worked I started thinking how the year is slowly drifting into winter, but before the winter chill and frigid temperatures, the stunning beauty of fall blooms before our very eyes, the last of summer bursting forth in random elegance and grace, blessing our lives, if we just care to see.

As always your friend, on a western Colorado farm,

The Perfect Gift–Thursday, September 10, 2015

A perfect gift arrived for me…all the way from the Black Forest, near Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Rainbow-from-the-Black-Fore

There in the lovely forest they call home, in the perfect stillness after rain storm, was a gift of hope and love.

Elaine so kindly sent it to me, now I am sharing it with you.

The Magic Light of Mingled Dusk and Sun Fire—Wednesday, August 12, 2015

;Last night we loaded Boomer into the back of the pick-up and headed toward Olathe, Colorado.

The evening ride was a brief enchantment from the daily activities.

124

We were driving toward a storm; rain chutes reflecting the setting suns’ rays.

Then the dark clouds washed over us, pushed along by strong winds

121 As we drew closer to our destination HOPE sprung across the heavens in brilliant 122shades of a massive rainbow.

125

Stopping we put Boomer in the front with us, for giant drops of rains were starting to descend.  (He was one very glad dog to be sitting on my lap, nose stuck out the rolled down window.  A huge doggie smile upon his face.)

The drive home was in the middle of the storm, lightening, thunder and at times rain coming so hard and fast we couldn’t see the road. SunlightThis morning the air is moving gently over us, hinting at the first cool touches of late September.

Linda

The Open Heart of my Life—Thursday, July 16, 2015

More-Pink First light—-one would think that the air is silent but it isn’t, not at all.

The are birds calling, water rushing in the canal–

Hay-field10:00 a.m. There is a rich green smell of the alfalfa field as the day heat up.

The birds and the insects are full voice, by this time, and the air dances with life.

Hay-Stack-MountainClouds scuttled over the top of us, causing the sun to highlight Hay Stack Mountain way at the end of Roubioux Canyon.  When Terry and I were young the old-timers would tell that Hay Stack Mountain was scared to the Ute Indians.  And (if) you were to climb to the top there you would see many Indian artifacts.  Neither Terry nor I have ever been on Hay Stack Mountian.  The road is closed to motorized vehicles, one must either walk or ride a horse.

$ Coming home (from a magnificent meal with our daughter and son-in-law who live in Grand Junction, Colorado) we drove in a rainstorm complete with a rainbow.#

Colorado rainstorms can be abrupt and vigorous—the wind blows in black clouds– then they break dropping water in a rush.

WOWQuickly the storm moved toward the north and the east…leaving us with a sky full of vivid color.

Near and Far—Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Rainbow from Sara

Yesterday was “one of those days”…I felt like I was drug through a knot hole, then stomped on after I was pushed the hole, flung out the window and the left in the thunder and rain.  I was glad when the day ended.

Just plain glad.

This morning is ever so much better!

Checking my email I had this lovely rainbow gift from Count Chocula and Sara I needed this!

A-welcome-Rainbow-1There was also one for me right here, across the field just waiting for me.

I had to remind myself…it all gets better with time.  My mother was so right.  She always said to me:  “Everything always works out for the best, if you just let it”.

And it does.

It’s Wet Here-Again-Sunday, April 26, 2015

It’s wet here. Again! Very wet.  We are still setting and changing water.  It doesn’t stop, just because of weather.  I’m tired of wet. I miss the sun.

Although, all this wet has brought on the green, so I guess I had just better thank my lucky stars.  Water is good.

Last evening, though, in-between down-pours, as we were making the last set of the day

Rainbow-1 The clouds parted, allowing the sun to burst forth,

Rainbow-2Bringing with it the most beautiful of natural wonders

Rainbow-3There we were out on the ditch bank, getting soaked and cold, when the sun broke through the clouds and  gave us rainbows.

Now, really, who could ask for more?  Not I.

The first rainbows of the year and I was where I could see them!

YAY!

A Rainbow Sky—Sunday, October 5, 2014

Sun-2When the storms started to leave our area the sun was underway to waking up the world on the opposite side of us.  The clouds had become ragged and sparse in the West allowing the sun to break free and shine wonderfully upon the land. The East still held the massively dark storm clouds, although they were moving on toward the mountains and the people who lived and worked and played among them.

Rainbow8I was upstairs putting my daily paperwork into a pile and getting ready to turn off the computer when I saw a very faint rainbow filling the east and southern part of our sky! (Close to Olathe)

Rainbow-6

What a joy I thought to myself!  Gazing out the window I watched it fade to nothing.  Turning off the computer I headed downstairs.

Rainbow-5Wait!!!  What do I see around the Eckert, Cedaredge area?

Rainbow-3 WOW!  I grabbed my camera and headed out the front door to stand on the top step

Rainbow-2What an amazing splash of color!

Rainbow-1It was filling the whole basin with brilliant light!  You can even see some little puffs of clouds captured within the prism ray of sunlight!

I stayed an watched until it faded.  What a pleasure to be able to experience the wonder of sunlight on droplets of water!

Today is Sunday.  Today we stop and rest, only doing those things that are necessary.  Tomorrow we will be back to working on the other house and picking back-up the dropped tasks of the week.  The fields are starting to dry enough the dogs and I will be able to go out and start gathering in the siphon tubes, the plastic dams, and the metal tin dams.  The corn is still green, but if the storms stay away it will continue to dry down taking all the moisture out of the stalks, leaves, and the little seeds.  Once it is dry enough we will begin the last harvest (for us) of the season.

Small Break and a Post Full of Rainbows–Tuesday, September 30, 2014

storm-leaving.jpgFor a small amount of time the clouds parted and blue sky appeared.  It was lovely!  The dogs and cats and I danced a jig on the very wet lawn.  It was delightful!

Then the rains came back.  Heavy wet rains complete with thunder.

We are soaked…drowned…extremely wet.

But John North sent me a youtube song about Rainbows and perfect song to go with this wet spell we are having–

A perfectly wonderful wish for a cold wet day.

2014-09-01_17-22-01_74 (2)Then Linda from Alexandria, Louisiana sent this wonderful rainbow
