Chapter Six— The World Has Turned Bonkers

Shhhhhhhhhh

Mouse

Right there

Careful

SHHHHHHH

I put one paw carefully closer to the mouse

SUDDENLY large hoofbeats came dashing down the road right next to where I was hiding in the weeds.

HUGE HOOVES!!

I looked up. Jumped a mile high, and tried to scramble out the way FAST!

It was our resident Buck deer.

Well, ONE of our residents Buck Deer.

“MEOWWWWWWWWW!”  I screamed.

“SLOW DOWN!!! WHAT IS THE BIG HURRY!” I yowled at him.

“Huff, huff, pant, pant; Big storm coming in”, Ranger the Deer gasped between big breaths! “I’m trying to find the rest of the herd so we can high-tail it to the Back Forty and hide in the Black Forrest up there.”

“Big storm?  Aw, come on.  It’s not going to be THAT big you have to run crazy, is it?” I asked skeptically.

Ranger looked at me like I was — well, I was daft or something.  “Hum yes, yes, it is.” He replied.

“I can feel it in my antlers, the velvet is tingling and my horns are vibrating.  That only happens when something huge, big, and well, scary is coming down out of the sky.”

“Really”, I sat down and swished my beautiful big fluffy tail back and forth in the dirt. I’m not feeling anything super big and usually my tail gets all giant and sticks out every which way sending shocks down my spine.”

Ranger and I looked at my tail—I had to turn around but Ranger just walked over and stared at my tail.

Nope not big.  No shocks going down my spine.

“Nothing here on this cat,” I said.

Just then the whole herd of deer pounded into view.

Running hard and fast.

“STORM! RANGER! STORM!  WE GOT TO GET TO THE BLACK FOREST FAST!” They screamed as they flew past.

Ranger gave me a sideways look—“Guess you are on your own, TLC—-See ya later!”  With that he was gone with them.

Shish…the whole world has turned bonkers.  I went back to looking for mice.

Gossamer— Wednesday, September 27, 2023

The Autumn light has arrived.  Tangling all the amazing colors of Orange, red-orange, and purple, with slashes of yellow

Gossamer strands of light flowing over the sky, on the land, against our skin.

Flowing into our hearts and within our souls.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Can Anyone Tell What This Is?— Tuesday, September 27, 2022

Something was causing the outside light to come on, several times a night.

Thinking it was probably a stray cat, or raccoon, or even those nasty coyotes I

put a game camera out by the outside light

I’m thinking this might be a porcupine.  Although, possibly a large rabbit—-bear? (tee hee), mountain lion, Wolverine? ( 🙂 ) or?  🙂

What do you think?

It’s the Small Things — Monday, September 27, 2021

That lift up our hearts

Even the bugs in the air, make for a pretty neat feeling of happy

WOW! A first for me…a Bubble bee in flight

And a darling bunny in a hurry to get away from us

OH! MY! LOOK! AN EAGLE!!!!

Another rather shy one.

A flying grasshopper!  (TLC Cai-Cai loves to catch them)

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh a hawk.

A leaf falling down (the green one) and a bird taking off

Lovely, just lovely!

A little Quail family!

This was just Grand, I thought.

Gathering and leaving, moving through—Good Bye!

Buzzzz

A graceful dance in the sky.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

The Last of Summer Goes—-Sunday, September 27, 2020

In the cooler part of the late Summer/early Autumn day, the last load of hay went up to the North Fork to help feed 2,000 sheep.

Now we only have the corn to harvest.

But that will be on a true autumn day.  Late October, or November. Or even on a winter day in December.  Only time will tell.

The Adventures of Boomer on Friday— Minding the Farm Yard— Friday, September 27, 2019

(From Pinterest)

Hello!  It’s Me, Mindy-Lou, Min-Min, Kit-Cat Brown.  Today is MY day to visit with you!

First off…we have a BIG GIANT BUCK DEER hanging out in the yard. HE IS HUGE!

I make sure I’m not close to him and those very sharp looking hooves.

I also stay away from the hens.  They have sharp beaks and like to stab them at me if I get too close.

I do lots of checking things out around the farm; mostly to find and eat mice.

When I get one, I always take it to Mom and show her.  I get lots of pettings when I do.

I sleep with Mom at night. I curl up right by Mom and get really warm.  Sure, feels good.  Mom pets me off and on during the night. I like that so I purr for Mom.

But whenever I can I try to stay with Dad…

OH!

WAIT!

GOTTA GO!

There goes, Dad!

AHHHHHHH!

Just right! Sitting in the sun with Dad.

Roads—Thursday, September 27, 2018

As we traveled along the, sometimes easy to drive upon roads,

And the sometimes challenging roads my thoughts would turn to the wonder of this most ancient of living things—our earth

The majesty of the noble trees, the huge mountains of slow moving, and slow thinking rocks

The yellow silver dollar-sized leaves falling on us as we moved throughout the forest my heart, mind, and soul was filled with awe

We, each and every one of us, are very blessed to live here on this world we call Earth!

Very blessed.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Only from the Heart—Wednesday, September 27, 2017

“Only from the heart can you touch the sky”–Rumi

This is a song to summer, that time when music is all around us, bird songs, the growing of green things, butterfly wings, and hummingbirds humming in the crystal air

The deep excited feeling of lightness of walking on the earth with bare feet (and on the phone with a best friend 🙂 )

Gradually, over-time, the slow trickle of fall breaks into the movement of summer

Daily I give thanks for being able to follow this amazing dream

Of living, walking, working on the land, where the old gods still watch and wait.

From my world to your heart,

Linda
