The Adventures of Boomer on Friday—-How IT Now IS

Mom is such an old bore….whenever I go anywhere with her I have to STAY RIGHT BY MOM!!!

We finished weeding the second pinto bean field…and I had to STAY RIGHT BY HER!!!

We had to go clean up a big branch that broke at my sister, Shannon’s yard…and I had to stay “CLOSE BY”!!!

Romeo took a big escape and hoofed it over to our yard…Mom and I took him to the canal pasture, but I had to STAY WITH MOM!

If Mom and Dad walk somewhere I get to walk with them…

I can walk ahead or behind, but I have to walk where MOM CAN SEE ME!

You see there is Rabbit Fever on Grand Mesa—so Mom is afraid it might be down here.  She says I’ve been too sick to get myself exposed to something awful again.  She says fleas carry Rabbit Fever and all animals in the wild get fleas!  (Rabbit fever: An infection in rabbits and other wild rodents caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis that can be transmitted to humans by contact with infected animal tissues or ticks. Also called tularemia.)

When my youngest sister and Linkin came to visit and they walked Shannon’s dog…Mom did NOT let me go with them!

Changing water I have to “SIT! Stay!” on the four-wheeler.

I think I have a

helicopter Mom!

The Enchantment in Work—Sunday, May 15, 2016

1

There is tremendous satisfaction from pulling weeds out of the soil.  Backbreaking and endless the chore, but it always gives me a sense of triumph.

2

My yard is a series of rooms..flung around the edges of the lawn. Tearing the roots of thistles, bind-weed, wild grasses single-minded in the sun and the heat. (I love the sun and the heat.  Love it!)

Sundial-Garden-6

I ripped and tore with tremendous concentration–covering 1/2 acre…stopping only at the end of the day.

Evening-sky-6

feeling the soil give up the stubborn root; the foe lying defeated in my wheelbarrow

The farm yard felt calm and empty as I worked.  Pleasant, peaceful, healing!Canas

(some of the above photos were taken previously, as is this one)

I still have the east side of the house to do, but today is Sunday.  And it’s trying to rain. Good-NightI played hookey (just this morning)  from changing water, letting Terry get the early morning sets!  I’ll be back out there at noon and beyond.  Right now I’m taking a wee break!

Canyon-sunsetI love the silence of solitude.

Catch a Falling Star — Thursday, July 23, 2015

HayAfter Terry cut the alfalfa and I stopped painting for the day–meaning after supper, we went out and worked in the pinto bean field.PB1WE FINISHED!!!  The pinto beans are free and clear (for a spell)

feelers.jpgThere will be weeds appearing again, but for Terry and I— we are done.  The pinto beans are starting to shoot the feelers.  These little vines will grab onto to each other and cause the rows to grow shut.

Beautiful The sun had set and we were heading back home, when I noticed something flashing and twinkling in the late evening sky.

FS

Drifting down, down, down we saw it land gently in the upper part of the pinto bean field.  Hopeing it would NOT get away I hurried to the upper end of the pinto bean field, to see a helium balloon shaped like a star resting among the pinto bean rows.

Falling-Star

A fun little gift from the heavens!

Star I nestled the star on the four-wheeler, laying a large rock on it’s string, tucked my weeding knife securing under the bars and brought the falling star home.

The Internet and a Tiny Cool Down —-Monday, July 14, 2014

I had the internet for exactly ONE HOUR yesterday!  Grrrr!  At least I was able to post and let everyone know why I wasn’t visiting your blog or answering comments.  This has been SO irritating.  Of course, I kept checking off and on all day long until I got sick of doing so and just shut everything off.  😦

Cool-down

The towers are still not working correctly.  The Skybeam individual told me there are 17 people on the same wave length (beam?) and every one is having the same issues as I am.  He sounded rather ragged.

Right now I have service…at least I can (maybe) get my blog up and (maybe) get around to visit many of you.  If not, please understand.  I will be BACK!!!  Just like MacArthur….snerk and chuckle.

Sundog

We saw a sun dog yesterday…sun dogs occur anytime of the year, any place in the world, at any time.  They announce that cool down (or much cooler weather) is about to occur.

Lift

I can just guess what and when it will happen….today or tomorrow because Terry is out cutting the alfalfa!  We do NOT need a cool down for several days…a cool down in July (here in the high mountain desert) usually means rain is about to descend.   Although I love a nice rain to cool down hot summer days…we just don’t need rained on alfalfa which is turning into hay!  Please keep your fingers crossed that we don’t get rain on our soon to be hay!! PLEASE!!!   Thank you!

Feelers-2

I got the five acres of pinto beans weeded.  I won’t be able to go out there anymore since the pinto beans are now shooting feelers.  The feelers will reach and stretch until they meet each other causing the rows to grow shut.  All weeding stops from that point on. There will be weeds, but at least I got it cleaned for this amount of time.

Once the rows grow shut the blooms will turn into little pods and the pods filled with beans.  Gradually the beans will swell until they mature.  Once they mature the water will be removed and the plant will dry up.  After that we harvest.  Probably sometime in late September.

Stunning-3

I suppose I had better close this up rather quickly.  I’m feeling lucky to get this much done before we lose connection!
