Summer is Coming to an End — Wednesday, September 16, 2020

Everything is starting to wind down now.

The farmer’s around, who grown onions are now harvesting, the sweet corn harvest is over, and the big ranchers are chopping ensilage/silage, plus the pinto beans and soybean harvest is underway.

The air is different, washing the world in a golden misty light

The morning mist is chilly; the air still.  Although, it does burn off quickly;

Coats required for a spell.

True Summer is now fading like a dream.

I keep putting out food for my cute little creatures—

Not daily, but every once in a while…

I don’t want them to become dependent, but I do want them to go into winter fat!

On a Golden Day Called Sunday, Tuesday, September 15, 2020

The Canadian Geese are back…winging their way over our farm

The days are full of delightful sunshine, gliding the land in gold.

So for a wee treat, we took our daughter, Kimberly, and son-in-law, Cliff, up to Cedaredge, Colorado, to Roxy and Bob Morris’, Red Mountain Ranch Store and Tasting Room where we had frozen apple cider slushies.

Then on the way back, we visited Heart’s Basin, where, LOW and BEHOLD(!), we saw a pelican fishing for its dinner!

What a lovely treat of a day!

In the Bright Shafts of Sun Shine, Monday, September 14, 2020

Boomer and I headed to the Upper End, yesterday,

Just enjoying the smiling sunshine

Enjoying the  clouds forming over the Uncompaghre Plateau

When I ran into those pesky wasps on the way back (again)

I just had to see

If I could

Get a decent

Photo

Or two.

Although, this is blurry (as they all are) the attack in the sky was very dramatic.

That was pretty cool to see!

Update—Sunday, September 13, 2020

The rains have left giving us lovely late Summer days

The corn is drying down

Ever so nicely in the peaceful warmth of September sunshine

But the thing that is more than delightful

Boomer actually asked to go with me on the four-wheeler, something he hasn’t done in two or more weeks.

The earth is full of Late Summer/Early Autumn flowers

And my little Boomer has a smile on his face again

Giving me great joy!

Thank you ever so much for caring about my little beagle.

You are all true friends,

From my heart to your world,

Linda

Sherlock Boomer—-What Mom Doesn’t Know, Chapter Twelve, Friday, September 11, 2020

Chapter Twelve

What Mom doesn’t know.

She really doesn’t know how Beaglie is doing.

Sometimes he seems better, ever so much better.

Then sometimes not.

Last night Mom sat up with Boomie from mid-night to two in the morning.  Then she came back to bed and petted and petted and petted me.

I purred lots for Mom.

Sometimes Mom needs comforting also.

Then in the morning Boomer seemed like his old self.

But getting up he hurt his leg.

Sigh!

So now Boomer is on ¼ dose of Prednisone to help the pain and inflammation in his body.

It’s cold here!

The Canadian Geese are back…Early.

Mom, Boomer, Dad, and I all think we are heading toward a very hard wet winter.

Although, by Saturday we are going to be in the high 80’s again.  But the lows are what count this time of year….in the low 40’s, they say.

I still like to go out and hunt and protect the farmyard from other cats and mice—mice are yummy, pretty damaging. I see it as my ‘job’ to take care of mice.  No one takes care of mice like I do!

Anyway, maybe Boomer will feel like going back on the farm with Mom and Dad.

I guess only time will tell.

So, while Mom sets and pets on Boomer, I sit with Mom and comfort her.

What Mom Doesn’t Know?

Mom says—‘when in comes to Boomer-she just doesn’t know.’

Mindy

P.S.  All the photos of Boomer were taken last week before he got really sick and the weather turned bad.

Although, Our Weather Has Turned —- Thursday, September 10, 2020

Although, the weather has turned

Giving us rain, frozen mix like snow, and weather so cold I had to start a fire in the woodstove

The smoke is gone!

And the Pine Gulch Fire is 90% contained.

Now, hopefully, the other horrendous fires are contained!

Magic —- Wednesday, September 9, 2020

Some of my photos

Deserve their very own post

They are so full of beauty

Drama

And

Poetry.

I just had to give them their own space!

A Chill Seeps Onto the Farm Each and Every Night Now, Tuesday, September 8, 2020

The morning air is cool almost cold now.

Although, we have been warming up into the 100’s (again) in the afternoons.

I’ve been out-and-about taking photos of the wildlife (if I can find them)

Leaving the little Beeglie at home resting.

The smoke is back —thick (see above) and miserable

So without further ado

I will give you my wee collection

Of the critters

Who, like us, are harvesting and

Prepping

For winter

And yes

I do take out treats to feed some of them

But, of course

I don’t feed all of them

The little hummers are leaving us now.

I’m down from 12 feeders to two.

Well, there you have it.

A small collection of fun creatures who share the farm with us.

Yep!

Let It Rain, Let It Snow, Let It Blow—-Monday, September 7, 2020

A load of pine arrived

Just as the sky was turning to crimson.

We only have to head to the mountains for aspen, then we are set for the winter!

Not long now to gather all the firewood

There is a ‘for-real’ chill in the early morning air now.
