Come Sit with Me—Monday, August 20, 2018

Come sit with me…let time slow down…

Let the hummingbirds be the only whirlwind

Enjoy (with me) our now fall days…summer is quickly passing

Morning air is crisp if not clear, and the plants have dew drops like rain upon their leaves

The crows are back a sure sign of soon to be harvesting and I heard two owls in the wee morning light today

Moisture is even in the air —above the smoke-filled clouds

Either a slight rainbow or a sundog…cooler weather is coming our way

Terry has stopped the water on the pinto bean field…in one week he will start pulling the beans.  In two weeks we harvest.

Still for a short while…sit with me

Let the summer day pass into fall with peace and joy

Quietness and comfort as the day winds down

And the little hummingbirds drink their fill

In that hour between day and night

Just before the sun sets.

Linda

At the End of the Day, Is Peace — Thursday, August 9, 2018

The smoke blew away during the day. Leaving us with soft puffy white clouds.

There were two new fires yesterday…one in Gateway,

And one around Delores, Colorado—adding to smoke coming over the Uncompahgre Plateau

Still, there were moments of the bluer sky and puffer white clouds

Still, there was a rightness in our yard and on the farm

The little hummingbirds buzzed around us as we moved to and fro and in and out

Their movements and chatter a melody.

It’s easy to stop all work and just sit still watching them

Letting time and work slip by like water in the canal

The silence left, after the wind dies down, filled with the buzz

Of tiny wings

And chatter as they vie for places along the feeders

Peace

and tranquility, and calm

Experienced while watching those tiny flying jewels called Hummingbirds.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Flying Jewels of Color — Tuesday, July 24, 2018

The hummingbirds are enjoying the feeders —we have a variety of the little flitting and humming birds.

The Refus are back.  They are two weeks early.  It was a surprise to see them and this little Ruby Throated One sitting on the feeder.

They start feeding as soon as the sky turns pearly gray in the morning

And stay busy on the feeders and in my gardens until the last light of night

Then when the moon’s shadows start to fill the open ground they vanish.  Tucked away somewhere resting.  Until day starts again.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Something Sweet and Fragile —- Monday, June 25, 2018

We have this darling little nest out in the tractor shed….where one set of hatchlings have already occurred

There are three nests there, but only one female sitting.  No true leisure for her.

Then letting the hen out of the hen house yesterday morning, I realized I had somehow trapped a hummingbird in with the hen overnight.

Well, that’s not a good thing I thought to myself.

Then later on in the afternoon, while laying fresh bedding down, a hummingbird buzzed my head…in the chicken house!

Non-plussed I wondered…what is going on here?!

Looking around to see what would be the attraction of little hummer to a chicken house

I found…

Another solid little nest, complete with a tiny graceful female hummingbird.

Now the paradox has begun

How to keep the chicken safe from predators at night, allow the hummingbird to feed as long as possible (they feed until dark) and get out early enough (they start feeding at first light) and keep the hen safe.

So at first light, I rush out to the hen house, open the door.  Then at the very tail end of last light, I shut the door, even though the hen has been abed for a little while.

A Secret World of Ancient and Mystic Things—-Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Spring and Summer are such magical times.  They are neither dark and dreary, or so brilliantly colored you forget to see the magic happening right in front of your eyes.

Spring and Summer are somehow a time set aside, a time when spirits roam from daylight until dark, and the old gods walk upon the land in that time of Twilight.

Where all those tiny little creatures perform that mystic ritual of building nests

Of this and that

In secret tiny spaces….waiting and sitting and waiting until the whole world is greeted with the joy of bright little babies.

From my world to your heart,

The Dream Which Holds Us—Thursday, May 31, 2018

A squall blew up for a few seconds/minutes yesterday…dropping light rain on the ground and messing up all the just washed windows….ah, well, they will wash again.

Then the clouds dispersed and a steadily strengthening sun came out…I didn’t see a rainbow.  😦

There were other beautiful things to share—the warm evening air, tenting us with the feeling of silk on our skin

The light and shadows falling on those things in bloom, making welcome colors for our eyes

And that sound of always running water, giving life to crops.

Heaven’s Winds —- Tuesday, May 1, 2018

The wind has been rather rough here of late.  Days of high winds and cold weather.

Still the fragile fruit trees are blooming…bursting forth in masses of blooms in hopes of having fruit.

The wind is armed with cruel arrows of 20 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. bursts trying to shatter and scatter the blooms.

Now, today, it’s cold. Windy and cold.

The little birds sit in pairs trying to keep warm.

Still the work goes on.  Early morning to late at night.  The spring sunlight breathing cold with the wind, but stunning in the sky.

From my world to your heart,

Linda

Sunlight Poured through the Air—Wednesday, October 4, 3017

“Don’t believe in miracles—depend on them.”–Laurence J. Peter

It was warmer yesterday.  A lovely touch of sunlight, soft breezes and sunlit farm light

(that is a Gambols Quail coming toward me.)

We are still having tiny little hummingbirds visiting the feeder.

Sometimes I see only one, some days none at all…

Then just before the big cold rain I saw six.  My heart goes out to them, traveling so late in the year.  I hope they make it somewhere warm soon.

Then while out on a wee walk with Boomer and Mindy the cat…I found

A heart! A perfect sort of magic!

From my world to your heart,

Feathers of Air and Light and Color— Thursday, September 7, 2017

A tiny movement of color

Shining like  stars amid the flowers

A spirit of air, sunshine and wings

Shimmering in the light like sparkling waves on water

A whisper

On little wings

Love,

Linda

Single Notes — Sunday, September 3, 2017

Single notes, following one by one—

Everyday things are happening… moving soft-footed throughout time, from daylight into nighttime shadows

The bird migrations are in full movement now…less and less attend my hummingbird feeders, most of the spring and summer birds have left; leaving only the Barn Swallows.  I dread the day when they rise up in a body of one, dancing all together in the sky…then…gone—leaving behind a stillness a lack of chatter, and a loss, of their busy swooping as they feed.

Our oldest daughter sent to me these two stunning photos she took at her work in Grand Junction, Colorado

In the pause of utter stillness after the storm…Rainbows.

The air is cooling now…everything is starting to beat with single notes; the song of Autumn in the air.
